Pet friendly Cottage & Hot Tub *Unaffected by bylaw changes*

Our worry free luxury cottage is our second dwelling on our main resident property and therefore is risk free of unexpected cancellations.
Here at the Sailors’ Rest our goal is to give our guests an experience to remember and tell their friends. This project and final product is a culmination of the artistic designs of one of the hosts that took a 2-car unfinished garage and repurposed it into what you see, using the Naval decor from your other host’s personal and family history of their father and his own service as Commanders in the Royal Canadian Navy. You will see various paraphernalia, pictures of Naval tradition and history throughout. While you are here don’t forget to sign the log book and tell us about your stay.

As our pampered guest you will have the luxury of being in your own private space, well equipped to fully enjoy your island getaway, private event, or celebration. The Sailors’ Rest is fitted with a nautical inspired fence, to give your crew and possibly furry friends, additional privacy. You will also have access to the gazebo and surrounding gardens and putting green through your garden gate. Please note that your furry companions will not have access to this shared space without you in attendance. If you are looking for someone to look after your furry friend for a period of your stay, we can connect you to our trusted pet sitting provider.

As your hosts, Mich and Michael, we are pleased to have you drop your anchor and spend some time sharing our little oasis. While we appreciate you choosing the Sailors’ Rest as your vacation destination unfortunately we will not always be on location. As ships pass we will wave hello and wish you an amazing stay. Of course if there is something you need please send us a message, we suggest using an app rather than a bottle;)

We are not a waterfront or water-view property, though we are only a few minutes walk down to the ocean. We are also right next to an off-leash dog park, tennis courts (we have rackets and balls for you to use), pickle ball courts, and kids play area. If you are bringing your bikes or running shoes there are lots of trails to explore near by. We also offer a putting green for you to use if you are interested in hitting a few balls and practicing your swing.

Would have liked to enjoy the beautiful outdoor area

The accomodation was very clean and had everything you would need. The hot tub was full of leaf litter and so was the trampoline but the kids were expected to take off their shoes. After coming back in after 2 mins with slivers they didnt use it again. The owners also had dogs running around barking at us which was obviously a big deterrent for using the fire pit or play area. Both of my kids were quite disappointed. If you don't plan on using those amenities the rest of the place was great.

Wonderful little cabin

We were in the area for a wedding so location was exceptional for our purposes. During the time we did stay on the property we had access to a beautiful yard, play centre and trampoline for the baby. Hot tub was a great way to wind down at the end of the day. Cabin was well stocked with cooking materials. Hosts were friendly and welcoming.

Location location location and a hot tub

We had a wonderful 30 day stay at The Sailors Rest. Well equipped home away from home. Paloma the dog loved the walk through the forest to the close by off leash park where she made lots of friends. The hot tub was well maintained and was a lovely end to the days after exploring Duncan and the Cowichan area.

Fabulous Retreat

The Sailors Rest was the best VRBO we have stayed in! It was created with love and the history of the family who owns the property ! Every single detail was well thought out and very special ! The humans and dog were equally cared for and this place truly felt like home! The decor, beds, pillows, bedding, kitchen setup and fenced yard were perfect for our family! The yard is stunning and the hot tub was welcomed!!! We will definitely be back ! Mich was an attentive and amazing host and made us feel so welcomed and comfortable throughout our stay!

Adventures at the sailors retreat

Our family had a fantastic stay at the sailors retreat. Arriving very late our first day. The hosts were extremely accomodating and we were able to get into THE vacation home without a hitch. Welcomed with such a lovely, very clean space including it being puppy proofed so that they could have an amazing stay as well. So many interesting items to see in this sailors delight and filled with everything you may need, even a rice cooker. We were so very appreciative of the information provided for what to do and see in this georgeous area. We visited the local wineries, the local fish market, antique barn, and travelled to nanaimo, comox/courtney and many beaches even one with black sand nearby. There are many good hiking trails and waterfalls to see in the area and if you miss the city you are only an hour from nanaimo and an hour from victoria. Feeling sore from all the hiking you can come back and have a soak in the hot tub enjoying the view of the tranquil yard. There is a dog park, pickle ball, walking trails and tennis courts almost next door. We made use of it all since the home was also equipped with equipment to play. Taught my kids how to play, was awesome. All i can say is that you wont be dissappiinted and it far exceeded what i expected.

Incredible place and area

For a visit to Vancouver Island, this is the perfect location!!!! Amenities are excellent, grille, hot tub, full kitchen all in perfect working order. Communication with the owner was exceptional, JUST A WONDERFUL STAY!!! You are in the middle of VIs wine country, so kind of like an idyllic farm setting. Nanaimo and Victoria are only about 1/2 hour away, we went down several times to sit in the Victoria Harbor and took MULTIPLE ferries from Nanaimo. REALLY could not recommend this place more - very nice!!!!

Lovely property with a new surprise around each corner. Loved our getaway with the dogs and super happy with our choice. Just be mindful, if you are googling Salt Spring Island and this place comes up, it is not on Salt Spring but a short drive will get you to the ferry at Crofton to cross! Perfect in every way

What an incredible gem. Our family found Sailor's Rest to be just right in terms of size, location and amenities. The house makes great use of space, is beautifully decorated, and really does have everything one might need. In addition to all the standard amenities and well stocked kitchen, we really enjoyed the numerous special touches, including games, art, books, and some real Canadian naval history. We found the house spotlessly clean, and also took advantage of the wonderfully landscaped yard and gazebo (and hot tub!) The host and his amazing family went out of their way to make us feel welcome, and provided lots of info on local activities. Three days in the area didn't really put a dent in everything Cowichan Valley has to offer, so we truly hope we get a chance to return. Thanks Mich!

Restful Mini Moon

Wife, dog and I stayed at the Sailor's rest for a long weekend getaway. The cottage was very clean, and a warm space to hunker down and watch the rain from inside and while we soaked in the hot tub. We really appreciated the history spread throughout the cottage too. Our dog loved the shared space and nearby dog park. Our hosts were wonderful to talk with and message, with excellent recommendations of things to do in the area that we took full advantage of. 10/10 we would love to take another trip to the Cowichan Valley to relax, recharge, and recreate, while we stay at the Sailor's Rest.
