Perfect family getaway

Great House and Great location

Our second stay here with family for a nearby wedding. The house is amazing, beautiful, and well taken care of. It has a high end cabin feel and a morning coffee on the dock of Gomm Pond is a great way to start the day.

Very disappointed because of the lack of information and direct contact from agent. Property needs a lot of deferred maintenance. Outside door locks were problematic—deadbolts need to be fixed. Oven door drops to floor and is dangerous, plumbing fixtures and shower heads need adjusting. Main windows were really dirty, cabinets need to be cleaned. We found unwashed sheet pans in cupboard.

Fantastic property

This was such a fun property to stay at! Plenty of rooms, beds, bathrooms (more than what is listed) and an awesome outdoor space. We were there with our four adult kids (19-28) and their significant others for a 50th bday celebration. The pond was a hit! The kayaks paddle boards (adult/kid size) , and canoe were in great condition and provided hours of fun. We hired a local photographer (Lampshade studios) to take family photos by the pond. The neighbors property is really close with the yards running into each other, but the neighbor John was very friendly. We had five cars and easily had plenty of room for parking. This property would be great for families with older children as toddlers would be too risky to have around the pond. The hike to Periodic Springs was beautiful and very, very easy (about 3/4 mile) and the little town of Afton was very quaint, we loved the Dogeared used bookstore. We enjoyed our trip here and wish we would’ve booked it for a little longer stay. We will be back!

Perfect family vacation place!

We had a great time! The house is amazing with lots of room. It was clean and cozy. We had plenty of room for all the adults and the kids. The garage has several kayaks, paddle boards and a canoe. We loved playing in the pond! About 10 minutes out of Afton.

Great location

We loved this property. It was a great place for a teen leader ship retreat. Lots of things for the kids to do. Games, fire pit, all sizes of lifejackets and water equipment to go out in the pond with. Beds were super comfortable. A few minor things could enhance the property, lightbulbs that were out in, the little side deck was dirty, a little dust and cobwebs (but who doesn’t have that !). But nothing that took away from our experience of the property. It was a great location, it was as described.

Great Site - Poor Property Management

Don't get me wrong. This is a beautiful home with great activities to do, however..... because the property manager failed to answer some questions and concerns up front I was overall disappointed with our stay. The home appeared to have not been dusted under the furniture for over a year as several toys and a lot of dust were found under them. We also found dried food in the kitchen from previous guests. The kitchen is incomplete from the perspective of cooking for seven adults and six children. Fortunately, since the property manager did not respond to my requests regarding the status of the kitchen before we went up I brought along several of my own pots, pans, and cutting boards. I was glad I did. One pan on the site was so warped it should be thrown away. I repaired one other pot and the griddle which were on site. There was no vegetable peeler, no decent liquid measuring cup, no dish detergent, one hot pad, a limited number of kitchen dish rags and there is a limited supply of eating bowls. The grease on the outside of the kitchen hood was heavy. We cleaned it. The pneumatics on three of the five bar stools did not work and were useless as chairs. Two of the bathtub/showers drain very slowly. The air conditioner is undersized and could not keep up with cooling needs on the upper floor (it was a hot week) and the owners manual asked that the windows not be opened. Several light bulbs were burned out. The fire pit was so full we could not use it until we shoveled it out. The owner's manual asks you limit the use of wifi as they are on a data usage rate. This would have been nice to know in advance. There was nothing to start the BBQ with and the ignitor did not work. Fortunately the neighbors are extremely nice and let us borrow a lighter. We purchased one the next day and left it at the home. Never found the first aid kit. The list of the minor things goes on. The positives - Great site, plenty of firewood for the fire pit and fireplaces. Lots of toys and games for the children. Pond is a little dirty, but a canoe and paddle boards were available. Laundry room was nice. General layout was good. Did I contact the property manager during our stay? I did not. Her failure to communicate up front led me to believe making a call to her would be a waste of time. Is this property worth renting? If the owner sat down with the property manager (maybe they are the same) and spent $500 - $1,000 this could be a model property.

