Das Salt Lick Retreat befindet sich im Frühling, Texas - westlich von I-45 und östlich von 249 / Tomball Parkway - in einer ruhigen, sicheren und etablierten Nachbarschaft in der Nähe von Hauptverkehrsstraßen, um Pendler leicht zu machen, ohne in der Nähe von Hauptstraßen zu sein ( Dinge gesucht und nicht oft gefunden, in und in der Nähe von Houston!).

Der Rückzug ist auf einer Anhöhe, überschwemmt nicht und hat jahrzehntelangen Stürmen standgehalten! Das Hotel liegt 30 Minuten nördlich der Innenstadt von Houston, in der Nähe von The Woodlands (27 Minuten), ExxonMobil Campus (19 Minuten), Hewlett Packard (10 Minuten), Parks, Spielplätzen, Golfplätzen, Kinos, Wander- und Radwege, Reiten , Fitnessstudios, Restaurants, Lebensmittelgeschäfte (Whole Foods, HEB, Kroger, Randalls und Sprouts), Eis und Joghurt Versuchungen, Wasserparks, Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und vieles mehr. Galveston Beach ist eine schnelle 1,5 Stunden Fahrt entfernt (ein lustiger Tagesausflug).

Unser üppiger und wunderbar privater Garten verfügt über einen Salzwasserpool mit Whirlpool, die beide ganzjährig geöffnet sind. Die Pooltemperatur kann bei 70 Grad oder kälterem Wetter bei 70 bis 80 Grad gehalten werden. Der Whirlpool kann bei jeder Temperatur von Pool-Temperatur bis 104 Grad verwendet werden. Der Whirlpool erwärmt sich schnell und wird in 15 Minuten von 70 Grad auf 104 Grad steigen. Es ist sehr schön an heißen Tagen, wenn Sie nicht wollen, dass das Wasser heiß ist!

Der Hof bietet auch einen Pavillon im Freien, Liegestühle und Sitzgelegenheiten, ein 8'x14 'rechteckiges Trampolin mit Sicherheitsnetz, Feuerstelle, große Dual-Grill (separate Seiten für Kohle und Gas) mit zusätzlichen Seitengasbrenner, Futonschaukel, Cornhole Spiel, Hockey / Fußballnetz, Pool- und Spielgeräte und Basketballnetz am Pool.

Monarch und andere Schmetterlinge kommen oft aus Kokons auf Schmetterlingspflanzen (oder sogar auf den Möbeln!). Falken, Eulen, Tauben, Kardinäle und andere Vögel besuchen den Hof und den Luftraum. Weiße Geckos machen Spaß am Garagentor in der Nacht, und Sie können das Glück haben, eine Fledermaus in der Nacht oder sogar einen Frosch im Hinterhof (einschließlich der gefährdeten Houston Toad!).

Das Refugium ist liebevoll mit formellen und informellen texanischen Antiquitäten und anderen Möbeln eingerichtet und wird Gästen angeboten, die es gewohnt sind, sich um ein gepflegtes Zuhause zu kümmern. Bitte beachten Sie, dass dieses Haus in Privatbesitz vermietet wird, wenn der Eigentümer in seinem Zweitwohnsitz (in der Nähe, aber näher an Kunden und alternden Familien) wohnt.

WARNING

What an awful expierance, I have rented many vacation homes and have one of my own and have never had to deal with anyone like Meg. This used to be a Bed and Breakfast and my recommend her is to return it to that so she can supervise every little thing she claims you have done while staying at her home.I would never stay here again, and consider yourself warned.

Lisa and her group damaged an antique caned chair and other items so were only refunded $75 of their security deposit. Recaning a breakfast room chair costs $200, but they are hard to damage - my nephew has happily eaten countless meals while sitting on them! She was thrilled with her stay until learning this, and had sent a text after checkout thanking me for a nice stay, and thanking me for being so responsive to her many texts during their trip. I have never had a renter leave the home in such poor condition (far beyond the broken cane chair). Lisa was, nonetheless, treated with kindness and patience. This home has never been a B&B - it is a well loved home that I live in, and which is made available to people who, per most all prior reviews - and far more offline responses - love what is offered. Treat the home with care, and you will have a great experience. :-)

She is very weird. She has cameras in the house. She is always watching everything and keep changing the air conditioner temperature. Not a safe neighborhood.

