Full of character
We spent two nights at Shawn’s lovely cabin in Gardiner. Our family enjoyed the gorgeous skyline, the friendly horses, and the breeze that filtered through in the evening. Shawn’s attention to maintaining and preserving cabin’s original structure and to decorating it in a simple, elegant way made the experience particularly comfortable. Upon her recommendation we went riding and rafting with a local company and had a fantastic time!
The cabin was a great retreat for us. We had been traveling all day through Yellowstone and looked forward to relaxing. The shower was hot and the beds were the most comfortable we had slept on in days! It was very charming!
Cozy, Convenient to Yellowstone, Comfortable
My husband, our 2 year old daughter and myself stayed here for 5 nights while we visited Yellowstone National Park. It was very convenient to the park and the town of Gardiner, but it was far enough away that it was peaceful. The cabin is exactly as described and the pictures are precise. This is not a traditional house. This is exactly what it says it is, it is primitive. The perks: there is running water, there is hot water to shower, there is a magnificent creek literally right next to the cabin. The cabin was fully stocked with candles, lanterns, matches, and some flashlights. The beds were VERY comfortable. The wood stove worked nicely to heat both rooms through the night when it was cold outside. Owner was on sight when we arrived to greet us and show us around. Shawn was very friendly and a wonderful hostess. She gave us the specifics on using the hot water for the shower (which was amazing after hiking in Yellowstone all day). We had one little hiccup during our stay. It was minor really and turned out to be operators error, but Shawn showed up right away to make sure things were taken care of. There was plenty of firewood already chopped and ready to use for the outside firepit as well as the wood stove inside. This place is a nice peaceful retreat that in my opinion, just kind of enhances the whole Yellowstone experience. We thoroughly enjoyed out stay and would love to stay here again should we make it back out to Yellowstone. Thank you Shawn for everything!
Great place with amazin views!
Very clean, very accommodating!
The cabin is as described. It was comfortable and warm with the wood stove burning. Beds were warm, comfortable, and clean. It's a very rustic experience but enjoyable if you like that sort of thing. It's also about half the cost of a hotel in the area. It was a super quick (5 min) drive into Gardiner and Yellowstone NP.
The area surrounding the cabin was just a little "dumpy" and could use a quick clean up of miscellaneous items sitting nearby. The cabin is more like 50 yards from than highway than 150 yards and the highway was busy and loud even in October. Dishes looked like they had been washed when last guests left but were dusty when we arrived. It would have been nice if somebody had at least rinsed the dust off before our arrival. The biggest drawback for me was the fact that the available water had a truly terrible taste that was not hidden when we used it for coffee and oatmeal in the mornings. I'm not picky about my water, I never buy bottled water or filter tap water but this water was terrible. I would highly encourage anyone using the cabin to consider bringing their own supply of water.
Overall the experience was pleasant. We saw a heard of elk one of the mornings and I even had an encounter with a bear just outside (maybe 30 feet) from the cabin. Seeing a bear so close was both very neat and terrifying all at the same time.
In short, if you're looking for a reasonably priced place to stay and don't mind a rustic setting, I would recommend staying here.
The perfect Montana off the grid experience.
My husband and I spent one night at the early 1900's cabin and we had the best experience.
The bed was very comfortable, the atmosphere was cozy and warm.
The owner was very welcoming and helpful on where to eat locally and sights to see.
The property was amazing and we felt like we were in the wilderness. There were elk and deer and other critters to make us feel like we were
really experiencing Montana life. The owner Shawn had the fire going and popcorn ready to pop, it was such a wonderful time.
Will definitely be going back again and more often. Thank you Shawn and family for you hospitality.
