Horrible communication with owner
We flew from South Carolina and arrived at the San Jose airport at 10:50, so did not get to the condo until around midnight Wednesday night. The check in instructions gave a code to the door...that didn't work! The check in instructions also gave a number to call if the door code didn't work (this obviously happens often). I called the number 7 times and left a message and text. I received no answer and no response. I messaged the VRBO owner through the app. I received no response until the next morning around 8 am. I had my 82 and 83 year old parents with me, so this was extremely dangerous and frustrating! I had to search for another hotel and it took 5 hotels because it was Spring Break for a lot of schools in the area. We finally found a hotel in Santa Cruz around 1:30 am (our body time 4:30 am) and I had to pay for 2 hotel rooms.When the owner responded the next day around 9 am, she also sent me a lockbox code for a lockbox on the handrail outside the condo, "just in case the door lock does not work". The door lock is obviously a frequent issue. The owner should have given the lockbox code in the check in instructions if she does not want to answer the phone at night. If you own/operate a VRBO, you must have someone who can respond to emergencies assist with check-in issues. The owner told me she would refund Wednesday night (this was last week, April 16). She said it would take a few days. I have yet to receive a refund.