Chuckle. What an odd review. This was "Jihad E."' and family's second trip to the retreat this year, so clearly both the neighborhood and I are fine. :-) The neighborhood is excellent, in fact - as evidenced in part by Panera and Whole Foods being minutes away. This is one of the safest, most established neighborhoods anywhere in or near Houston. This street and house are particularly safe, as two sheriffs live in houses next door! Jihad's review from his first trip is shown further down in the reviews, from May 2018, and is fully complimentary about the "great house," pool, dollhouse, neighborhood, and more. They would not have come for a second trip had their first experience not been lovely. Jihad and family were not very considerate guests, or attentive to house care. The children did damage to items both trips. During this second trip the damage was more significant. They did not seem to have supervised their many very young children. The damage was submitted for coverage under the insurance guests are required to purchase through VRBO. Dollhouse items went missing, and four large furniture pieces were scratched and damaged (it looked like the children walked back and forth scratching them). Guests can rest assured that there are not "cameras" inside of the house - there is simply one inside, for the front door, as shown in the pictures on VRBO, and as detailed in the listing description, Rental Agreement, and other information disclosed prior to any guest booking. The property, and people therein, are very well protected by the alarm security system. As for the other ridiculous elements of this dishonest review, I do not have any interest in sitting around watching guests in my homes - or in changing the air conditioner temperature. The Nest thermostat is on a schedule - as most higher end thermostats are these days. Guests can self adjust the temperature at any time. The Nest auto adjusts the temperature to cooler at bedtime, and then adjusts itself again in the morning to a slightly warmer temperature.

WONDERFUL STAY AND HOST!!! THANK YOU MEG! :) Great house with everything we needed. Incredible cookbooks and stocked kitchen. Stunning granite countertops with double sided deep sink. Coffee maker, KeurigS, French presses AND tea steepers. WOW! Fast internet. HBO. TV’s in 3 rooms. So much space for our family to visit in and have private time in the 3 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, 2 dining rooms, and gorgeous back yard. So many couches! Two and a half bathrooms! Spotless house. We loved the yard. Salt water pool and Jacuzzi (we used it cold instead of hot, because it was a hot day), cornhole game, soccer and hockey net, toys, trampoline, couches, lounge chairs, futon swing, fun metal statues. The kids were in heaven, as were we. Definitely sit with coffee and listened to the doves lightly coo in the morning! Such a relaxing, quiet oasis filled with love and care inside and out. We felt super safe and comfortable with the security system. It felt like our own home while we were there, with totally empty closets and cabinets for our things. Meg has her belongings in her locked closets and office, so we never felt like we were going through someone else’s stuff. Fantastic setup for us. Be sure to read the Rental Agreement, which is the information provided by Meg. It’s easy to miss in the eight things Expedia asked us to agree to prior to booking. Meg is wonderful to communicate with. A lovely host. We didn’t meet this trip. We will definitely be back and hope to meet her next time!

Great Location, but too Micro-Managed

The Salt Lick Retreat was located in a great spot for our travel needs over Thanksgiving. The owners, however, were difficult to work with. The site claims a certain fee for parties. When I inquired about having Thanksgiving dinner for family, however, I was quoted double that fee and received strongly worded warnings about noise and caring for personal effects. We are a quiet family, not a bunch of rowdy 20 somethings and I was offended. But, too late, Meg had already received my full rental rate, with no cancellations allowable. The house is nice, but aspects of it are simply not clean. Mold is visibly evident in both bathrooms. The ceiling in the family room shows evidence of prior water damage. There is a camera in the family as well which made us feel like we were being watched (creepy!). There also was no ability to adjust the temperature of the house on our own. We had to call the owner to adjust from wifi. Considering the temperature fluctuations in Houston during this time of year, this was unacceptable. The first night, we were hot and miserable. I managed to text the owner for the second night so she could adjust. The last night, we arrived back too late to text and again suffered through the heat. I understand keeping some control over happenings in the home, but felt this really crossed the line. This is probably more suitably a bed and breakfast, rather than a full rental as it is obvious the owners want to be fully in charge of their guests. I noted the owner was most likely a terrific cook based upon her pantry, and recommend they keep it only as a B&B.

