Das Cottage verfügt über geräumige Schlafzimmer mit Hartholzböden, originalen Gipswänden und einer Kücheninsel aus 2 Fuß breiten Brettern aus dem frühen 20. Jahrhundert. Beide Sofas können zu Betten ausgeklappt werden. Es befindet sich in der Nähe des New River und der Norfolk & Western Railway. Daher fährt der Zug gelegentlich vorbei.

Das Ferienhaus ist nicht für große Gruppen oder Partys geeignet.

Es gibt einen Herd mit Backofen, eine Mikrowelle und einen Toaster, einen Kühlschrank, Kochgeschirr, Teller, Tassen, Gläser und Besteck.

Alle Bettwäsche und Handtücher werden gestellt.

Wir haben Smart-TV-Verbindung mit einem Netflix-Konto nur für das Haus, lokal hergestellte Seife und lokal gerösteten Kaffee. Für Gäste, die den Zug nicht hören möchten, stellen wir Ohrstöpsel zur Verfügung.

Das Cottage befindet sich neben dem The Palisades Restaurant in einem alten Feriendorf, das einst ein blühendes Reiseziel und eine Haltestelle der N & W Railroad war. Das Dorf ist wieder ein Reiseziel und wird mit einem preisgekrönten Restaurant, einem Kunsthandwerksgeschäft und Unterkünften wieder lebendig.

Als zusätzlichen Service garantieren wir Reservierungen für das Abendessen im The Palisades Restaurant. Bitte geben Sie bei der Buchung den Tag, die Uhrzeit und die Anzahl der Gäste an.

A charming cottage. Definitely close to the train track but we read the reviews so we were prepared. It does get loud but after a great dinner and bottle of wine at the Palisades restaurant next door you don’t mind so much. A great alternative to the overpriced hotels in Blacksburg during football season. Host was amazing!

Unfortunately, this was not a good experience. We booked for three nights, but were so put off by the condition of the property and lack of accuracy in the description, we terminated after the first night. Resolution was swift and appropriate. One can only assume the property owner has not been on site in some time. One also wonders how this could have been rented out in the first place.

The cottage is as described, comfortable and big. The train is a bit noisy but earplugs do the trick - shower hot, excellent pressure, and extraordinary stars on a clear night. Absolutely would stay again. Thank you, Shaena!

It was hard to enter when I arrived, as it is so rural there is no cell service. I couldn’t check my email to get the code that was supposedly sent. The property is run down, not as pictured. The ceiling has fallen in on the porch, large cracks on the plaster walls in the bedroom and bathroom. Light switches are inconvenient, so you have to cross dark rooms to reach them. The ceiling fan chains are so short you have to stand on a stool to reach them. The house is set next to train tracks and the train went by 4 times in less than 3 hours. The brakes squeal like nails on a chalkboard. Without ear plugs I would not have been able to sleep. Part of the allure of this house is that it is in a rural setting where you hope it will be quiet. I love staying in old places, but not when they are not as described or pictured. It was not an enjoyable stay at all.

Overnight Train. and lodging lightening

Overnight train kept us up most of the night. The lighting in the lodge needs more lamps. Over head lights are great, but sitting in the evening needs low level lighting. Lodge as very clean and comfortable. I would stay there again, but realize that several trains come through the night. Little too expensive for the stay.

Mountain cottage getaway

Mr. Hunter's cottage is a lovely cottage from a by-gone era. Located in the mountains of Giles county, VA, this cottage is comfortable with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. The cottage is furnished with pieces that could have been there when it was built. The cottage has a beautiful porch, a great place for morning coffee. There is a very nice restaurant just steps from the cottage. I advise having at least one meal there, make sure you have reservations, as it can get quite busy. The restaurant was closed during my visit, but we were able to prepare very nice meals in the cottage kitchen. The New river is just steps from the cottage, and there is a very nice boat ramp near by. I believe there are several liveries in the area that will provide canoes, SUPs, tubes, and sit on kayaks, as well as a shuttle.There are also a number of other natural attractions in the area. The Cascades in Pembroke is a lovely hike to a beautiful waterfall. Bring your birding guide books and binoculars, you may get a few for your life list! The cottage is located on a very busy train line, with trains passing night and day. There is a road crossing near by, so all trains sound the horn when passing. There are foam ear plugs provided. TL;DR: clean, comfortable cottage located on a river with a train line in the mountains of southwest VA, great place for a getaway! Plan for curvy, narrow roads, trains night and day, and a slower pace.

Shaena grew up in Pembroke, Virginia just two miles from the site of the cottage. She remembers visiting Pyne's General Store, which was located right next to the cottage, as a little girl with her family. In 2009, she turned the building into The Palisades Restaurant. She has been in the restaurant and event businesses for over 20 years. Her extensive experience includes producing high-profile worldwide events such as the award-winning 2004 International VSA Arts Festival in Washington, D.C., the 2002 U.S. Olympic Torch Relay and the 1998 World Exposition in Lisbon, Portugal.

After traveling to all of the seven continents, including Antarctica, Shaena has returned to Giles County which she considers one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
