Casa do Ananas ist ein großes Anwesen auf über 279 m2 Grundfläche und wurde mit 2 Ensuite-Badezimmern, offener Küche und Esszimmer mit großer, die Bucht von Lajes überblickender Terrasse in hoher Spezifikation erbaut. Alle Schlafzimmer verfügen über Satellitenfernsehen, sowie auch die Küche. Das Erdgeschoss umfasst ein großes, offenes Wohnzimmer, Fernseher, ein weiteres Doppelschlafzimmer und einen Duschraum. Der Patiobereich auf der Vorderseite des Anwesens ist durch Doppeltüren zugänglich. Das Anwesen genießt ein Grundstück von großzügiger Größe mit Blick aufs Meer. Das Ferienhaus auf mehren Etagen verfügt über externe, terrassierte Gärten, einen großen 17 x 8 m Swimmingpool und Sonnenterrasse.

Fantastic Location Great Stay!

From the moment we arrived, we had a great time. The house was very well stocked and in a great location. Every morning I would take a 5 mile run on the trail around the corner from the house. It was close to a natural swimming pool which was perfect for the family. We also enjoyed using the pool and grill setup at the house. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Beautiful home, great location

This property is gorgeous! Tons of space and very close to Lajes for supplies. Would recommend as a home base for exploring the island. Had to supply our own paper products but that's noted by the property owner. James was very kind and easy and quick to communicate. Thanks again for letting us enjoy your home.

Pico Island Silveria

The house is lovely, well appointed and spacious. Walking path was accessible from ocean side and ocean swimming area very close. James was super accommodating and informative. Weather was not swimming weather but sitting poolside with a book and a glass of wine soaking in the evening rays and listening to the ocean waves crashing was most enjoyable.

Amazing holiday at La Casa do Ananas

We had a wonderful stay at La Casa do Ananas which is without any doubt the best holiday house we ever rented. The house architecture is stunning and fits perfectly in its environment. Sleeping rooms and bathrooms are spacious and extremely well equipped, just as the kitchen where everything you need is at your disposal. Outside our kids enjoyed the large swimming pool a lot with its beautiful views on the sea and the mount Pico. At 5 minutes from the house you can take a boat to observe the wonders of the Atlantic Ocean, we were lucky enough to see whales, 3 different species of dolphins and sea turtles! Our stay and the house both deserves a 5 stars rating, if I could I would certainly give a sixth one! Lastly, many thanks to James and Edna for your kindness and professionalism, you are great hosts and we are much looking forward to returning to La Casa do Ananas soon again! Thomas

Spacious clean house, with great pool area in lovely location on a beautiful island.

We stayed six nights, due to flight restrictions and very much enjoyed our time. We particularly enjoyed the space, the veranda, the pool are with barbecue and oven and the closeness to the sea/swimming area. There were a couple of minor frustrations - the bed configuration was not as described on Owner's Direct, it took a little while to find the light switches for the outside lights, there were very few household supplies left in the house necessitating an additional shopping trip to restock the property. Also the TV/DVD in the lounge was not working - but we did not miss it. These things prevent a 5* rating! WiFi was better than at home! We would consider a car essential when staying here.

Hello Fiona thank you for staying with us and your kind review. Whilst we haven't had queries relating to the outside lights before, we will ensure we explain how these switch when we speak with future guests. I believe the bed arrangements were rectified quickly. I do apologies however. I had understood that the booking was for 6 adults. We will ensure we ask guests in the future in advance to confirm the configuration of the twin beds in Bedroom 3. The property is self-catering. Guests do need to ensure they take provisions with them for the stay. There is a catering option however this is not standard, and we would need to know in advance so it could be priced accordingly.

Yes, it does exist! Breathtaking house on Pico Island.

Looking for places to stay on Pico Island, I thought, like someone else wrote in their review, this was too good to be true. But it is actually very much like in the pictures on the profile, and then some! Apart from the beauty of it, you can tell how thoughtfully this accomodation has been planned. Starting from the detailed and informative description on the profile and in the house book, the navigation instructions, the easy check in (key box) and - not to forget - the kind and helpful contact to the owners and their local family/staff that keep the property in shape. The house itself is situated in Silveira, about a 5 minute drive (yes, you absolutely need a car!) from Lajes, the local ex whalers village. You're right on the edge, directly next to the sea, maybe 100 meters away from an easily accessible bathing site (recommended at high tide). You can hear the sea and the Cory's Shearwater (owa ow ow). There is a hotel and restaurant in walking distance that we didn't visit. The layout of the house and pool area is extremely spacious. 2 rooms with A/C in an almost hotel-like configuration with personal bathrooms and 1 room for 2 people with an adjacent bathroom. A huge covered balcony with sea view and lounge furniture. The living room with 2 nice sofas and a big TV and internet router. A great pool deep enough to dive in with a relax and barbecue area. A kitchen with all the good stuff and a washer/dryer. More than enough (pool) towels! Hope to come back!!

