Aumoana | Stay Waiheke
Summary:
A home of glass and light above Onetangi, Aumoana blends luxury and ease, long lunches, ocean air, and magical evenings by the pool.
The Space:
From the moment you arrive, Aumoana by Stay Waiheke feels easy, It’s a house made for people, for gathering, relaxing, and enjoying the day together without ever needing to plan.
The open kitchen and dining space are the heart of it all, morning coffee in bare feet, pancakes on the go, and long lunches that stretch into afternoon swims. The living areas flow out to the pool, the spa, and that endless sea view, so you’re never far from the water or the sound of laughter. On cooler days, the large indoor fireplace becomes the centrepiece.
With room to sleep up to twelve guests, Aumoana has been designed for comfort and calm at every turn. Two super-king suites open to the sea and catch the first light of morning, the kind of rooms that make you want to stay in bed just a little longer. The king and queen bedrooms are softly lit and quiet, perfect for slow mornings or early nights after a day in the sun. And the bunk room, with its four king singles, TV, and private lounge, gives younger guests their own retreat, a place for movies, giggles, and letting the grown-ups enjoy a well-earned sleep-in.
There’s space for everyone, morning workouts in the private gym, lazy afternoons by the pool, and dinners that turn into slow evenings under the stars.

The Neighborhood:
If you ever feel like leaving Aumoana, it’s a beautiful 10-minute walk down to Onetangi Beach. Once you’re down there, grab a coffee from Charlie Farley’s, a local favourite, and wander barefoot along the golden sand of Millionaire’s Mile. It’s the kind of walk that makes you slow down without even trying.
By midday, the island shifts into that slow, sun-warmed rhythm that pairs perfectly with long lunches among the vines. Just a few minutes from Aumoana, Tantalus Estate, Stonyridge, and Obsidian serve exceptional wine and food in settings that feel as relaxed as they are refined. At Tantalus, you can even arrive by helicopter, its private landing pad welcoming guests who prefer to make an entrance. Nearby, Casita Miro offers a Mediterranean touch with shared plates and sea views that stretch forever. Every vineyard here celebrates the same thing: good food, great wine, and the simple pleasure of staying a little longer than planned.
Stop in at The Heke for craft beer or whisky under the trees, or wander back down to Three Seven Two where dinner is served to the sound of waves just metres away. Or for something truly special, take a table at Ki Māha, high-end beachside dining that blends seafood, style, and the sea right outside its doors.
Getting Around:
From Aumoana, the island unfolds easily in every direction. The local bus runs nearby along Seaview Road, linking Onetangi Beach, Oneroa, Palm Beach, and the ferry terminal. There’s parking at the property if you prefer to drive, and most of Waiheke’s highlights, the vineyards, restaurants, and beaches, are within a short distance.
The bus routes on Waiheke are excellent, with stops right outside many of the island’s top vineyards, including Tantalus, Stonyridge, and Te Motu. It’s what most visitors choose to do, jump on the bus, meet new people, and make a few friends along the way. It’s simple, social, and the easiest way to move between tastings, beaches, and long lunches without worrying about driving.
However you travel, every route here seems to come with a sea view, and that easy island feeling that makes Waiheke so unforgettable.
Other Things to Note:
Please note that Aumoana sits on an elevated coastal site with stairs between levels and an unfenced pool, and is therefore not suitable for young children.
The property runs on rainwater, and guests are asked to use it mindfully.
Bookings are accepted on request only, and confirmation will be provided by the Stay Waiheke team.

The Stay Waiheke team are locals who love this island and are always happy to help. We’re available seven days a week from 8:30 am to 5 pm, and for emergencies only, there’s an after-hours number so you’re always covered.
