Amazinggg views, but interior needs some serious love
The most wonderful things about this home are the views and that it is one of the original Sea Ranch homes with beautiful architectural bones. The location is extraordinary and you can see and hear the sound of the ocean from nearly every room. The fireplace is also lovely. Sadly, this home has fallen into disrepair over the years and has not been well maintained. (I first stayed here 22+ years ago with the original owners and again about 9 years ago.) The windows needed to be repaired/replaced during my last visit and have only gotten worse. Many of them do not close properly and while this allows for more access to the sounds of the sea, on colder days it creates a serious draft. The rug in the living room is the same from 9 years ago ago and it wasn't great then. Now it's beyond shabby. The beds are quite old, dingy and uncomfortable and the shade in the primary bedroom bathroom has clearly been broken for some time. Why no one has replaced it is a mystery when it would cost little and make a great difference. As others have mentioned there is an ongoing any problem. There are ant traps placed strategically around the home, but I still woke up once in the middle of the night with a few ants crawling on me. (eep!) There were often ants in the kitchen as much as we tried to keep food wrapped up and out of reach. The oven had only one shelf which made cooking challenging and when I looked for and found a second shelf it didn't fit and seemed to be for a previous oven. I understand that this is a rental and that things break and go missing from time to time, but it feels like no one is paying attention. I don't find these broken or missing things "quaint." It's not inexpensive to stay at Sea Ranch and it feels cheap and disappointing that basic amenities have not been touched in more than a decade's time. As much as I love this house, I'm not sure I would stay here again until some basic interior upgrades are made. (I called Vacasa as a courtesy before writing this review to give them the opportunity to address my concerns, but their response was indifferent at best. Note to owner: Time to find a new management company?)