There are some reviews that property owners have to laugh about and dismiss. This is one. As you can see from other reviews, guests are normally thrilled with their stay at the retreat, and with all of the little extra touches that help meet guest needs. Kristin is a guest who should have stayed at a hotel, or at a property that is not someone's home. We have not allowed a party at the house, and charge a lot for the level of trust given to have one. Guests having a friend briefly visit is fine, at no cost, with prior notice / permission. I will respond to each of Kristin's complaints below (complaints she never voiced before her reservation, after making payment, or during the reservation): 1. Kristin inquired about a Thanksgiving week rental on September 17th. The standard rental inquiry response - as well as the listing, and the invoice - state that parties are discouraged, that the reservation is only for the number of people in the reservation request, and that parties are only allowed with prior permission and payment of an additional $150+ fee. AFTER receiving the invoice, and BEFORE paying the invoice, Kristin asked about having family over for Thanksgiving (20-25 additional guests). We quoted her $200 as a party fee. She decided not to have family over. She then paid the invoice. 2. There is no mold in any of the bathrooms, and the house is very happily kept ridiculously clean. :-) 3. The family room ceiling has a light water damage stain from the air conditioning pan overflowing last month in the attic. The drywall in the ceiling has to dry before we can paint it. You really have to be looking to notice it ... 4. There are clearly visible cameras onsite, and only one inside (for the front door). They are an unmonitored part of the security system. They are there in case of break-ins or later issues. 5. The Nest thermostat is set to allow guests to adjust the temperature between 69 and 74 degrees during the winter (so guests do not incur $300 heating bills during a rental). Either Kristin could not figure out how to use it, or the adjustment feature malfunctioned (it has never malfunctioned for anyone else ...). Texas winters make it difficult to know whether heat or cold will be needed that day, as it can be 50 in the morning and 80 in the afternoon outside! I was awake when Kristin got back to the house each day, and immediately adjusted the air any time she texted.

Beautiful property, great house, absolutely no privacy.

I have never left a negative review on VRBO, I have had all great experiences using VRBO and hope to have the same in the future. However, I do rely heavily on reviews when choosing rentals for myself and our employees, so I felt it important to be honest. There was no privacy whatsoever in this home, with the homeowner coming in at will, moving food, moving belongings, turning off lights, unlocking bedroom doors, etc. This homeowner has many antique items that she is very very protective of that have no place in a rental. You can not put certain foods on the table runner, you can not put anything on the rugs. (None of this is specified in the agreement). When asked about the multiple visits, she said it was in our contract, and proceeded to send me a contract with an added paragraph. When I provided her with the original contract, she brushed it off as if it is her right to make changes and not notify or inform us of them. When I asked her if she would be willing to simply text us and let us know that she had dropped by the house, so that our guys would not be surprised when they got home, she flatly refused. She said she didn't have time for that. We were charged hundreds for damage to "antique cane chairs". These were the only chairs provided for sitting at the dining room table. In her email detailing the damage, she told me "I do not think this is purposeful mistreatment" and also "this is likely caused by someone leaning forward in the chair to get something, or some other way that is not normal use for an antique chair." So even though she felt we were not purposefully mistreating the chairs, and the damage could have been caused by leaning forward (maybe to get some butter for your toast?) we were still charged hundreds to repair them. She has now replaced the chairs with something more sensible, but I felt I should let people know that there will be extreme scrutiny, and the antiques are very valuable and must be treated very carefully. In the photos she sent I could not even see the damage. The scrutiny, at least for my group, was intense. This is not a dedicated rental, it is Meg's home, and as such she is very attached and I understand that. However, the listing said ''This rental is for your PRIVATE stay at the retreat, absolutely unshared ... without the owner onsite. " I felt it only fair to let people know, there was nothing private about our stay. The house was great and so was the location, but we'll never rent from Meg again.

Chuckle. Okay ... Michelle, who wrote this review, did not stay at or even visit the retreat. She reserved the property for 6 weeks, from Salt Lake City, for her 4-6 person work crew, who were coming to repair a temple a couple of miles away. She did not tell me until after she made the reservation that she would not be there and that the reservation was for others. I immediately wrote and advised her that the home is historically not a good setup for work crews, because they are accustomed to hotels and usually break things and incur additional costs. They are simple too rough on homes, and especially one such as this which is full of antiques and rugs, as it is a home. She assured me that Dan, her lead guy, would be there at all times, and that they would take excellent care of the property. That did not happen. They caused over $1000 in damage over six weeks, even with me doing the weekly home checks detailed in the Rental Agreement for longer stays (something that is rarely actually done - it is pretty much there for general maintenance and plant watering, if needed). They broke 3 breakfast room antique cane chairs, which are really, really difficult to damage. Two were broken after Michelle paid for repair of the first one, while it was still being repaired! I replaced the cane chairs with metal chairs halfway into their stay, to put a stop to the damage. The sturdy formal dining room chairs were seemingly never used by the guys, as they used the formal dining room as a kitchen (leaving rotting onions, oranges and bananas on top of table runners on an antique wood dining room set). They ran over a driveway light and hid the damage. They lost 8 kitchen forks, of a now unavailable for purchase pattern, so ruined 2 sets of flatware. And did far more damage. They violated a dozen house rules and could at any time have been required to leave without refund of any part of their stay or security deposit. It is disappointing to see Michelle leave a negative review, after extreme patience was given to her and crew, but such is life. More renters are lovely than are snarky, and this is another example of someone retaliating in a review after rightly losing their security deposit. I was so exhausted from dealing with the crew and Michelle that I did not even pursue the $300+ in damages that was above the security deposit and additional damage payment Michelle made (I did add property protection insurance as a guest rental requirement after this, though).

