The Neighborhood:
You're a one-minute walk from Main Street (Harrison Avenue) in downtown Leadville — the highest city in North America at 10,152 ft — with saloons, restaurants, shops, and mining-era history. Turquoise Lake (paddling, fishing, the shoreline trail) is about 12 minutes away, and the Mt. Elbert trailhead — Colorado's highest peak — is about 26 minutes. Ski Cooper and Copper Mountain are roughly 25 minutes; Vail, Breckenridge, and Keystone are 30–50 minutes over the passes. Summer brings 14ers, hiking, and the lake; winter brings skiing and a quiet historic town.
Getting Around:
You can walk to Main Street, but a car is useful for the ski areas, trailheads, and lake. Free parking is on-site. Drive times: about 12 minutes to Turquoise Lake, 25 minutes to Ski Cooper and Copper Mountain, 26 minutes to the Mt. Elbert trailhead, and 30–50 minutes to Vail, Breckenridge, and Keystone over the passes. Winter driving on Highway 24 and the passes can be snowy — allow extra time and check conditions.
