Perfect holiday stay. The Barn is clean comfortable and fully equipped with every thing you need. It took a little getting used to, as we have never used one before, but in the end we loved the aga. As other reviewers have also commented the welcome basket was the most generous we have received at any cottage stay and the host was perfect with the right level of friendliness and being left alone at the same time.Monkwood is a lovely quiet location but well positioned for visiting Winchester, Portsmouth and the local towns or Alresford and Alton. You do need a car but the parking at The Barn was perfect. we would happily stay here again

Wonderful countryside retreat

Just returned from a lovely three night stay. An absolutely beautiful barn in a great location, like a home from home. Unfortunately the weather was terrible during our visit but the barn was a really warm and cosy place to come back too. Would thoroughly recommend.

Excellent, comfortable accommodation, very clean and Covid secure. Owners are close neighbours however, they do not interfere. The kitchen is well equipped, the best we have ever stayed in. Beds are comfortable. No amenities such as shops are close by, you will need to drive to buy any groceries. Lots of lovely walks close by within walking distance which our dog thoroughly enjoyed. What a great property. Lovely owner who couldn't do enough while we were in the area house hunting. Central location, great dog walks, visit Frensham ponds, beautiful, Winchester, 20 mins away, Stokes Bay on the coast 40 mins easy drive. THe Aga looked scary but wasn't. Quiet, all you could hear were birds or horses clip clopping down the lane. Would recommend with hesitation.

Very well equipped and clean cottage with everything you need for a holiday. Used an Aga for the first time and wish we could have one at home as well! The owner was very responsive to our queries on our first day and came over to welcome us (their house is in the same yard). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

We booked The Barn on the basis it was described as baby and toddler friendly.

We booked The Barn on the basis it was described as baby and toddler friendly. We visited in August and our son was 16 months old at the time and in to everything! We needed eyes in the back of our heads! The Aga was scorching to the touch night and day, so we had to barricade it off using three dining chairs to avoid him burning his hands. The highchair provided had no straps to keep our son secure and he attempted to climb out each time we used it. There was one stair gate available which only fitted at the bottom of the stairs...which left us to block off the top of the stairs by pushing a two seater settee across the landing each time we went upstairs to the lounge or bedrooms. This took effort and was not convenient as older children in our party wanted to go down to the kitchen or out to the garden frequently. We also booked this property as it has an enclosed garden. Unfortunately the latch on the garden gate was so low down and easy to open that again, we had to find alternative ways to stop the toddler escaping onto the driveway! All of these factors led to a less than relaxing holiday. The Barn itself was well equipped, the beds comfy and the owner very welcoming. It was disappointing that the bidet was still broken (mentioned on other review sites) due to a broken plug and low pressure from the tap meant it could not be used. In all honesty it was a disappointing holiday home but more because of the toddler issues than anything else.

The Barn is in a delightful location with plenty to do locally. The facilities and level of comfort were excellent. Cooking on an aga for the first time was a challenge, however one that we overcame with the assistance of the selection of cookery books that were provided. I can thoroughly recommend this property to any holiday maker looking to enjoy themselves.
