Best Place I've Stayed In Canaan

Cabin experience

Rating Details: The property manager was very unhelpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall the cabin it's self was fine . The issues were with the rental company failing to maintain the property. The heat was set on 50 degrees when we arrived, the baseboard heater in the living room was not working due to a breaker being off. The mechanism inside the gas fireplace needed batteries replaced and we had to turn the hot water tank on. In addition the hot tub was in poor condition and was not used . According to Diane from Best of Canaan the hot tub was stained due to the sediment in the water , which is why it's called Blackwater . The issues with this explanation is that 1) the residue came off on my hands, 2) this is the only hottub in this community ( Timberline ) that I've seen in this condition 3) Blackwater is called such due to tannic acid from hemlock and spruce needles, giving the water it's hue. I was refunded 100 dollars for the hot tub fee . After visiting canaan for the last 8 years , I've never experienced such issues or unapologetic response .

Everything was great but the Internet was horrible and a family member who had to work and needed internet to work. We also love to watch movies as a family and the internet failed us. It was slower than slow.

A little family get away

It was so quiet and peaceful with plenty of outdoor space to walk, explore, and enjoy. We also appreciated that the owner allows dogs there,too. The floor plan was one big reason for us to book this property ....4 bedrooms each with its own bathroom...no one had to share!!The cabin was beautifully decorated; we felt very cozy and relaxed.While the kitchen was well equipped and there was a new dishwasher, we have to say that the lighting is, unfortunately, terrible!!. We did a lot of cooking and had to bring in a floor lamp and desk lamps to be able to see properly. It would also be nice if the many wall switches in the kitchen and great room were labeled as to what they control. There were no directions for the great room ceiling fan but we finally figured it out. Overall though, this is a very nice place and I am sure many visitors would enjoy it.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house was great. 4 bedrooms & 4 baths. I only saw 1 small spider in the house, and I am always on the lookout for them. The only real issue I had was there is not good lighting in the kitchen. I had to get a floor lamp from one of the bedrooms and put it on the kitchen counter. They attempted to add a couple small ones for the countertop but they did not shine properly how you would need them. They could use a larger broom as the decks are huge and need swept off from the trees. The grill is very easy to use as it is hooked up to a gas line. No need to worry about the propane tank. We did buy WD-40 to fix the squeaky front door and tape to fix the screen door as the weather was 75 degrees and we could open and air out the house. Which is no problem for us as we always leave our rental homes in better condition than we find them. It was a really nice home, all the bathrooms were updated. we would stay there again.

Perfect Chill Getaway

The house was perfect for us. 4 bathrooms so no one had to share! Loved the Electrolux washer/dryer and Williams Sonoma dishes. We take lots of long weekend trips and the little touches make being away from home easier. We love to find the vacation homes with the same amenities we’re accustomed to having at home. The kids adored the path in the backyard. Definitely a highlight for them! Thanks so much for sharing this home with us. We sincerely enjoyed everything.

Vacation

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house was beautiful and well appointed. However, we had to call the management company several times during our stay. They were responsive and sent out a wonderfully nice maintenance man twice. Evidently, the dishwasher had been not working for a period of time, it was worked on, but didn't work for us at all, despite our lovely maintenance man coming out twice. No one wants to do dishes on vacation, so that was disappointing. The gas fireplace was lovely until the last 24 hours of our stay when it stopped working all together. The hot tub was warm and clean, but has lots of jets not working as it has some age on it. The stove also needs calibration as it took everything longer to cook, and we cooked every meal in the home. The house was very well appointed and had lots of little extras to make cooking easy. We enjoyed the the whole house nonetheless. We hiked on the trails, went skiing, skating, played games and our dogs enjoyed the back yard. The best part was being together and with a few improvements it really could be a 5 star home.

Quiet Getaway

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Second winter renting this adorable house nestled in the woods. Having four full bathrooms is a definite plus as well as the full size washer and dryer. The showers are nice and there was always plenty of hot water. The kitchen has adequate supplies for meal making. The living room furniture is comfortable and the gas grill was located conveniently on the back deck. All four bedrooms have their own access to outside. Comfortably accommodated our party of eight again this trip.The only negative about the house was the cleanliness upon arrival. The floors had not been swept or vacuumed. We vacuumed and swept a large amount of dirt throughout the main living area including underneath the couch and both chairs and knocked down large cobwebs in the front windows. We also found empty candy wrappers, empty candy cartons, empty solo cups and bandaids under one of the beds as well as a broken wicker chair in the same bedroom. It was apparent that the house hadn’t be cleaned since the last renters even though there is a cleaning fee as part of the rental agreement. We reported that the dishwasher was not operable on arrival and it still had not been fixed or looked at after staying for five days.