Sehr schöner Aufenthalt, das Haus ist wunderschön und alles sehr großzügig. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Lediglich der Pool war etwas verdreckt aufgrund eines vorherigen Sturmes und der Kühlschrank nicht gereinigt, was aber keine große Sache war und der Gastgeber direkt darauf reagierte und jemanden zur Reinigung schickte. Wir würden jedem diese Ferienunterkunft empfehlen.

Traumhafte Unterkunft

Wir haben den Aufenthalt in der Casa do Ananas sehr genossen. Die Unterkunft ist ideal für eine Gruppe von 3 Pärchen so wie wir es waren. Es hat an nichts gemangelt, sehr gut ausgestattete Küche, toller Poolbereich mit Grill und Pizzaofen und auch sonst eine sehr hochwertige Austattung. Wir können das Haus uneingeschränkt emphelen. Auch die Kommunikation mit dem Vermieter ist top. Danke für einen wunderschönen Urlaub!!!!

Wunderschönes Haus mit Meerblick und toller Ausstattung

Dies ist ein wunderschönes, grosszuegiges Haus, das sehr schön und geschmackvoll möbliert ist. Die Kueche ist sehr gut und vollständig ausgestattet, man hat Geschirrspüler, alle erdenklichen Küchengeräte, Waschmaschine und Trockner. Es ist hell und viel Platz. Die Bäder sind groß und das Anwesen war sauber. Der einzige Wehrmutstropfen war der sehr veralgte Pool, den wir leider nicht nutzen konnten. Daher kann ich leider keine volle Punktzahl geben. Das Haus ist ein Urlaubstraum und wir werden es noch einmal mit sauberem Pool besuchen.

Schöne Lage mit Einschränkungen

Das Haus entspricht im Großen und Ganzen der Beschreibung. Leider findet man nirgends den Hinweis darauf, dass die 50m entfernte Strandbar auch nachts geöffnet hat. Hierdurch kam es zu massiver Lärmbelästigung durch laute Musik und laut feiernde Gäste, dies bis in die frühen Morgenstunden (5:00 Uhr). Trotz geschlossener Fenster war schlafen unmöglich. Nach einer Woche Aufenthalt sind wir entnervt abgereist. Die Kommunikation mit dem Vermieter war insofern in Ordnung, dass auf unsere Anfrage nach dem fehlenden Toaster und einer separaten Bettdecke (im Doppelbett gibt es nur eine gemeinsame große Decke) schnell geantwortet wurde. Allerdings sollten wir dann das Toast im Ofen toasten??? Wie wäre es bei dem Mietpreis mal mit einem neuen Toaster??? Handtücher waren auch zu wenige da, die Sauberkeit im Haus war auch gerade noch akzeptabel. Da wir seit Jahren Häuser über FEWO mieten und im übrigen von anderen Vermietern als Gäste mit 5 Sternen bewertet wurden, sind wir bestimmt keine nörgelnden Mieter aber in diesem Fall können wir einfach keine bessere Bewertung abgeben. Wer Ruhe und Abgeschiedenheit sucht, sollte sich nach etwas anderem umsehen.

Michael, thank you for your comments which are a complete surprise. We take professional and personal pride in renting our home in Pico to guests so I will respond in detail. We list as speaking English and Portuguese. I am not a German speaker but have asked a friend to translate. It is good to know that the description on the house met with your expectation. You did request access to the house before 2pm however we were not able to offer this as guests were check out the same day. I hope you understand, and that this didn't cause you concerns. We always oblige requests for early check in, later check out if we can. We arrived the day after you left and have been here for nearly 3 weeks. Not once has any noise from the bar been noticeable, let alone has it caused us to be unable to sleep or to feel nervous. Different people sleep in different patters of course but we have not have this type of comment before. Quite the opposite. Theses delightful summer snack bars and restaurants are regulated. We checked with the town hall and our neighbours who are adjacent to Bar da Fonte & no complaints have been made. We tried to ring you on the mobile you provided 3 times but no answer. We ask for a mobile as we like to call guests when they check in to answer in person any questions. Our only communication was by email and the issue with the bar was not mentioned once. You mentioned that there wasn't sufficient towels or linen. We charge the same for 1 or 6 guests. Towels and linen was sufficient based on 5 people you disclosed would be staying. The toaster had broken just before your arrival. We toast bread in the oven at home but this appears to have caused concern for you. In any event, the toaster is now replaced. Please note no increase in the rental rate for this. You conclude by advising that it is not normal for you to post what to our ears is a very disappointing review. The review is one which is entirely out of keeping for the 12 years we have been renting out Casa do Ananas and is not normal based on the 400+ guests we have been delighted to have hosted. I am sorry that you did not have a more restful stay. Your comments are not the experience and feedback we get from guests. When we get feedback we like to use the opportunity to improve the experience but in this case it is not possible to do this.

Fantastisches Haus, herrliche Insel

Das Haus ist sehr grosszügig und komfortabel und lässt eigentlich keine Wünsche offen. Trotz etwas durchzogenem Wetter im Oktober liebten wir die wilde Insel mit ihrer wunderschönen Landschaft sehr. Natur pur und nur wenige Menschen und noch weniger Touristen. Der Kontakt zu den Eigentümern war gut und herzlich.