We we’re very thankful to be able to stay at this home (not just a house) over Thanksgiving. It was extremely clean and in a quiet neighborhood. The bed was wonderfully comfortable. The shower hot and refreshing. I would gladly stay there again.

READ THE REVIEWS!!!! BEWARE! BE WARNED! This is a nightmare rental!

No really... Please read the reviews & the fine print! And then run away! This was the worst possible experience! I cannot emphasize strongly enough that you should avoid booking this property at all costs!!! We rented the house for several months for visiting professionals here working on a project. This team has stayed in many rentals and never had any problem with any home owner. They are conscientious, respectful, clean, etc. This owner had a camera INSIDE the house - she said that was disclosed in the listing and property documents. But that is directly in violation of VRBO policies. She refused multiple requests to remove it. We had to get VRBO to intervene. At their requirement she said she got rid of it, but she only turned it so it was still getting audio! VRBO advised us to unplug it. We did, and she responded by charging a $25 fee per day. Additionally, she took regular opportunities to be invasive, rude, and harassing, (i.e. texting at 6:00 AM Saturday because a pool toy cart had been moved over 1 ft., or texting about a light left on which she claimed is a fire hazard!) She repeatedly came onto the property unannounced during the day when the guys were at work, going into private bedrooms. She zip tied the window shades so they could not be lowered for privacy, etc! She expected them to take care of her pool and complained about chores that she wanted them to do around the pool even though they had not ever used it! She harped constantly over text & email about all of the precious heirlooms in her house - I completely understand wanting to protect those things, and our guys were very careful and respectful of them, but at the same time, DON'T keep precious heirlooms in a rental home! The kitchen counters were cluttered with stuff that the guys had to move over to have a little bit of counter space to prepare their meals. She kept saying things like this is her actual home and she only rents it so that other people can enjoy it, like she is doing a kindness or a service - but this is not a kindness - it's a business!! We paid a LOT of $$$ for a long-term rental and she made it so miserable that VRBO instructed us to leave 2 months early and she refused to give a refund!! She may try to deny or refute these things in her response. Trust me - if you could see the communications with her you would see how unreasonable and ridiculous she was! But read through her reviews and you will see others with similar experiences. RUN!!

There is no part of this review that is true. Monica was never at the property. The crew that she had onsite was a nightmare - as was Monica, in harassing phone calls and texts. She violated the rental terms, and we could have voided their rental, but we diligently and kindly worked with them. She contacted VRBO ten times with lies, which we easily disproved. We are happy to share our home with wonderful renters, so others can enjoy it when we need to stay closer to downtown. Awful renters are rare, but they always post false reviews. VRBO requires no proof of what is said in a review. Please do read through our reviews here and on other sites - and read all of the information that we (and other hosts) provide. There are a lot of homes available online. We want you to choose a property where you will have a lovely getaway or work trip. :-)

It was nice to visit w a few members of family in a home experience. It was a nice quiet place. Lots of dishes to use. Pool was older looked dirty. Only a few felt ok to use. Owner was fast responding to questions. Didn't spend a lot of time in t home. Quick trip. Took a long time to recover t refund of damage property but had to pay insurance no opt on that. Owner refer not their fault on that. Was greatful we found a location. Thank you

The pool is always extremely clean, and of course was during Liz and family's stay. :-) They may be used to hotel pools, which are re-plastered regularly, so are clear and white. Private homes do not replaster often, so have their own patina. The security deposit refunded automatically right on schedule, on the date Liz reviewed and accepted while making her reservation on VRBO. She may have rushed through the reservation process, because she booked our home after a last minute cancellation by the owner of the property she had originally reserved for her family get-together.

