We spent 4 weeks there. the small house is very cozy, top clean and well maintained. the location in the narrow alley is top to reach the center within a few minutes walking. restaurants and grocery store just next to the house. the host Rieko is very nice and always available for help or any needs. this house is just perfect for short stays. in our case - beeing there so long - we missed much a place to sit outside or even just a cosy place where you can look out of the windows. bus as all windows in the living room are blinded - it feels a bit locked up.

This machiya is undoubtedly a hidden treasure in Kyoto. It perfectly marries the charm of a traditional Japanese house with the convenience of modern amenities. The residence boasts a contemporary shower, a state-of-the-art Japanese toilet, and all the kitchen appliences you need, at least for cooking a simple meal or preparing breakfast. Beyond the living space, a beautiful Japanese garden unfolds before your eyes as viewed from the tea room. Here, you have exclusive access to your own private onsen. The round bathtub can be effortlessly filled with just a press of a button. Situated on a tranquil side street yet conveniently close to a bus station and other public transportation, the machiya offers the best of both worlds. Convenience stores, cafes, and restaurants are all within a five-minute walk. Moreover, some of the most iconic sights of Kyoto are merely a stone's throw away, enabling you to spend days exploring the city on foot, starting right from your doorstep. The hosts, Eri and Koji, epitomize thoughtfulness and kindness. They go above and beyond to ensure your stay is as enjoyable as possible, assisting with restaurant reservations and offering recommendations for places to visit. Eri graciously welcomed us upon arrival and provided a comprehensive overview of the residence and its amenities. Our heartfelt thanks to Eri and Koji for an unforgettable experience.

Wir haben uns hier vom ersten Moment an sehr wohl und willkommen gefühlt. Das Haus ist so liebevoll und hochwertig restauriert. Hier wurde an alles gedacht - bis hin zu Kleinigkeiten wie Regenschirmen in ausreichender Anzahl. Es war tadellos sauber und roch herrlich nach Holz und Tatamis. Vor allem ist Naoko eine wirklich nette, herzliche und hilfsbereite Gastgeberin. Schon vor der Reise gab es viele hilfreiche Tipps zur Planung und auch im Haus findet man noch jede Menge Informationen. Es waren wunderschöne Tage in der Machiya Momiji und wir hoffen sehr, irgendwann wieder zu kommen! Japan hat unser Herz gewonnen. Thank you very much, Naoko. It was wonderful!
