You’ll love this oceanfront palace in Rockaway Beach on so many levels—and it has so many levels that you’ll love its versatile nature! Originally a classic beach cottage, this home has evolved into a fantastic, modern home that takes full advantage of its location, a stone’s throw to the beach. The magical upper level holds a spacious great room with a wall of windows to the sea. Not only does it sport a leather sectional circling an entertainment bay with a 75” TV—it also has an alcove with seating encircled with windows facing the ocean, perfect for whale-spotting or enjoying the nightly sunset show. You’ll enjoy meals with an ocean view from the dining table or a marble breakfast bar. And the kitchen? Beautifully updated and fit for a chef, with stainless steel appliances, a stainless farmhouse sink, a wine-chiller and so much more. Once it’s time to retreat for the day, five bedrooms give your guests private spaces to relax. Three bedrooms, one a spacious ocean-view master suite including a gorgeous, updated bath with a soaking tub and double-headed walk-in shower, provide luxury and beauty. The entry-level bedrooms share a bath and a bonus room with sofas, sink, refrigerator and a vintage pinball machine—it’s the perfect place for the kids to retreat and have their own space. Outside you’ll enjoy the sound of surf and spectacular ocean views from the deck, with a gas grill and a picnic table down on the fenced-in sand. It’s a brief walk through dune grass to seven miles of level sand, views of Twin Rocks and the endless sky and ocean. Two of the bedrooms had not been remodeled and it was very hard to keep a comfortable temperature with the electric heaters in those rooms. Also one of the beds was extremely uncomfortable and old. The rest of the house was amazing! Beach access and the view from the house couldn’t have been better!

Wonderful stay

The house is huge and the perfect location. Access to the beach was easy and direct. The beds were comfy and my kids lpved the foosball table. We would stay here again in a heartbeat! .

Family weekend at the beach

We stayed with some extended family from out of town and had a wonderful time. The renovated portion of the house is beautiful and easily slept the group of us. Easy beach access and a short walk to shops and restaurants. Would definitely stay here again!

Stunning view!

The view from the house was stunning! There was plenty of room for our group and the beach access was so easy! The kitchen was well appointed and everything was very comfortable. We would absolutely come back.

Comfortable home with a beautiful view

We absolutely loved this home. Great view, easy beach access, enclosed yard. One thing in the online listing that didn’t seem to be described well is that the back half of the home is original and unimproved; the front is well updated. It was a bit of a surprise when we walked in but really fell in the love with the house.

Perfect for our gathering

We loved our stay at Sand Castle. The home was the perfect setup for our family. The views and beach were beautiful. My family asked is I’d already booked another stay for next year. The kitchen was well stock. I wish there was a way to recycle but that may not be available in that community.

Great Space and Location

Outstanding ocean view. Short walk to the beach, makes it great for the kids and adults! The fenced in area made for a wonderful play place for the young ones with a full view from the balcony above. Huge kitchen made cooking easy. Spacious dining table great for meals and games. Well stocked with dishes and utensils. During our stay when I texted questions, Sam promptly responded. Furnishings in the upstairs great room are nearing end of life. Furnishings in the original wing of the house could use an update. We really enjoyed our family vacation!

Ocean views

This house was perfect for our family. A lot of space and comfortable beds. The view could not be any better. Fenced yard for dogs with private path to the beach. The house could be a problem for people with mobility issues- there are a lot of stairs. But the climb up is well worth the amazing view.

Great location!

The home has a great location, with a fenced yard for children and dogs. The location is a short walk to downtown shopping, and immediate beach access just past the fence gate. Views from the living space and both balconies were unending. We wish that we had known about the abundance of stairs inside the home prior to booking, but otherwise it was well represented by the description. Having hot water from the outdoor hose was loved by all to rinse off from the sandy salty beach.

Lovely home, great location

Great property. Old "cabin" feel in the front and newly renovated in the back. Comfortable furniture and well stocked kitchen. If your dog is smarter than ours, you may want to bring a lead for the backyard. Since it's only sand, a pup who figured out digging under the fence would have a short hop to the ocean! Luckily, our dog is an idiot and just waited for us to open the gate. :)

Location, location, location

The location will not disappoint, nor will the view. There were a few items that I communicated to the property manager regarding cleanliness and working condition (specifically ice maker didn't work), but not until after we left. I'm sure given the opportunity to fix, they would have. Oh and the trash cans in the kitchen didn't have lids. Thankfully my family member had a very well behaved dog so it was not an issue. If I had been traveling with mine, that would have been a constant distraction to deal with. Might suggest for a dog friendly property, they have lids on those cans.

