Take a refreshing dip at Blue Pool swimming hole, spend time at Lake Glenmaggie—with space to bring your own boat or jet ski (ample parking on site)—or set out on nearby bush trails, winery visits, and country town adventures.
Your stay also includes thoughtful touches like a photo wall for memories, a picnic basket and rain jackets for outings, and board games for laid-back nights in. A curated guest book—online and in print—guides you to Central Gippsland’s best itineraries, eateries, and hidden gems.
Gumnut Cottage Gippsland isn’t just accommodation—it’s an invitation to slow down, reconnect, and embrace the beauty of the region. Exclusively for couples and solo travellers over 21, it’s the perfect place to unwind and recharge.
Guest Access:
Gumnut Cottage Gippsland is set on 2.5 picturesque acres, offering a magical ‘Off-Grid Tiny Aussie Homestead’ experience. Wander through lush surrounds with a growing food forest of annuals, perennials, and over fifty fruit trees, framed by stunning mountain, forest and valley views. As part of daily life on a working acreage, we occasionally mow with a ride-on and tend to the plants and animals, always mindful of timing so you can relax and enjoy your stay.
Meet our friendly residents—adorable Babydoll sheep, playful pygmy goats, and cherished heritage hens—who bring a gentle rhythm of life to the property. Our residence is tucked away at the rear, and although there are a few neighbouring homes, you’ll have your own carport and simple self check-in via lockbox.
The indoor fireplace (May–September) and outdoor fire pit (May–July, weather permitting) add a warm glow to your evenings. Each can be arranged for a non-refundable $25 fee, covering seasoned hardwood, kindling, and setup. For safety, only firewood supplied by us may be used—self-supplied firewood, outdoor cooking, or BBQs are not permitted.
At Gumnut Cottage, you’re not just a guest—you’re stepping into a sanctuary designed for rest, rejuvenation, and connection with nature.
The Neighborhood:
Stunning panoramic mountain and valley views on edge of state forest, twelve minutes into the local township of Heyfield (with supermarket, pub, cafes, parks etc).
Getting Around:
Ample parking.
Own car required to get around as this is a rural country location.
Other Things to Note:
Please note that we can only welcome guests over the age of 21 years.
The indoor fireplace is available for use between May and September. If you’d like to enjoy it during your stay, please let us know at the time of booking. A non-refundable $25 fee applies, which includes fire preparation, approx 4hrs of indoor burning time (kindling, firewood, and fire starters). Guests need to pls familiarise themselves with safe indoor fireplace use and accept full liability for any damage /injury incurred in doing so. The fireplace will be very hot whilst in use and nothing can be placed on top of it (or it will burn / melt).
Our outdoor fire pit is available for use between June and August subject to wind / weather on the day.
For safety reasons, only seasoned hardwood as supplied by us may be used. Use of the fireplace or any self-supplied firewood without prior arrangement is not permitted, as a past incident prompted this policy. Thank you for your understanding and helping us keep the space safe and cosy.
Bringing your own fire pit / outdoor cooking equipment / BBQ / lighting fire is strictly prohibited due to safety / fire risk. Guests who breach these terms will regretfully need to be asked to leave immediately and their booking will be cancelled without refund. We appreciate your understanding in helping us keep our guests, neighbours and surrounding area safe!
Thanks 😊

Über den Gastgeber
Zu Gast bei Gumnut Cottage Gippsland
Hi! I'm Mel - A passionate host and tiny homesteader. I'm currently studying horticulture to learn how to best regenerate our little patch of paradise. I love working on our farm and being out and about with the animals and in our free range food forest area. Its such fun to share our property with guests (particularly the views!). We strive to provide magical, unique and highly memorable experiences for our guests that we hope last a lifetime!
Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
Our area is very relaxing, yet there is so much to immerse yourself in if you want to get out and explore. I love our local pub (The Railway Hotel) and our friendly nearby town, Heyfield.
Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
We have created a Tiny Homestead with a view to becoming almost fully self-sufficient in coming years. We have planted many perennial edible plants; over 80 fruit trees including edible hedges comprising blueberries and fejoas. We love to share our learnings with our guests if they would like to learn more about what we are doing and why. We are exploring permaculture and continuously learning as we go - always implementing new ideas and projects.
