Gumnut Cottage Gippsland: A Hamptons-Style Haven for Couples...
Step into the cosy charm of Gumnut Cottage Gippsland, a 26m² Hamptons-style eco-house blending sustainability with luxury. The snug king-sized bed, with just 45cm around the edges, offers a cosy retreat; but may not suit all guests.
Primarily off-grid, the cottage includes back-up power for added comfort. Thoughtfully designed, it proves sustainable living can be both elegant and chic.
Inside, the pitched ceilings with exposed beams create an airy elegance, while every detail is crafted for your comfort. Sink into the snug king-sized bed, draped in luxe linens, with the bedroom offering a cocoon of calm. The ensuite invites relaxation, featuring an extra large shower with a waterfall head, waffle weave bathrobes, and goat milk soap—complemented by slippers for you to take home.
Whether you’re planning a romantic dinner on the 30m² deck or a cosy movie night with smart TVs in both the bedroom and living room (Stan, Netflix, YouTube, Free to Air TV), you’ll feel at home. For outdoor enthusiasts, your private festoon-lit area is perfect for evening games, picnics with our provided essentials, or capturing memories at the photo wall.
A curated guest book, available online and in print, highlights local itineraries, eateries, and hidden gems to make your getaway truly memorable. With thoughtful touches like a picnic basket, rain jackets, and board games, we’ve got you covered for every weather.
Gumnut Cottage Gippsland isn’t just a place to stay—it’s an experience of intimacy, relaxation, and a deeper connection with the beauty of Gippsland. Exclusively for couples and solo travellers over 21, it’s your perfect escape to unwind, recharge, and embrace a slower pace of life.
Guest Access:
Gumnut Cottage Gippsland is nestled on a picturesque 2.5-acre property; offering exclusive access to a magical 'Tiny Aussie Homestead' experience. Wander through lush surrounds featuring a burgeoning free-range food forest brimming with annual and perennial edible plants, over fifty fruit trees, and charming heritage touches.
Meet the friendly residents—adorable Babydoll sheep, playful pygmy goats, and cherished heritage hens—who add a touch of life and warmth to your stay. Whether you’re exploring the grounds, picking fruit, or simply soaking in the serenity, this space is yours to enjoy.
Privacy is a priority here. With our part-time residence located at the far end of the property, you’ll feel a world away, often having the entire property to yourself. Self check-in via a lockbox ensures a seamless arrival and the freedom to unwind on your own terms.
At Gumnut Cottage, you’re not just a guest—you’re stepping into a peaceful sanctuary designed for rest, rejuvenation, and connection with nature.
The Neighborhood:
Stunning panoramic mountain and valley views on edge of state forest, twelve minutes into the local township of Heyfield (with supermarket, pub, cafes, parks etc).
Getting Around:
Ample parking.
Own car required to get around as this is a rural country location.
Other Things to Note:
Seasonal Fireplace Use:
During the cooler months (May to mid-September), your indoor fireplace is fully stocked and ready to enjoy, with enough free firewood for 2–3 hours of cosy warmth. Due to local fire restrictions, fireplaces are unavailable during warmer months.
The Local Area:
Nestled in Central Gippsland, often called the "Middle of Everywhere," Gumnut Cottage is perfectly positioned for endless adventures. Enjoy Lake Glenmaggie’s picturesque lakeside setting, perfect for picnics, walking, swimming, fishing, boating, and water sports. Visiting in warmer months? Bring your bathers, boat, or jet ski—there’s plenty of parking on site.
Just 300m away, the Victorian High Country offers hiking and 4WD trails. Indulge in dining and wine tasting at the nearby Tinamba Hotel and Blue Gables Vineyard. Explore charming towns like Heyfield, Maffra, and Cowwarr, or take memorable day trips to Licola and Walhalla, where you’ll find gold mines, ghost tours, a historic scenic railway, and famous pub lunches.
Essentials and Convenience:
Heyfield, just 11 minutes away, provides all your essentials with an IGA supermarket, chemist, general store, fuel, cafes, and the historic Railway Hotel for hearty pub meals. Please note that taxis and Ubers are not readily available in this area, so your own transport is essential.
Safety and Cleanliness:
Our property and linens are professionally cleaned to the highest standards by a local team. For added peace of mind, we have two external security cameras to monitor our animals when we’re not on-site.
Fire Restrictions:
Fire restrictions may apply during summer and early autumn, affecting the use of the fireplace and outdoor fire pit. Please reach out to confirm if this impacts your stay.
At Gumnut Cottage Gippsland, every detail is crafted for your comfort, adventure, and relaxation. Experience the best of Central Gippsland—a tranquil retreat in the heart of nature.
Interaction with Guests:
Your comfort and enjoyment are our top priorities. We’re available 24/7 to assist with any questions or needs before, during, or after your stay. Whether it’s recommendations for local experiences, help with the property, or just a friendly chat, we’re only a phone call away.

Über den Gastgeber
Zu Gast bei Gumnut Cottage Gippsland

Hi! I'm Mel - A passionate host and tiny homesteader. I'm currently studying horticulture to learn how to best regenerate our little patch of paradise. I love working on our farm and being out and about with the animals and in our free range food forest area. Its such fun to share our property with guests (particularly the views!). We strive to provide magical, unique and highly memorable experiences for our guests that we hope last a lifetime!
Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
Our area is very relaxing, yet there is so much to immerse yourself in if you want to get out and explore. I love our local pub (The Railway Hotel) and our friendly nearby town, Heyfield.
Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
We have created a Tiny Homestead with a view to becoming almost fully self-sufficient in coming years. We have planted many perennial edible plants; over 80 fruit trees including edible hedges comprising blueberries and fejoas. We love to share our learnings with our guests if they would like to learn more about what we are doing and why. We are exploring permaculture and continuously learning as we go - always implementing new ideas and projects.