Family Trip

Great property, lots of space! Check-in was delayed 3 hours due to "housekeeping emergency." This text message was received 1 hour prior to our check-in time. Meredith Lodging dealt with a difficult situation ineffectively. They promised "dinner" the night of arrival, but required I provide a receipt. I provided the receipt prior to departing 6 August, but have yet to receive reimbursement. My request for information about the reimbursement, or any credit, have gone unanswered. Great house (though the kitchen definitely needs more coffee cups and flatware!), but your mileage definitely may vary with Meredith Lodging.

The code to the door did not work. Wecalled the contact number and got a recording. The code worked on the beachside door. The outside was not lighted weĺll and the ground was uneven. There were steps outside with no handrails, and there were steep steps inside with no handrails and poor lighting. There were more steps inside with no, handrails and poor lighting.. we all slowly up and down the stairs the whole time.The rugs on both bathroom floors were worn out and very slippery.One of our guests fell by sliding on the rug. There were light bulbs out. The comforter in our bedroom had about a ten inch long tear in it that obviously had been there a while. The material was frayed all around it. Two of our bath towels had holes in them and white stains on them. There was a small, inexpensive luggage rack in our bedroom but it was broken.. For the amount of money we paid, we were disappointed.This did not compare to other vrbo rentals we had stayed in.

The property was great for large groups and had lovely ocean views and beach access. However, on the day of check in I was notified that there was a snafu with the cleaning team and check in was delayed significantly. Guests were already en route so I was advised to have dinner out and would be compensated. The cleaners did not end up coming the first night but we were eventually able to get access to the house, arriving to the previous guests' mess. Some clean linens were delivered late in the evening but did not include the correct size sheets for all beds, and some guests slept on top of random blankets, making for a stressful and gross feeling first night. I received a refund of approximately 1/3 of the total cost for the 2 night stay, which they said was a one night stay cost (apparently not including fees). Since this was a family gathering to commemorate a death in the family, and not a vacation, it was added stress. We were never reimbursed for the first night's dinner, and the house was only partially cleaned the next day. In the end we made due and still enjoyed the the beach and our family time.

This house was the oddest mishmash lodging I’ve ever been in. It looks like a very old rundown cabin with a beautiful addition added to it. Two of the bedrooms literally were plywood and cinderblock walls and were freezing even with the heater. The stairs into the house had zero railing or banister to hold onto. Very unsafe.However, the new addition was beautiful. Big kitchen lots of seating to die for windows and view out to the Pacific Ocean. That was wonderful. But moving through the house was very strange. And bathroom number three? Way down in the bowels of the house, down the stairs with no bannister with no lighting and hardly any heat. We were unable to enter the house as instructed through the keypad so we had to wander around the back of the house and find another keypad. The Meredith lodging customer service reps were very friendly and helpful, but seemed a bit confused about the keypads as well. There was no hand soap so we had to buy our own But plenty of dish soap and towels and other amenities. we did lose power off and on throughout the weekend, but that’s not anyone’s fault… We did go to the beach in December but the appliances in the kitchen are all very newfangled with motion sensor activation so half the time the older people in our crowd could not figure out how to turn on the fan over the stove or the sink even. And the Keurig machine seem to be broken and leaked all over. There was another coffee pot though, so we were happy.Overall OK

We had our maintenance team place extra portable heaters and we are having the HVAC system inspected. We will have a vendor look at adding railings, too. Location, location, location

This is a prime location, right on the beach with a fenced yard, and a short walk to the (somewhat limited) shops and restaurants of Rockaway Beach. Clearly, this is a property consisting of two very different generations. The old house, to which a nice addition has been appended on the beach side, consists of two bedrooms, a living room/kitchen, and (on a lower level) a bathroom and entry hall. The old part is dark and uninviting, artificially brightened in the online photographs. No one wanted to spend much time in that part of the house—except to play foosball, and we put two of the older children in those bedrooms. They’re wonderful kids and didn’t complain. The new part is wonderful: bright, open, well designed and appointed. That’s where we all gathered. If you rent this house, go around to the surf (west) side to enter it for the first time because entering at the lower level on the southeast corner of the old house is startling and off-putting. I hope the owners have plans to gut and refurbish the old section. Would I recommend this property? Maybe. Would I rent it again? Probably not. Not at that price.
