Visit historic houses and castles such as Glamis, birthplace of Queen Elizabeth 11s mother and Scone Palace, crowning place of the King of Scots. Ski at Glenshee, visit the Braemar Highland Games or Balmoral Castle, Scottish home of the Royal Family. Walk the coastal path and see the quaint villages of Crail or Pittenweem, take a picnic and swim at Lunan Bay 35 minutes away. Visit historic St Andrews and Perth or Dundee, home of Scott’s ship ‘Discovery’ and the visitor centre dedicated to his fated voyage to the Antarctic. THE CATERAN TRAIL - one of Scotland’s great trails, is a fully waymarked 64 mile route through Perthshire and the Angus glens. It follows old drove roads and ancient tracks. The Caterans were fearsome cattle thieves who raided the glens from the Middle Ages to the 17th century. (see a reference to the Battle of Saughs). Stage 4 of the 5 stages is nearest the cottage - Kirkton of Glenisla to Alyth. Take a diversion on your way back to the cottage to the Wee Bear cafe at Lintrathan or Peel Farm cafe near Lintrathan.
