Welcome to The Outlook! The ultimate holiday homes NZ escape with the true essence of the name of Aotearoa, veiled in white clouds on early winter mornings, whereas the summer gives the full 19 hours of breathtaking landscape and tranquillity at Charteris Bay.
Explore the sea to catch a sight of dolphins, or go fishing for your early morning meal. It's a great, cozy place to start your explorations of Canterbury.
The Space:
The Outlook by Tiny Away is one of the best tiny house rentals in Canterbury Region - South Island New Zealand, nestled beneath a classic stile-stilt tower, surrounded by lush bushland and birdlife, and with a frontal view of the sea entrance to Lyttelton Harbour.
Church Bay, Governors Bay, Diamond Harbour Ferry, Christchurch Riverside Market, and Ilam Gardens are just a few of the nearby attractions.
It's a cozy 139 square-feet tiny home with easy access to water, split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities. These amenities include an eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste-holding tank, hand basin, and shower (gas heated for hot showers) for you to use.

Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the tiny home and its surroundings, including our house deck and garden, except perhaps other nearby residences. We strongly advise guests not to cross or trespass on the property of other nearby residents.
There are over 20 walking trails within walking distance of the tiny house, but if you're looking for a challenge, we have some walks that take more than 4 hours to complete.

The Outlook by Tiny Away sits in the quiet suburbs of Charteris Bay, Canterbury - South Island New Zealand. A small suburb that's just a 45 minute drive away from Christchurch and situated between Governors Bay and Diamond Harbour Ferry, around Church Bay, known for its walking trails, tranquil neighborhoods, and friendly locals.
A rural band and one of the best tiny house rentals with rich history, from old volcanoes to fascinating nature attractions like walking trails with lush celery trees, birdlife, and a curious walk through formations of trapped lava walls close to town.
Our local recommendations:
- Halswell Quarry offers walking, biking, orienteering, picnicking, and sister city gardens.
- The Sign of the Bellbird is a tourist site in Christchurch that offers panoramic mountain and sea views.
- Orton Bradley Park is a forest park with campsites, picnic areas, walking trails, and a nearby cafe in the area.
- Riverside Market Christchurch is a fresh farmers' market with numerous boutiques in the area, just 38 minutes away from the tiny house.
- Port Hills in Christchurch is a beautiful range of hills in Canterbury that are ideal for bushwalking, running, and mountain biking trails of all skill levels.
Getting Around:
By car:
- We can arrange a pick up and drop off at the guest's expense, but if host is available then no charge. If you're interested, please contact your land host 24 hrs in advance to make arrangements.
By public transport:
- From Lytelton, you can take a ferry or bus. But, we recommend guests to travel by private vehicle for easy access to and from the property and other nearby attractions.
Other Things to Note:
- Firewood costs $10 per pail
- No smoking allowed on the property
- Pets should be kept on a leash at all times
- No unregistered guests or visitors are allowed
- Mobile reception is good with Vodafone, 2degrees, and Spark
- Please note that this is a PET-FRIENDLY property, and pet policies will be sent prior to arrival
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge
Important note:
- Keep in mind that BBQ grills and outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban
- For stays of 5 nights or more (or for bookings of 5 nights or more), an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the cassette toilet and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
