A unique property with an interesting history. Comfortable rooms with so many en-suites, we comfortably accommodated our family of 8 adults, 6 children and a dog. Plenty of gastropubs nearby if you don’t want to cook in the large, well equipped kitchen. Great area for walks and a wide variety of games provided at the property. Definitely recommended.

Absolutely incredible stay.

We absolutely loved our stay at Trebarried Mill. The house is huge, and so comfortable. The kitchen was well-stocked, and the beds were very comfortable. We had incredible weather, so we spent lots of time on the patio, and hiking around the surrounding hills and villages. We would go back in an instant!

The property met our expectations, there was plenty of room for the family (7 adults and 3 children plus a baby). We had excellent weather and the children loved the lawned area with football nets. Our 6 year old grandson enjoyed learning to play table tennis and trying out the basketball net. The younger grandchildren enjoyed the space to run around and let off steam. Sitting out on the patio at night, we watched the bats and listened to the owls.

Perfect for large groups

As a group of 8 adults and 8 children, the house was perfect for our New Year get together and we had a wonderful time. The layout of the house is perfect for entertaining and the pool table was a big hit with the teenagers! Due to the time of the year we didn’t get to make use of the outside space but I’m sure it would be ideal in summer. Mike and Caroline were great hosts and were quick to answer any query we had on the lead up to our stay. Perfect New Year break!

Beautiful House!

12 of us came here earlier this month for my partners 21st birthday as a weekend away, we were blown away by the size of the house! It was clean, spacious and had everything we would need and more, even a pool table! Mike the owner was more than helpful, left us with loads of information about the house and things to do/places to eat in the area. We were so kindly left some little treats in the kitchen too :) Couldn't recommend this house enough for any occasion, we loved it so much we are all going back in December! Thanks Mike and family!

Very practical place

Nice spot in the hills but difficult to walk anywhere from the property because of a busy main road. The house itself if nice and roomy with good facilities but if you’re looking for fancy then this might not be the one. It’s a homely and fun social space. We went in the autumn which meant we couldn’t make full use of the outside spaces due to bad weather. Had we been able to I think we’d have had an even better time as the outside spaces look fantastic. The hearing was a slight issue as we couldn’t turn it off and the rooms were quite warm. Other than that no complaints.

Not sure why you could not control the heating as well as each side of the house having a thermostat which can be used to turn the heating down, there is also one on each of the radiators which have many settings including off. I did call Jonathan to check everything was ok but this was never mentioned.

Brilliant birthday celebrations

Lovely location, very spacious property with amazing spaces. Kitchen spacious and well equipped. Beds comfortable. bathrooms good. Great bonus as it wasn’t exactly “flaming June” was the snooker table, especially for the youngsters , there were many challenging matches! Outside facilities were great but because of the weather not uses apart from table tennis and basketball net. Plenty to see and do only a short drive away.

Fab family house

My family & I stayed at Trebarried Mill for a long weekend to celebrate my father-in-law's 80th birthday. We all had a wonderful time and felt very at home, relaxing and having fun as a big family gathering. The house was well equipped and had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay, relaxing and having fun as a big family gathering - all ages ranging from 5 years to 80 years. Mike & Caroline were very responsive to messages and very helpful when providing information about the local area and ideas about things for us to do. The house is in a remote location, which was lovely for us as it was very peaceful and beautiful. You will need cars if staying here, but there is ample parking at the property and it is a very short drive to many lovely local places and amenities. We loved our stay in this lovely old house, in such a beautiful and picturesque part of Wales.

The most amazing stay celebrating our dads 60th.

This property really is a little gem. Communication from the onset of booking until our stay was fantastic, so much advise on the local area. We did a beautiful waterfall walk with memories to last a lifetime. The house was so spacious to cater for our big family, lots of in-house entertainment to keep adults and teens busy as well as the toddlers. Very good facilities, kitchen had everything needed to entertain. The grounds of the mill are stunning. Thank you for a memorable stay. We can't wait to come back.

New year break

The property is well set out to give everyone enough space of their own having 3 bedrooms on one side of the house and 4 on the other with separate stair cases. The owners were extremely helpful before and during our stay recommending places of interest and walks for us to do. I would definitely stay here again!

Nice large house with good kitchen and patio in a good position but....

