Christmas/ New Year holiday
Can highly recommend this property. The owner, Judith has thought and catered for ones every need, from the welcoming tea and scones, fresh flowers. For us as it was Christmas the tree and decorations tastefully done, to help make a perfect Christmas break. Would highly recommend! 🎄🎄
It was lovely to 'Welcome' you both for the festive season, I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again in the future.
With best wishes
We loved our stay and had a very relaxing holiday here. The views from the sitting room and bedrooms are just spectacular. You can lose an hour easily just watching boats and birds and changing weather. The house is lovely, well appointed, extremely comfortable, very clean. The beds are very comfortable and because of its location there is absolutely no road noise so it is incredibly quiet and peaceful.
There are opportunities to take guided kayak trips along the river and it is perfect for anyone who likes sailing or boating.
Lovely house in a fabulous location
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely, quiet, picturesque location. It was just what we needed to relax and Judith made sure we could do that, especially with the extra touches that she provided! It made such a difference to arrive to afternoon cream tea and the fridge and cupboards stocked with the necessities we needed without having to rush out to find a shop. The house was very clean and looked after and we had everything we needed to be able to relax and enjoy the fabulous view! Can definitely recommend this for a quiet, relaxing holiday.
Beautiful View, Stunning House
We arrived at Kiln Cottage after a 24 hour trip. As we turn the corner into the tiny town, the picturesque estuary, with boats bobbing, filled our view. Judith came from London to make sure we had everything needed. The kitchen table was fully set with enough traditional food, all beautifully presented, for our late supper and breakfast. The cottage is on three levels, and decorated in beautiful soft colors in a consistent, but varied, way. The kitchen has very modern appliances, all are perfectly clean as is the whole house. Most is made of the water view from the the living room and two of the bedrooms, and we spent every morning sitting in two cozy chairs looking out with our coffee.
All the bedding was highest quality and seemed new, and sleep was easy in such a quiet location. We spent days touring, from Fowey to Penzance with stops at historic sights and gardens along the way. The local pub is barely a stroll down the road, the rowing club provides the show, and you are going to love every minute in this charming home,
Holidaying beside and on the river Fowey - what more could you want
At long last I have a moment to sit down and wrote something!
We stayed recently at this property during the October half term.
We were welcomed with a very traditional tea and scones (which lasted for several days!), and was just the thing after the drive down to Cornwall.
The house sits in a very quite position with great views across the river Fowey and just two minutes walk from the local pub.
There is a railway line between you and the river which is only used by a freight train twice a day and which the kids loved to watch. The house was tidy and suitably spacious enough for three adults (couple and great granny!), and two children to stay.
The drive up to the house is steep and narrow and most people wouldn't want to use it too much. Space to turn around is also very tight and reversing up or down isn't easy. Since we had two cars one had to be left along the street below (which didn't cause any problems but it was out of season).
The house has full central heating which was important since we had an elderly person with us. Sadly we only discovered the day before our last that the radiator wasn't working in great granny’s room (she didn't want to bother us!).
The property has great access to the river Fowey if you are into boats and water sports generally. You can literally launch from opposite the property or just down the lane at a slipway at low tide. This and the fact that the property particulars state (and arguably imply), that it has Kayak / Canoe under the heading ‘Outside’ along with Deck Chairs, Binoculars and Barbecue etc (all of which it does have), was another of the reasons we chose the house. We therefore left our kayak at home only to find it does not come with one. The owner didn't seem at all bothered or concerned when we mentioned this. In the end we hired a canoe from a hire business immediately next door and were later offered a canoe from a local to make use of (not the owner!).
The wonderful town of Fowey is less than a ten minute drive away (or longer, pleasant canoe trip), with its busy, narrow streets and river mouth. Be aware just how busy and contested it can get even out of season! There is a lot to do and explore in the area and especially on water. The only surprise is that there isn't any easy walk along the waters edge from the village in either direction.
All in all we did enjoy our stay in spite of there being no heating in grannies room and there being no canoe!
This is a lovely house in a perfect spot if you are looking for peace an quiet with good access to all of Southern Cornwall. Its a comfortable, spacious home with a charming garden, close to the village pub and with superb views Caution is in order if you are tall, low ceilings can lead to bumped heads, also, no shower in master bedroom on third floor, only a tub. Otherwise, a perfect getaway spot,, we highly recommend it!
