Amazing stay on the rim of the canyon

Our stay with Dove's Rest Cabins was about as close to perfect as anywhere we have stayed! The luxury cabin had everything we needed and was the best location for viewing and visiting the cabin.

We had a wonderfully windy stay atop the canyon rim. The house was as described with the exception of the white room, which is actually a converted garage and a bit dark. Cleverly themed though, loved Cream.

Beautiful view, home.

Beautiful home. Gorgeous view, which is not fully appreciated by the photos online. It is rather secluded (which we liked.) The ‘White Room’ was very fun. The beds were very comfortable. The only suggestions I would make are to have more dish towels and a few more rugs. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub and the soothing showers, but the tile floors were extremely slippery if treading with wet feet. Thank you!

Thanks for your feedback Beth, we have tried having rugs in the cabin however they get ruined very quickly and hard to keep clean. We were hoping the door mat at the sliding door for outside entrance and shower mats in each bathroom would eliminate the issue of wet feet on the tile. In regard to the kitchen towels and cloths - the cleaner would have noted a one night stay so only left one set of two dry towels and one dish cloth. Sorry about that and I will point out to them to look at the total number of guests as well as nights staying.

Beautiful house over Looking the Canyon. Everything was first rate! Welcomed by a beautiful bottle of Champagne 😊 10 minutes from the canyon park. 100 miles long second largest following the Grand canyon. Also a live musical about the history of Texas. If I could give 10 stars I would. We will all be coming back! My Aunt and Uncles-had a wonderful stay. My Aunti Lora turned 79.

Dove’s Delight

This place was a dream come true! From the moment we arrived until our departure, we lived in the lap of luxury. If I could give this 100 stars I would. The beds were so comfortable with fluffy pillows and soft linens. Both bathrooms were wonderful with excellent shower heads, and we appreciated the cozy bathrobes. The kitchen and living room were fantastic. I especially loved the sofa that overlooked the porch and canyon view. The view was breathtaking at sunset and equally so in the morning. This is my favorite VRBO stay ever. I’m already trying to see if we can revisit Dove’s Rest on our way home.

Beautiful location but overwhelming burned wood smell

Apparently, the previous renters did not open the flue when using the fireplace, so the entire house along with the bedding, towels, and furniture smelled like burned hickory. Everyone who entered the house immediately commented on the overwhelming smell. After showering, our hair smelled like hickory after being dried with the towels. The robes were high quality and soft but smelled so badly we couldn't enjoy using them. The stone on the fireplace was completely covered in soot that would come off on our hands when we touched it. When we arrived home, our personal items that were hanging on the doors or laid on the table surfaces needed to be cleaned to get rid of the burned wood smell. We had to purchase our own toiletpaper, trash sacks, and paper towels as the supply provided was very limited. The house was beautiful and the view was amazing but I would hesitate to stay there again due to the extremely overbearing smell of burned wood.

Hi Shawna, Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay, we do struggle sometimes regarding the open fireplaces due to guests lighting and having fires the size of bonfires. Removing the smell is difficult at times, we are looking at removing all open fires due to this situations and replacing with electric units. In regard to purchasing your own amenities, we provide two trash bags in the trash can and another two under the sink with the dish pods, there was one roll of paper towels on the counter and again another under the sink. Toilet paper is also located in the cabinets above the toilet in the bathrooms. If you run short we provided an onsite contact number in your information to reach out for any additional products or linen if needed as we are on site 24/7.

Wonderful!

I stayed here with two of my girlfriends and the place was perfect. We each had a very comfortable room, the views were amazing, the hot tub hit the spot after long days of hiking, and the kitchen was well stocked with all kinds of pots pans and gadgets for cooking. All that and the entrance to the park was just a 10 minute drive from the house.

Amazing Experience!

What an amazing experience, we have travelled to Canyon multiple times but this was our first Doves Rest experience. The house was exactly like the pictures - it was clean, well stocked and had some extra perks we weren’t expecting! We will be booking again for future trips!

Jeff Means is the founder and manager of Doves Rest Cabins. He’s an experienced business professional with a 30+ year career in the hospitality & tourism industry. He has overseen countless event executions and destination/resort marketing efforts. He has personally led groups to over 50-countries and worked closely with resorts and hotels to enhance the guests stay and overall experience. He has traveled to every continent except Antarctica, and almost every state/province in the U.S., Mexico and Canada. During his career he has been to many interesting places such as, the Sahara Desert, Amazon River, Great Barrier Reef, Moscow, Marrakesh, Transylvania, Kenai Peninsula, and the Alps from every country, plus most of the Caribbean Islands. Jeff’s sister lives in New Zealand who he visits occasionally. Interestingly, she has several successful vacation home rentals projects in New Zealand, Australia and Argentina!

Jeff is also an author and accomplished writer. His extensive travels have given him a unique view about the world and the cultures in which we live. His curiosity about world and human origins led him to write his debut novel, Entity of Origin. Jeff was born and raised in Northern California but has called Texas home since 1989.

Palo Duro Canyon State Park with its Technicolor walls make for high-desert scenery more commonly seen in southern Utah. It offers more than 30-miles of hiking, mountain-biking and equestrian trails and an additional 1,500 acres set aside for horseback riding.
You can bring your own horses so don’t hesitate to ask us about local boarding.

Mountain bikers can experience the best single track in Texas and will enjoy the well maintained five trail heads networking for some 26-miles throughout the canyon ranging from "mild" to "wild" in technical ability - dirt, rocks, river rock, sand, wash-outs, switchbacks, drop-offs and climbs with alternative trail accesses throughout.

During the summer, enjoy a performance of the outdoor musical drama TEXAS. The play, nearing a half-century in its on-going production runs Tuesdays through Sundays, June through August, at the 1,700 seat Pioneer Amphitheater. Watch the stories, struggles and triumphs of early settlers. The family-friendly show has singing, dancing, fireworks and lots of Texas humor.

It’s Southern & Quahada Comanche (the most powerful & ruthless Indian tribes in American history), Kiowa, and Cheyenne and Arapaho territory. During their time, around 150-years ago, millions of Buffalo made this land their home and Palo Duro Canyon was a retreat for these nomad Indians - hunters of Buffalo. Chief Quanah Parker, the last of the Quahada Comanche warriors, fought the battle of Palo Duro Canyon not more than 20-miles east from Doves Rest in September 1874. It brought an official end to the U.S./Indian wars and the eventual peace that finally allowed settlers to occupy this last remaining freedom-outpost of “uncivilized” land in North America.