This could be an amazing property but is seriously in need of some love. Every room had cobwebs, weeds all over the patio, pool table with half the balls, kitchen lights with half the bulbs missing. When we arrived the cooker didn't work and the owner was good and got someone there the next day at 8.30 to fix it. We then thought would revert to the gas BBQ but that didn't give out enough heat. The next day one of our party took it apart fixed it and we cleaned it. There was also a step on the patio that needs some high viz paint as one of our party had a bad fall. The ceiling paint was off on our bathroom and there was no shower curtain so water went everywhere. Some flowers and some essential foods were left for us which was nice but is not a substitute for cleanliness and functioning equipment.

I would like to thank Helen for her comments, although I did not find them all relevant especially as they were made some 10 weeks after their stay. And would be shocked if they were shared by all the party who were having a great time and very complementary when I visited. Hob – the issue must have just arisen as it was working fine for the previous guests, I managed to get it repaired at 8:30 the next morning (not always easy at a weekend). Fortunately, the 3 ovens the were still working which they used for baked potatoes etc. We did offer that they could use an alternative Hob in the second kitchen which we use for storage however we were told they were fine as they were having a BBQ. Weeds - the 150 sq M patio, this is Raj sandstone, weeds do pop up in between the slabs despite being grouted. Weeds are pull up regularly, unfortunately we are unable to spray chemicals in the area as it is in a SSSI site of special scientific interest. Cobwebs – The Mill is a 3000sq ft property with lots of nooks, cranys and beams. I have no doubt there were cobwebs there during their stay, like dust they unfortunately come back so every time you clean you seem to find some. Kitchen lights – there are 17 lights in the kitchen 3 were not working and have been replaced. With only half of them switched on there is plenty of light in the kitchen Pool balls - All the pool balls are there today none have been replaced, I can only assume they were stuck in a pocket or similar. I could have sorted if I had been made aware. Shower curtain – in this en-suit there is a bath only, there is a shower head so people can use it whilst in the bath it is not a shower hence no curtain. Paint flaking - in one of the bathrooms, this was a small patch which has been touched up. Small step – this is at the end of the stone bridge which crosses the Mill Run from the kitchen to the patio. I was talking to the lady when she slipped, luckily she was fine in fact I am not sure she stopped talking. Having witnessed the slip I know Hi Viz paint would not have prevented it. BBQ - not giving out enough heat, I went to the Mill on the Friday night and the BBQ was working with a group of guys around it cooking away and other guests were eating the food, not a complaint in sight. We have not had an issue mentioned before or after from guests about the BBQ. Perhaps the problem might have been that when one of the party decided to “take it apart and fix it and clean it the next day” they did not put the coals back in which heat up to cook the food, hence it would not have worked properly. These were replaced when I spotted them in a bucket after their visit. I Found Helens comments cumulatively a bit negative but have actioned any appropriate. Mike

The house is lovely - spacious, comfortable, in good order, very well-equipped, nicely furnished, lots of charm, plenty of room for 21 of us, and everything we needed. The games and books and ping-pong table were appreciated. The patios and the wide lawn areas along the river are also well-kept and nice. The mill race gives a background of running water which is pleasant (and can be turned off for sleeping). The location is pretty, and near to some splendid countryside, but a disadvantage of the house for me is that it’s a short way down from a busy stretch of main road where cars are travelling at 70mph, and there’s no path at all that leads from the house, no access on foot to any walks, without walking along that busy road for half a mile - or getting in your car. Owners were helpful and communicative. A floor plan would be useful.

Hi Elizabeth thanks for your feedback. Your comments re the road are a bit extreme. The house is down a drive off the A438 @ 400m from a crossroads as can be seen on the map. Average speed is probably between 40 and 50 mph due to the proximity of the junction, although there are always exceptions as on any road.

A lovely getaway

A lovely large property and plenty of room for a group gathering. A well equipped kitchen and and warm welcome. A picturesque setting which the children enjoyed with plenty of space to run around. A clean and tidy house , comfy beds and all the amenities we could need.

