Best stay ever!
Casa Catalina was a great rental! Unlike other experiences we've had, this rental was bigger, roomier, and better in person than in the pics. From the pics, thought the pool was too small, but it wasn't. It was a nice size for a comfortable swim! It made for great evening and night swims after the beach, especially since it was well lit around the pool. The location was fantastic! We loved the beach that was just across the street and a little bit over. Also Arashi Beach just a bit further North, could walk there, but difficult with chairs, so better to drive, was a fantastic beach. When I say fantastic, I mean better than any other beach I've ever been to in the Caribbean. The beds were comfy, the showers were great, the kitchen was well stocked with pots for cooking our breakfast, the chairs for the beach were good quality Tommy Bahamas, the front porch was fantastic for hanging out, especially in the morning with our coffee, watching the joggers, and others go past. Everything was top notch! Anneke came and visited us the first day and we got to ask our questions. There was one minor repair needed for a non-working doorknob and she had the maintenance person there in 10 minutes from request to fix it. The location was a 7 minute drive from the downtown Palm Beach area. It was great to go there to walk around, shop, and do excursions from there, like the Jolly Pirates snorkel trip we did, but we were glad to come home (yes, we called it home!) to the quieter uncrowded residential beach area where we were. The beaches by the high rise district were ever so much more crowded than ours also. I cannot properly explain how perfect this place was, how great Aruba was, and how wonderful everything it was, except we will be back and we know that we will rent Casa Catalina again! I think I need a few more stars available to properly rate this place!
Thank you Lynda & family for your kind words :)
We're happy to hear you had great stay at Casa Catalina Villa and enjoyed the beaches and of course Aruba in general.
We're looking forward to welcoming you back to Aruba and the villa!
Great location that needs major maintenance
PROS: This house has plenty of space and is decorated nicely. Housekeeping came every other day. The kitchen had nice pots/pans/dishes. The air conditioning works great. Great location across the street from a shell beach. Snorkel cove and high rise beaches are easy walks in opposite directions. Lots of nice towels, both in the bathrooms and for the beach. Extra water shoes, sand toys, beach chairs and snorkel equipment was nice.
CONS: Admittedly Aruba received 1/2 a year's worth of rain during our week there, but we didn't meet Anneke for 5 days, just multiple emails responses of "thanks for letting me know". The roof leaked by the master bedroom and we had to keep towels and a pot out to catch all the water for 2 days. The TVs in 2 bedrooms didn't initially work. After 4 days the maintenance man said it was a bad cable connection and needed a part. The dryer didn't heat, but was repaired within a day. The ice maker quit working and was repaired. The pool needs to be replastered. 5 lights were never fixed. We never did find the switch for the front porch light/fan. Items that should be standard, but weren't provided: roll of paper towels, dishwasher detergent, bath soap. Overall for the price of this rental I expected better.
Would have been nice: bikes, instructions on how the oven worked.
Great House, Great Area
This house worked out very well for my group of friends! There were just 5 of us so we had more than enough room for sleeping and hanging out. Anneke was great and fast at responding to questions and minor issues (so minor I won't go into detail) She also gave us some great recommendations for local restaurants and how to find the fishing pier at Palm Beach. We ate out at Quinta del Carmen, Yemanja Woodfire Grill, and Bingo!; but we cooked at home in the new kitchen several times during our 10 day vacation. We shopped for groceries at SuperFood. It's a great kitchen - it took us the first day to figure out the oven (with Anneke's help) but from then on it was easy. This kitchen had a good selection of pots/pans, dishes, glassware, a blender, good coffeemaker, toaster, built in microwave. The beds were comfortable and the floor space in this house is more than roomy! The front porch was our favorite for morning coffee and to wave at passers-by. There is a small condo building directly across from the house so you'll have to walk the 2 minutes to the beach at Boca Catalina for your sunsets - which we loved watching with our toes in the sand! The back patio by the pool was great in the evening for a drink and stargazing. Just a 3 minute drive and 6 minute walk from the house is Arashi Beach and a great dirt road that follows the shoreline around to the dunes - great walking road! We loved this residential area (we had a car rental so getting out and around was easy) and would go back to this house!
