Our goal was to have a relaxing mini holiday & thats what we got.
The cleanest villa we stayed in by far and we have been in a few in Tobago!
Thanks Lesley, Sharon & Victoria!
Our stay at Tamarind House Villa this August was perfect. I totally appreciated the perfectly equipped kitchen as I was doing my own catering. Setting was nice, the sea bathing delightful, the pool pleasant, the only thing lacking was breeze. I suppose it 's just that time of year when it's still. A very comfortable dwelling otherwise. The homemade soaps added a nice touch and so did the great library of music and movies. I highly recommend this very spacious Villa if wanting to stay in a peaceful part of Tobago, surrounded by gorgeous tropical forest and emerald Caribbean waters.
We returned to Parletuvier and the Tamarind house for the third time this spring! After getting married there last year, we booked yet another trip. I can not say enough good things about this house and Lesley, who owns it - and Sharon who helps caretake. The house was, as it always is, in wonderful condition - beautiful, bright, airy, clean. It is a delight to visit and we had a perfect stress-free trip. The condition of everything is always great - clean towels and lots of them, crisp sheets, plenty of books and a great stock of cooking utensils.
Sharon stocked the fridge for us since we were arriving late and did a perfect job. She also cooked a simple, but amazing meal - and we had leftovers for days! The pool was clean and the grounds are immaculate. We also found a GREAT new convenience store at the top of the hill - a full selection of produce and all sorts of big-city items right here in our tiny fishing village. Great to see Imbie and Miss V at the Jetty market, cold beers, ice creams and lots of laughs! Also had a great time walking the back stairs to Glassgows as our "workout" on the way to get a cold shandy and play cards!
This is our favorite getaway and we will hopefully be coming again next year. There is truly no place like it! And Lesley, Nick and Sharon are the most wonderful hosts!
We had a reservation for 10 days at Tamarind house and just returned home. The house is exactly as pictured, very large and well appointed and clean. The location is wonderful and the view of Parlatuvier Bay and the pier are beautiful. I could sit there all day. We even had fireflies at night which we hadn't seen since we were little. The back porch is equally as nice looking on the pool and the rainforest right behind the house. Parrots every day and huge palm trees in the hills of the rainforest with nice breezes. The pool was great, very clean and there is a grill which we used nightly as we bought fresh mahi mahi and tuna from the fishermen at the pier. FRESH seafood and it was very easy to purchase from them. We stocked up on groceries and liquor in Canaan at the Penny Saver but the small convenience stores in Parlatuvier had your basics. The locals are very friendly. The store right off the main ridge road in Roxborough (Pablos) was a great find. Very handy for more stocking up (better selection) and only a gorgeous 25 minute drive. At the T at the end of the main ridge road, take a right and it's on the left a couple of blocks down. We rented a car for our stay and once we got used to driving on the "wrong" side of the road it was fine. The drivers are pretty crazy though. We took day trips covering the entire island One thing we found out was that if you are planning on using an ATM for money, the ones around us didn't work and we ended up going to Scarborough where the ATMs worked for us. They are a lot more dependable on the south side but you have to deal with a lot of tourists and traffic down there. We loved being in the location we were in. You cannot go wrong with this property! Lesley, the owner and Sharon, the property manager are very helpful with questions. Sharon was right there for us if we needed anything, which we pretty much did not. The house was great! We dove and snorkeled through Richie (Wild Turtle) in Castara and he took us to dive sites not marked and a great snorkel spot at Rocky Point next to Castara. Pristine sites. Englishmans Bay was beautiful, a must. We would definitely return Lesley if you will have us!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us! I can see why you guys built here, absolutely stunning. Don't hesitate to book this!
The villa is spacious and its location overlooking Parlatuvier Bay allows guests to check out the local fishing boat activity and observe the rich birdlife in the garden. It’s an easy walk down to the beach and jetty where we bought some lovely fresh tuna or to the small shops where we could chat with the friendly locals.
The sharp gradient into the sea means that snorkelling in the Bay is more a less a no no as swimmers are pounded back into the sand. Bloody Bay, Englishman’s Bay and Little Bay. Conditions are similar. A 3-hour rainforest walk with Fitzroy Quamina in the nearby Tobago Forest Reserve is a must. The fisherman’s coop at Charlottesville and Jemma’s Seaview Kitchen at Speyside (for a wonderful fresh lobster lunch) are musts also plus the excellent 3-course home-made lunch at Cuffie River Nature Retreat. Nearby Castara is a pleasant resort town with a nice beach.
We had a really enjoyable holiday–but it would have been better without some significant design and maintenance problems:
• The house’s stylish design ignores some basic Caribbean ventilation principles. The dark cedar wood attracts heat, which sometimes makes internal conditions oppressive, particularly at night when the heavy external doors to the bedrooms must be closed for security reasons and to keep the bugs out. (The somewhat flimsy inner louvered doors do not have screens, nor do they provide adequate security). So, to enjoy a comfortably cool night’s sleep in any of the three bedrooms it's either the ghastly AC or compromise your security.
After 8 years, there are signs of wear and tear and inadequate maintenance :
• The spacious kitchen is generally well equipped with large working surfaces but: one of the stainless steel frying pans has a distorted base; none of the kitchen knives would cut; several plastic handles of the poor quality cutlery have separated from the metal inviting embedded dirt; the broken teapot lid is a health hazard.
• The BBQ is a small gas grill, which is not fit for purpose. First, the gas bottle was empty. Then, the valve was faulty so could not deliver adequate gas pressure. So, no BBQ.
• Difficult to regulate the water temperature and pressure from the showerheads. A more modern shower rose might solve the problems.
• No maid service but in the Tropics you need a midweek linen change
• Cleaning could be better: 2 long-dead roaches on the floor; kitchen cupboards a tad grubby.
Not being a cheap rental, we did not expect these probs.
If you are looking to relax this place is awesome. Buying fresh fish on the pier is a fun and delicious experience. The beach is very deep so it is important you are a good swimmer. No real grocery store around the rental. I suggest stopping at one in Pigeon point.
