Sport und Abenteuer
Overall, our 2 week stay at Chalet Lilia was excellent. Carmen went out of her way to help us after our late arrival, and this was very much appreciated. The chalet was very clean and matched it's description to a T. The 82 steps deserve a mention and are not for the faint hearted. Not having a designated parking place was a worry beforehand but this along with the steps proved not to be a problem for 2 relatively fit fifty somethings. The views from the chalet, and the lake and its surrounding quaint villages are stunning, best viewed on foot or from the water. We enjoyed Tremezzo, Varenna, Bellagio and Como itself. Villa Carlotta and Villa Balbinello are worth a visit, and a boat trip on the lake is a must. Day trips by train from Como to Milan and Bergamo were undertaken and enjoyed. This was fairly easy to organize and the prices very reasonable, with ALL trains clean, air conditioned and on time. We used the car to tour the lakeside and the surrounding mountainous areas - a coffee and stroll along the front at Porlezza, and the views of lake Lugano from Lanzo d'Intelvi were worth the effort. Downside - no village shop and the mozzies - but the mosquitoes have to be expected next to a lake. However, in saying this, the peace, tranquility, weather, views and friendly neighbours more than made up for any shortcomings. Diolch yn fawr (Molto grazie) Carmen!
Outstanding views, comfortable accommodation
It really is as good as it looks! After a two week stay with mixed weather we enjoyed lounging in shade in the garden, eating on the balcony and gazing at the ferries, sea planes, stars and the ever changing view. Lots to do nearby and Switzerland only a zip across an interesting hill road! Carmen was a delightful and most helpful host. Internet access most useful. Truly relaxing but renting a boat, swimming in the lake, exploring in the hills above Pigra the area offers endless possibilities and Chalet Lilia offers a most comfortable, thoughtfully designed base. We intend to return.
And we are waiting for you dear Alison and husband! I deeply appreciated your kindness and enthusiasm. It is a joy for us to have such nice guests! Come back as soon as possible. I spoke to my daughter describing how pleasant persons you two are and she was really happy in hearing how much you enjoyed your stay. So dear, receive a big huh from Carmen an Lilia
Lovely peaceful place with amazing view
The house is cute and cozy but the best about it is the view from the balcony and garden. We had a wonderful stay due to the peaceful atmosphere (not crowded with tourists but rather inhabited by elderly taking care of their buitiful gardens and balconies). We cycled around and enjoyed a drink or bite in Bellagio, Memaggio and some of the other places at the lake. The host Carmen was very accommodating and nice. The place was clean and everything was as described. It might not be the most fancy place in terms of equipment and furniture but that's not what we came for anyway. The BBQ worked fine and we enjoyed the evenings when we could see the colours of the lake and villages change during sun set. We really recommend lake Como and this house in particular for all that like to have a peaceful place in a beautiful setting of the lake surrounded by old authentic villages.
La dolce Vita!
This is a beautiful old chalet in the heart of old Brienno. You have to climb a lot of stairs to get to the chalet, but once you're there, the view is awesome! It is very well located in relation to other Villas and Bellagio is just 10 minutes with the ferry from another village close by. Host was very helpful and gave us a loy of information on the village. Overall a pleasant stay. Will rent again. Many thanks
Owners went above and beyond
This was a sweet little getaway with a wonderful view, and the owners are lovely.
The apartment itself is on two stories. It is quite compact - on the bottom, a little kitchen, table and sitting bench behind the table, which doubles as somewhere to sleep. On the top is a airy bedroom and the bathroom. Outside is a balcony and there is a garden below. The views are fantastic. As a note for anyone with small children - you will have to keep an eye on them outside as the railings have gaps that kiddies could easily pass through. It felt very private and quiet (except for the standard church bells).
The apartment is up a large set of stairs from the street, so be prepared to lift your luggage. There is generally parking in the village below - there was only one time we could not find parking during a week's stay (Saturday night). The location is convenient - a pretty short drive to the bigger towns that have more of the attractions. Wifi is extra.
The owners were great. We left a wallet behind and they made a heroic effort to try to return it to us - eventually mailing some contents to North America!