Beautiful location, beautiful home, needs TLC

This home is in a beautiful location and is a beautiful home. But it needs a lot of TLC. The master bedroom mattress needs to be replaced, it was awful - two large divots where use left the mattress a taco. Essentially the only comfortable place to sleep was in the middle of the bed. We communicated this the first night we arrived and were told they would do their best to replace within 4 days. Never heard back about it - we stayed 7 nights and returned home with major back aches. The rug in the master bedroom is worn to the rug backing in numerous spots and needs to be replaced. The minimal pots, pans, serving bowls & dishes are worn also & need to be replaced, as well as more of them - there is NOT enough for a large group. Lightbulbs are burnt out in almost every fixture. When we arrived the fireplaces and fire pit weren't cleaned out - still had ash, trash and burned logs from previous guests. The refrigerator froze everything, no matter how high we turned the temperature. There weren't any containers to store left over food in, cooking utensils were sparse, no hot pads at all and knives were dull. The couch cushions were stained and throw pillows worn to bare threads and dirty. The high patio dinner table appeared to have been broken, leaving only chairs and a low small side table - no meals to be had outside. The BBQ grill wouldn't ignite and no lighter on the property, the grill also was dirty upon arrival. The kitchen island stools are broken and too low to utilize at the counter, in the broken position. It is a large property with space for large families. Main level great room and lower level family rooms are wonderful. The kitchen and bathrooms are very nice. Bedrooms comfortable in a beautiful location, with tons of outdoor toys provided. But the items provided to make the home comfortable and usable are tired and worn out or don't exist. When contacting the property manager they said they would share with the owner and correct. However, not sure how that will go as many items we had issue with are also shared in previous reviews. We took two tubs of our personal items and were so glad we did. We have rented numerous VRBO properties, this was the nicest home thus far, but also the least cared for. I hope the owners visit soon and provide some love and care to this beautiful home.

We loved our stay here. House layout is awesome with two separate living areas, tons of space for flexible multi-family sleeping arrangements, and garage full of fun stuff to enjoy the water. Will definitely find an excuse to come back here again.

Great place too stay!!

Stayed from a Sunday to Sunday. It was the perfect home for my family and extended family. It had ever amenities you could think of. From toys for my grandkids to a kitchen with everything you would need to cook. Rooms were big enough for multiple people to be in. Not to mention the bedrooms and bathrooms. Over all a fun place to have a reunion.

Heads up...

This property looks like it sits by itself however there are a few houses that sit pretty close which we didn't mind but the pics make you think you are more remote. Upon arrival, within 20 minutes of us pulling in, the neighbor came right up to us and made sure to give us the rules (not sure if he is the caretaker or not) but we got the hunch he's not too welcoming of new visitors every week so wanted to make sure up front that we knew our place and that it was not near his side of the pond. It was very easy to check in but upon entering, it was very hot inside the house so we attempted to turn the air down however it would not work. The house was 81 degrees. I contacted the owner via email and by phone. I was told that wifi blinking on the thermostat does not matter to turn the air down anyways and it would work. It did not... still remained hot.. owner stopped responding to my emails. No one ever returned our phone call and no one ever cam out to look at the air. Because of this, we all had to sleep downstairs where it was cooler. We checked the ac unit out back and seen that it was frozen solid so that is why the ac was not working. The neighbor again must have seen us looking and we told him we were having some issues trying to get the house to cool. He then mentioned that he has heard from past visitors that this is always an issue. The house was beautiful but you can tell all the faux animal decor hanging on the walls were covered in dust... glasses had finger prints on them. Windows were so dirty with hand prints and finger prints which was a shame because the house has a large living room window that has a beautiful view. Not the most cleanest place. The trees and shrubs around the house was overgrown a good bit which was also a shame since the home is very beautiful, just looked like someone only mowed grass there and nothing else. Also on arrival, there was trash in the garage left by previous visitors and because of the heat made for an awful smell. On the instructions for check out, it states to put trash in the garage and then on the same page, it states to take it to the trashcans outside. So we are assuming that the last visitors were just doing what they were supposed to and the caretakers did not bother to remove trash before our arrival. Once we checked out, I got an email stating they are charging me for a thermostat even though the air was not working prior to checking in. Highly upset about this. Beware!

Hi Jennifer - We appreciate your review and feedback. Sorry about the miscommunication and maintenance that is needed on the home. Our little valley is growing so fast and like everywhere we are struggling to get enough help to keep up with things. We've made the changes you've suggested on the house. Our apologies.
