As we discussed, I do not believe my expectations on cleaning were "very excessive". Having a cleaning fee doesn't mean you can leave the house in that condition. I have been a host for over 20 years, and 99% of my guests have respect for my house and some even go above and beyond to leave the house looking like it needs just a light cleaning. I don't believe these things are excessive: 1) having to clean everything (kitchen appliances, pot covers, grilling tools etc) on the shelves on the kitchen island which were covered in some kind of sticky pink substance that somehow sprayed over everything and also the floor which had to be washed twice. Same substance was also found on the floor of the basement. 2) some other liquid with seeds all over the refrigerator grill, 3) a bar stool from the kitchen left out on the deck and silverware found on deck floor, 4) decks littered with plastic hookah pipes and other trash 5) black ashy substance found in 3 places on upper and lower decks along with burn marks, 6) leaking bags in the garage, where for just a 3 day rental there were 3 garbage pails filled as well as numerous leaking kitchen bags which filled an additional 4 very tall black garbage bags (the leaks were accidental however the amount of garbage was not - the 3 pails would have been sufficient for a normal rental, however your outside guests contributed to this enormous amount of trash). All of this is why I requested an additional $100 above the cleaning fee which I thank you for paying.

David, thank you for your nice review. Would definitely welcome you and your family back again. Yes, the bedrooms, while not directly opening into the living room, are off small hallways from the living room. I often ask my guests to lower the volume of both the TV and their voices if retiring early. White noise machines or phone apps definitely help - I used one when I had my extended family with little kids out this past June. LOL.

RESPONSE: I will say she did leave the house in very good order and condition and I am sorry she felt that I was too intrusive. As is common, there are always two sides to a story. What started out as a great relationship between the two of us in the beginning, with me complimenting her on her calm and positivity when several things went wrong for her in using the Vrbo website, ultimately deteriorated in the end after she left the house with her family and all of her and their belongings, mid-rental, with no clear communication from her on what had transpired until I inquired. I would have appreciated more upfront communication from her about her plans and who would be arriving and staying at my house, particularly young children, after she left AND SHE WAS NOT THERE. Some of these people were not listed as a guest of hers in my agreement. I felt uncomfortable, as she was the one who booked the accommodation and signed an agreement. By the way, agreements are not uncommon for properties on the rental platforms and through real estate agents. Doorbell cameras are very common. She kept claiming she would be returning (from the D.C. area!) until it was about two days from her checkout. She never did. A few other things I would like to address: **I did not DEMAND his phone number as she alleges, but in her text to me she OFFERED to put me in touch with him. And yes I did text him to go over one or two things they should be aware of about the house and what to do upon check out. She also texted me that another friend with her two young children were also coming out, though they were not on the original list of people. I asked for her friend’s number as well. **The post-it notes she refers to were meant to be helpful – a broken shade missing a bracket that might fall on you if yanked too hard, a closet door where it was not obvious it was locked, and a brand new stove where I provided some operating and cleaning instructions. **I probably should not have texted that I wish I had known that no one would be at the house over the weekend. She reminded me that I shouldn’t feel so bad since I had collected a certain amount of money (that was much greater than what she had paid for the two nights). I responded that I saw her point, but later realized that her number was grossly inflated. So, I texted back with the correct amount. I encourage potential guests to read the other 88 reviews, all of which are 10/10 except for a few that are 8/10. If I was anything like she described, I would have heard it from someone by now.