Great house close to the sea

The house is clean, comfortable and big enough for 6people (3 bedrooms each with double or two single beds). It has a very nice garden and a huge swimmingpool, which we used every day. Communication with James before and during our stay was always easy and he was answering very quickly. There is a key box at the house, so arriving or leaving the house is possible whenever you want (and if possible and agreed in advance also earlier check in or late check out is possible). It's a Little bit hard to find the house, but we got a very precise description and so it was easy to find it. You definitly need a car, but this was clear to us in advance. The house is well equipped (e.g. washing machine and dryer). There are also enough towels for everyone. Only thing which was a little bit negative (was also already mentioned in another review), is that there was not enough toilet paper. Of course it is not expensive to buy it, but in this category of house, it would be really appreciated, if enough toilet paper and maybe some tabs for the dish washer are there. The house is situated close to Lajes (just 10min by car) where you can find a Supermarket and also some companies in the Harbour that offer whale watching, etc. Close to the house (~100-200m walking distance) are nice natural pools. Directly in front of the house there are stairs to the sea. In the evening you can see bats flying around the house. We could fully recommend this house. It was really nice to stay there! Einzigartig, viel Erholung

Wir haben den Aufenthalt sehr genossen, uns hat es an nichts gefehlt. Es ist ein Problem mit der Dusche aufgetreten und die Vermieterin hat sofort reagiert und das Problem wurde behoben. Wir haben tolle Tipps für die Umgebung erhalten. Die Nähe zum Hafen von Lajes do Pico ist ein Plus. Unsere Kinder haben den Pool geliebt. Nachts kann man kleine Fledermäuse beobachten, wie sie um das Haus fliegen.

Super Haus

Das Haus ist sehr geräumig, komfortabel und gut ausgestattet sowie ruhig und günstig für viele Aktivitäten gelegen. Voraussetzung ist natürlich ein Auto. Das Haus ist uneingeschränkt für Leute, die Komfort und viel Platz wünschen, zu empfehlen.

Thanks for the review which translates to English as; The House is very spacious, comfortable and well equipped, and quiet and situated conveniently for many activities. Prerequisite is, of course, a car. The House is unrestricted for people who want comfort and plenty of space to recommend.

A propriedade perfeita

A Casa do Ananás é uma propriedade fantástica. Tem tudo o que possa necessitar para ter umas férias tranquilas e com o maior conforto. O proprietário foi muito atencioso. A localização é excelente. Recomendo com certeza. E provavelmente voltarei ao Pico e à Casa do Ananás.

5 Days on Pico Island- September 2019

You don’t get a more beautiful property than this. Lovely large house, beautiful gardens. The photos don’t do it justice. My only concerns were because the islands are very humid, there was a very off putting odor in the house. I’m assuming it was mildew in the air. So much moisture on these islands. It helps to open all the doors and let the fresh air blow through. This helps with the smell. However, there are no window or patio door screens, therefore lots of bugs (even lizards) come in the house when the doors are open. During our vacation we stayed in a property on another island This home had a dehumidifier which helped a lot with the mildew odor. (Note: there was no visible mildew) I would suggest to be more comfortable that the owners supply a portable dehumidifier. Possibly install window screens and ceiling fans would be a major plus. It gets very hot and humid. There is no air conditioning. When you’re from a dry climate and not used to humidity, this is very uncomfortable. Other than that, like I mentioned, a very beautiful property in a beautiful location. Enjoy!

Casa do Ananas is the long time dream of husband and wife Edna and James. We bought the land 23 years ago. We spent the 5 years seeking development consent and getting the design just right to satisfy ourselves (and the planners). The house was completed in 2009.
Edna was born on the island and, whilst we now live in the UK, she remains at heart an Acorean. The whole island is really one extended family and our times on Pico are always fully of family fun. This project is intended to provide a retreat for our family but also to pay for itself by being rented out.
Acoreans are very welcoming and our family on the island will make every effort to ensure that our guests return to their homes far afield with fond memories and strong recommendations.
We do hope to attract people who want to see the real Acores.

The land was purchased in 2001. We completed the property in 2009 and have listed with ownersdirect from the start.

Edna was born on the island so there was only ever going to be one location for our place abroad!
We spent 5 months looking for the right location; just the right blend of, views, proximity to the sea, remoteness and proximity to Lajes for the convenience of shops, restaurants and bars.

The Acores, and in particular Pico, are unspoilt. We often hear people remarking about how laid back the lifestyle is.
I love swimming off the coast looking at all the fish and maritime life which abounds. On rough days the swimming pool has to suffice; a tough life.
Our family includes Jack aged 16. He loves the water and we often spend a late afternoon fishing for crabs and small fish in the rock pools.
For us it was important that a restaurant and bar were within easy walking distance. We go to Pico to relax. The first few days are spent unwinding and unpacking.
Many of our guests report seeing dolphins and the occasional whale playing in the bay in front of the house. As I get terribly sea sick this is as close to whale watching as can get!
