YOUR VACATION IS OFF TO THE RIGHT START WITH SHEETS & TOWELS PROVIDED AND THE BEDS MADE!
This amazing, six-bedroom, in-town property is right on Duck Creek. Although you may not want to leave the comfort of this beautiful home and its incredible views, you'll love the quick proximity to the Wellfleet Town Pier, Mayo Beach and Wellfleet's bustling Main Street. At over 3,800 sq. ft., there is plenty of room for separate activities or for all to come together for some vacation fun.
First Floor
The first floor is made for family fun! This open area--part family room, part entertainment center--has a sectional sofa, lounge chair and an 85" flat screen TV with cable. In addition to the foosball table, pool table and ping pong table, there are plenty of games and books. Just off the family room is a second office space with a beverage fridge and a wonderful sun room with chairs and gorgeous views of Duck Creek. There is also a half bathroom off the sun room.
Second Floor
The second floor is accessed by two separate staircases at either side of the front of the house. One staircase opens to the living room, the other to the back hall. The living room is open and bright with comfortable seating and a flat screen TV with cable. Around the corner is the dining area with large dining table and kitchen. The kitchen, dining area and living room all share amazing and ever changing views of Duck Creek and the harbor. A door from the dining area leads to the balcony deck. The well-equipped kitchen has granite counter tops, a large center island, gas cooktop, wall oven, dishwasher, microwave and drip coffeemaker--a foodie's delight.
Doors from both the living room and kitchen lead to the back hall. Off the back hall there is a stacked washer/dryer (one of two in the house), a bedroom with two bunk beds (four twins), a work nook with desk and beverage fridge and a bathroom with a shower.
Third Floor
Access the third floor via two separate staircases--one from the second floor back hall, the other from the second floor living room. Both staircases lead to an open and bright foyer. There are four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a laundry room. All of the four bedrooms have queen beds, nightstands with UBS charging capabilities and skylights. One of the bathrooms has a shower and the other has a tub/shower. The laundry has a stacked washer and dryer and sink.
The Deck
The main house second floor deck is large and nicely outfitted with a new Polywood furniture (NEW PHOTOS COMING SOON!), a gas grill and a retractable awning for those super sunny days. Relax and unwind on the deck while enjoying marvelous Duck Creek views and sunsets. Access to the deck from the dining area and from the yard via an exterior staircase. Unenclosed rinsing station at the back of the house below the deck.
The Studio
The separate studio has a sitting area with loveseat, a kitchenette with sink, small refrigerator and coffeemaker. There is a first floor bathroom with a shower. An open staircase leads to the open loft bedroom with full (double) bed. There is a small deck off the studio with an outdoor table and chairs. NOTE: Internet access/WIFI is not available at the studio.
Air Conditioning
There are window air conditioning units in the family room and office space on the first floor, in the living room and bunk bedroom on the second floor, in each of the bedrooms on the third floor and on the first floor of the studio cottage.
The Yard
The property has a large, lovely yard looking out over Duck Creek.
The History
The main house has an eclectic history that began in the early 1800s in Truro as a meeting house with symmetrical separate staircases for men and women. Moved to Wellfleet in the mid 1800s, the building has been a ship chandlery, an oyster house, a roller rink (the original oak roller skating floor is still in the family room) and a machine shop run by Joe Warner, a prolific inventor who developed hydraulic steering for ships and built steam automobiles in the ground floor. From 1970 to 2007, the building was the home of Wellfleet Pottery, a ceramic design and manufacturing studio and gallery, owned and operated by Trevor and Kathleen Glucksman. Those of you who have returned to Wellfleet year after year likely own a piece of Wellfleet Pottery or two. In 2008 the gallery and manufacturing space was redeveloped into a family room/entertainment space with sun room.
Wellfleet
Only a 7-min walk/1-min bike ride to Mayo Beach for swimming, sunbathing, beachcombing and kayaking!
Walk to Wellfleet Harbor (less than 1,000 feet to the town pier, 0.3 mi to Mayo Beach/Baker Field) or Wellfleet Center (less than 0.4 mi to Wellfleet Marketplace). Less than 0.2 mi to Mac's Shack for a fantastically fresh seafood dinner! Swimming, sunbathing and beachcombing at Mayo Beach. Summer shows, playground, tennis courts and pickleball at Baker Field. Check out Main Street's amazing galleries, shops, the beloved Wellfleet Public Library, the Wellfleet Historical Society and the weekly farmers market.
Short drive to all the best of Wellfleet including restaurants, galleries, fresh water ponds, ocean beaches, the Cape Cod Rail Trail, golf and Cape Cod National Seashore beaches, trails and sites. Twenty-five minute drive to Provincetown for more amazing restaurants, galleries, shops and night clubs.
++ As with many historic homes, some staircases have steep steps and narrow treads.
+ + + + + + + + FROM THE GUEST BOOK (reviews from non-VRBO guests!) + + + + + + + +
- Location, space, game room, two TVs, nice kitchen, view. Thank you for including beach chairs, coolers, firepit, etc. - JR, 08/24
- The big house, and the small backhouse, were perfect for us, an extended family of 11, ranging in age from 2 1/2 to 76. We were walking distance to the ocean and great restaurants, and a short drive to just about everything else. The house is great for children, adolescents, and adults alike--there's the fabulous game room, quiet work/study places, and large gathering spaces. And the kitchen is REALLY well-equipped. We almost always made a huge dinner and ate communally, either sitting at the large table off the kitchen or at the large table on the deck. - JW, 07/24
- Appointments, furnishings, finishes are first class. Floor layout for large groups is very good. - RS, 07/24
- What you liked best about this rental: Game room, living room, kitchen, AC & bathrooms. - AM. 07/24
