Ein Traum an Ruhe
Ein tolles Haus, sehr gepflegt und lädt zum Verweilen ein. Wir haben zu dritt dort Urlaub gemacht. Platz genug , um auch mal alleine zu sein. Viele Eckchen und Möglichkeiten. Alles in einem- eine echte Oase der Ruhe. Dies hat natürlich zur Folge, dass man von einem Auto abhängig ist. Wenn man das letzte Stück zum Haus zweimal gefahren ist, wird es zur Gewohnheit.
Wie es schon angekündigt ist, ist dieses Traumhaus rein gar nichts für Menschen , die viel Kommunikation benötigen.
Die Vermieter sind super nett. Helfen wo sie nur können.
Ich persönlich empfehle die Massage zu buchen. Einfach genial in den eigenen vier Wänden massiert zu werden.
Was gibt es noch? Fernglas und Kamera nicht vergessen.
Wer sich traut sollte diese mit aufs Kanu nehmen.

Amazing getaway with amazing hosts
Jim and Heidi were easy to communicate with during the booking process and we wonderful hosts. We were greeted with kindness and treated to a well stocked refrigerator and local liquor. They provided a Blue Book full of information and places to visit. If you are looking for a quiet place to get away and would appreciate a perfectly appointed home with a private pool on a river, this is the place for you!

Well appointed villa in relaxing location
Villa had everything we needed for a relaxing break and made a good base for exploring other areas eg Coimbra. Car is essential as villa is about 1km down a track but the lack of rowdy clubs etc more than makes up for this. Lovely welcome pack of goodies including beer and wine. Nice clean pool and use of rowing boats and open kayaks for the river - made use of these! Lots of indoor and outdoor space for 6 people but be aware of steps if taking immobile granny with you. The owners live next door and were very welcoming and excellent at communication with us before and during the stay. Definitely felt that should anything have gone wrong they would have been on to it straight away. All in all a great place to stay.
Our second amazing stay at River Island!
This was our second year staying at River Island and it was just as good as ever.
You can read our first review still so I will just add a further few comments. James and Heidi are amazing hosts and could not have done more to make our stay more enjoyable - thanks!
The swimming area at the river beach just down from the villa has been tidied up considerably and is even nicer, with some new facilities and a new diving board. Make sure you take the time to row or kayak there for drinks or ice creams!
We did a few excursions this year. Some our our favourites from last year like Gois and Aveiro/Costa Nova, and we also tried new ones like Tomar. I can highly recommend you make the trip to Tomar. So much incredible history, and we took one of the Tuk Tuk tours from the main square which was fun and informative and the kids loved it!
All in all another amazing week at River Island!
Beautifully secluded location in a gorgeous part of Portugal
A really well-appointed villa with very spacious rooms and direct access to the river. Generous welcome pack and additional larder / honesty box which was incredibly useful. James & Heidi are very welcoming and on hand to provide helpful information about the surrounding area which is a largely untouched region full of natural beauty. The river bar was lovely to either kayak or stroll to for a drink and ridiculously cheap! The local supermarket was an easy drive. We spotted kingfishers when we were out on the river and our teenage boys made the most of swimming in the river upstream. Thank you Heidi and James.
Beautiful villa
We have just returned back from 2 weeks here and we had a brilliant time! James and Heidi were friendly and happy to help with anything. The blue book they leave in the house is full of information that gave us some great days out.
The highlight for us was having the use of a rowing boat and kayaks to sail down to the local river bar.
Would highly recommend this villa, it is a beautiful house and has everything you could need.
Lage
Dies ist ein Gebiet, bekannt für seine klaren Flüssen und Seen (die beste Strecke Fluss schwimmen führt direkt vorbei an der Villa), fast tropisch warm im Sommer - weit wärmer (und sicherer) als das offene Meer. Einige haben Strände mit Café / Restaurant; andere, die Sie vielleicht ganz für sich, auch im Sommer. Es ist ein reines Vergnügen in diesen warmen Wasser zu schwimmen, umgeben von Natur.
Andere Dinge zu tun: Kajak / Boot auf dem Fluss; schöne Wanderungen und Fahrten durch die Hügel und die "verlorenen" Bergdörfer; 'Portugal Pequinitos' - ein Fantasy-Modell Dorf mit Portugals großen Gebäude in Miniatur, aber immer noch groß genug, um durch zu gehen, und bescheidenere Häuser nur zugänglich für Kinder; Conimbriga - die alte römische Hauptstadt mit einigen der besten Mosaiken in Europa; Weltkulturerbe Tomar, eine schöne Altstadt mit Templer Schloss und Kloster; Pferde-Reiten; Open-Air-Zoo und Bauernhof Zoo; Gondelfahrten auf den Kanälen von Aveiro;
Reise:
Porto ist etwa 1 Stunde 45 Minuten, Lissabon etwa 2 Stunden, und es ist die Autobahn die meisten der Weg. Es gibt preiswerte Flüge von mehreren Flughäfen in Großbritannien und Dublin, und aus anderen nordeuropäischen Ländern.
Entfernungen:
Die nächsten Geschäfte / Restaurants sind c. 8 Minuten mit dem Auto. Die mittelalterliche Universitätsstadt Coimbra, Landeshauptstadt und Portugal die drittgrößte Stadt, ist c. 25 Min. Weltkulturerbe Tomar ist auch c. 45 Min. Die römischen Ruinen von Conimbriga (mit einigen der am besten erhaltenen Mosaiken in Europa) sind c. 30 Minuten. Reitställe, einen Zoo und große Strandbad sind alle etwa 15 Minuten mit dem Auto. Lousã Castle, in einer von Portugals führenden Schönheitsflecken, ist etwa 10 Minuten.
Herrliche grüne Landschaft befindet sich direkt vor der Haustür.
Weitere Details:
Restaurants sind erstaunlich kostengünstig und dienen riesige Portionen. Die besseren haben Menüs in Englisch. Der Wein ist absurd billig und sehr trinkbar. Englisch und Französisch sind weit verbreitet.
Die Einheimischen sind sehr freundlich, die Straßen leer. Das ist die wahre Portugal, nicht eine Abzocke Touristen-Ghetto! Sie werden nach Hause zurückkehren, fragen, warum dieses Paradies besser ist nicht bekannt, aber sehr froh, dass es nicht ist!
