We spent an amazing holiday in Sicily and visited Catania, Acicastello, Acitrezza, Giardini Naxos, Taormina, etc. We stayed in this apartment located in Recanati which is the residential area of Giardini Naxos.
We learnt that Giardini Naxos is the first Greek settlement in Sicily and went to the archaeological park. We then were thrilled by the Greek theatre in Taormina.
The apartment is very nice, fully furnished including washing machine, with air conditioning and a large terrace..
It is big enough, clean and offers a wonderful view of Etna. We were able to relax, have dinner in the terrace, and read in a peaceful atmosphere. We also enjoyed sitting outside in local bars and ordering an "aperitif" or having a Sicilian granita with brioche.
It is 5 minutes from the beach and one of the most beautiful seas of Italy.
We found very handy the local shuttle which takes you in 20 minutes to Taormina.
We were impressed by the availability and friendly attitude of the owner and housekeeper.
When needed we could contact them and be promptly supported.
We hope to come back to Sicily soon and we recommend this lovely flat.
We had a lovely week in Ragusa and had high expectations from the previous reviews for this apartment for our second week. It is large and there is easy parking but we found the flat grubby and really in need of a facelift. We had to clean items in the kitchen before we could use them and shower curtain etc needs replacing! It is in a rather depressing block of flats that seemed to be largely empty. There were no contact numbers for help if needed and we had a power cut in our flat which was stressful to resolve. There was no advice or suggestions of what to visit in the area left by the owner. Naxos had little to recommend it and would stay in the much nicer Taormina next time we visit. Good base to get to Etna from but it remained in cloud most of our visit so we didnt even get the views!!!
6 weeks stay Oct/Nov 2013
We have no doubt that we had one of the best holidays of our lives in this holiday apartment. It was a novel departure for us to book for 6 weeks at a 3rd floor apartment but it proved to be a superb choice. The apartment, which is in a quiet residential area of Giardini Naxos, has one large bedroom and a comfortable double bed. Sofa beds offer more sleeping accommodation in the very spacious lounge/dining room. The kitchen is comfortable to work in and is very well equipped with a new fridge/freezer. Storage cupboards are adequate. The electric oven and gas hob were very efficient. A small electric kettle and toaster are provided as is a selection of good cookware, kitchen knives and table cutlery. The bathroom has an excellent shower with plenty of towels. An ironing board and iron are provided. The bedroom has large hanging and storage space. There is a television in the bedroom and TV, DVD player as well as CD player in the lounge.
The very best bit is that the lounge and large balcony gives tremendous views of Mount Etna. We sat for many a morning or evening at the patio table drinking our wine and watching the changing faces of the mountain in sunlight and cloud. Our most privileged moments came on the several occasions that Etna began an eruption. Twice we sat up for hours in the night to watch the sheer spectacle of fiery magma shooting high in the air with lava bombs so big that from 40 km away we could see and photograph them. Large windows also offer grand views from the apartment.
There is an efficient lift to the apartment floor and more than ample car parking space in a gated and electronically locked courtyard.
The apartment is 10 mins walk from the bustling promenade of Giardini Naxos with the wide sweep of the bay and the sandy beach with safe swimming.
There a multitude of shops, bars and restaurants. Although many are shut by late October enough remain open to satisfy anyone. A few minutes’ drive away on the old road to Freddo Fiume is a large supermarket and many shops. Eating out we particularly enjoyed a meal at restaurant Pippinas’, ‘Old Sea Dog’. The promenade road takes you to Taormina and beyond to the delightful hill villages of the D’Agro Valley. Forza D’Agro etc. Taormina is a must to explore and the Greek/Roman Theatre is the jewel. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring, drinking coffee, wine and eating snacks and e-mailing etc. at Bistro Cape Diem just outside the