I would like to thank Helen for her comments, although I did not find them all relevant especially as they were made some 10 weeks after their stay. And would be shocked if they were shared by all the party who were having a great time and very complementary when I visited. Hob – the issue must have just arisen as it was working fine for the previous guests, I managed to get it repaired at 8:30 the next morning (not always easy at a weekend). Fortunately, the 3 ovens the were still working which they used for baked potatoes etc. We did offer that they could use an alternative Hob in the second kitchen which we use for storage however we were told they were fine as they were having a BBQ. Weeds - the 150 sq M patio, this is Raj sandstone, weeds do pop up in between the slabs despite being grouted. Weeds are pull up regularly, unfortunately we are unable to spray chemicals in the area as it is in a SSSI site of special scientific interest. Cobwebs – The Mill is a 3000sq ft property with lots of nooks, cranys and beams. I have no doubt there were cobwebs there during their stay, like dust they unfortunately come back so every time you clean you seem to find some. Kitchen lights – there are 17 lights in the kitchen 3 were not working and have been replaced. With only half of them switched on there is plenty of light in the kitchen Pool balls - All the pool balls are there today none have been replaced, I can only assume they were stuck in a pocket or similar. I could have sorted if I had been made aware. Shower curtain – in this en-suit there is a bath only, there is a shower head so people can use it whilst in the bath it is not a shower hence no curtain. Paint flaking - in one of the bathrooms, this was a small patch which has been touched up. Small step – this is at the end of the stone bridge which crosses the Mill Run from the kitchen to the patio. I was talking to the lady when she slipped, luckily she was fine in fact I am not sure she stopped talking. Having witnessed the slip I know Hi Viz paint would not have prevented it. BBQ - not giving out enough heat, I went to the Mill on the Friday night and the BBQ was working with a group of guys around it cooking away and other guests were eating the food, not a complaint in sight. We have not had an issue mentioned before or after from guests about the BBQ. Perhaps the problem might have been that when one of the party decided to “take it apart and fix it and clean it the next day” they did not put the coals back in which heat up to cook the food, hence it would not have worked properly. These were replaced when I spotted them in a bucket after their visit. I Found Helens comments cumulatively a bit negative but have actioned any appropriate. Mike

Loved it. Great space for adults and kids. Photos didn’t do it justice!

Perfect spot for our family reunion. Spacious house that accommodated both adults and kids. Lots to do in the area. We had a holiday to remember.

Enough space just lacked in character

We needed a place to stay for our yearly family get together and this place looked perfect. On arriveal it was very clean and the beds were spotless and comfortable. But it lacked charm and character! The furniture was uncomfortable a mismatch and dated. The layout of the downstairs was just odd. No information pack and a lack of information regarding local walks. We was expecting to stay and walk directly from the cottage. Tv information and setup was poor. It's a big place but lacked any charm and that special touch. Just odd dated tired furniture. No soul , I'm sure this place could be better but for us it was a little drab and lacked TLC . I hope this review helps as the owner was very friendly and I'm sure this place could be really special. Until then we wouldnt return. Shame. But thank you for acomadating us and good luck.

This is a very different review that you your wife and children gave when I showed you around the property. If the part of the house which was a 17c mill does not have enough charm and character apologies you clearly have expectations we could not meet. There was and is an information pack and this and details of activities in the area were there on the coffee table including explanations of how the TVs work. This is also a very different review than was put in the visitors book. If furniture bought five mouths ago when we changed it from a family home to a rental property is dated and drab we clearly have different taste. You are the customer and therefore right. What riles me is I was called out on a Saturday night because you had no gas in the house which was incorrect as it was working fine and you never apologised for wasting my time. When you arrived your wife and children said it was amazing and your children commented are we really staying here. Not sure what happened in the next two days. The world is full of different people, Your comments and rating are so different from all those on this and other sites I find them very strange.

It is a beautiful place, very spacious and full of things for the youngsters to do .

My husband and I and our family of 8 adults plus our great granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here. Lovely, spacious house, rooms are very nice and comfy. The property is perfect for space and privacy when needed and fabulous communal entertaining spaces. The large dining table was great for breakfasts and dinners together. There are two main living areas which mean the adults and teenagers could have their own space. The house is generously stocked with games, DVD's and even a craft cupboard and the kitchen has everything by way of utensils, crockery, cutlery you would need to prepare and provide dinner for all of us. The house is so spacious that even the rain didn't deter all of us from making the most of it. Mike Harries, the owner is very approachable and gave us lots of information upon our arrival. There are lots of literature in the house to help us find our way about and around Brecon and surrounding areas with plenty to do and visit. The house is situated on the edge of the Brecon National Park and is a secluded detached rural property, with the ease of getting to all of our activities during our stay. Even our dog enjoyed his stay. Although lacking doggie walking tracks, the garden is so big and ample for him to do his own wandering. The best thing for him in the garden is the stream where he went swimming on his own every day. This property and the host did not disappoint and we could and would certainly recommend this place to anyone who wants a big family holiday.