Best house and host ever. We had such a good stay. Will be back for sure. Big selling point is the white sheets and comforters, so we could tell everything was squeaky clean. That's a huge plus to renting someone clean's home, instead of a hotel or dedicated rental property where you don't know what gross things happened in some party group! Super clean washable mattress covers on all beds too. Family oriented property with lots of games and toys inside and outside, and plenty of space for together and solo time. Beautiful yard, so peaceful. As parents we appreciated the alarm, sensors on all doors and windows, safe fenced yard, and that our bedroom was down the hall from the kids (no shared walls, so we could watch TV and visit late downstairs and in our bedroom). We loved our stay. Could not ask for a nicer or more professional host than Meg who goes above and beyond in opening her beautiful home to guests. We're thankful we found this retreat from the city. It's close to Houston and The Woodlands, which was important to us because we have family in both areas. The house and yard are spacious. We wanted for nothing. Meg has everything well laid out for guests in the house, and in the rental information. Amazing spice collection! The house is immaculately clean. Super easy check-in with the keypad. No allergy issues of any kind. Plenty of space inside and in the yard for all to relax and play. Whole Foods, HEB and other grocery stores, cute ice cream shops, restaurants and more are close while the house and street are quiet and such a nature filled retreat outside. The kids loved the dollhouse, soccer net, trampoline, futon swing, pool toys, cornhole game, and of course we all loved the amazing salt water pool, Jacuzzi, and outdoor loveseats, chairs and chaise loungers. We were going to grill but ate out more than we expected. We appreciated the option to heat or not heat the Jacuzzi and decided to use it at pool temperature. Perfect for hot Texas days when heat's the last thing you want. We added ice bags to it one day which worked well too. There's too much offered here to list. I could go on and on in praise. We'll be back and highly recommend this home and host to everyone. The security system alarm is impressive and had us sleeping well each night in a new city. There are sensors on every door and window in the house, in a very safe neighborhood. Every door and window! Thank you again Meg. A wonderful weekend getaway! A+

This rental was a perfect place for a weekend getaway with friends. There was more than enough space for our group of 5. The common areas downstairs were very comfortable and accommodating. The outdoor area by the pool and jacuzzi was better than anything we could have ever dreamed of. The house is nestled in a quiet neighborhood that had all amenities and services nearby (i.e., grocery, restaurants, etc.). In reading some of the previous negative reviews, I was a bit hesitant in booking this rental. If you're thinking that the rules are strict, this is because this is the owner's primary residence! The previous negative reviews are because people were held accountable for being disrespectful and not abiding by the rental agreement. So, follow the rental agreement, communicate with the renter, and your stay will be PHENOMENAL! Meg is very attentive and set us up for a wonderful visit. I have NOTHING NEGATIVE TO SAY about our stay. An A+ in location, aesthetics of property, available amenities throughout the house, and in clarity of rental agreement. I would definitely recommend! Thanks for a great stay Meg! We hope to see you again soon!!

WONDERFUL!!!

This home is lovely and very clean nestled in a nice, quiet neighborhood. The pool and hot tub are awesome with lots of play toys. Every luxury is available in her home including a fully stocked kitchen with more spices you will ever need. TVs equipped with lots of options and DVDs are available. Spacious room to entertain and dine either inside or out under the covered patio with a grill . Great grocery stores and restaurants nearby. And state of the art security features are in this home to make you feel safe. It's a great place to stay and Meg was a gracious and lovely person and host. You will definitely enjoy your time in this wonderful home for any occasion.

DO NOT RENT HERE! TOTAL SCAM! SHE WILL KEEP ALL YOUR MONEY! READ ALL THE REVIEWS!

STAY ELSEWHERE! This property owner, Meg, is ONLY renting to be able to collect all of the additional deposit money from the renters. Read all reviews before renting here. It is in a decent location, charming, but in no way perfect. There were ants and roaches in the kitchen. Our stay included included 4 nights in April 2018. We were quiet, did not use the pool and maintained a clean house. As part of the rental agreement, we paid a cleaning fee which we interpreted as covering all the "normal and reasonable" items that would normally be covered by a cleaning staff. Apparently, Meg, does not have the same understanding of reasonable. She retained all of our deposit without recourse! Meg charged extra for the following items: -a fee for not setting house alarm / house protection/ alarm not set during stay. - a lost tumbler. Owner stating "sentimental value". - additional mess cleanup. - water cap that was thrown in the trash. - replacement of damaged kitchen utensils. she kept ALL of our security deposit. Completely unreasonable! Meg texted 8 photos to us after we left with her complaints. We offered to pay/replace for the missing cup through multiple text messages. If this is her house she should retain the items have sentimental value in a safe place as there us always the possibility of a lost/damaged item. Meg stated that 2 spatulas (used to cook eggs) were damaged (to which she provided a photo where there was a heat marks on the handles). The additional mess she identified as: kitchen counters needed wiping, bits of hair in bathroom from someone shaving their legs, conditioner in a bathroom sink, a used french press, full dishwasher - not yet ran, and groceries in fridge for which she unscrupulously charged ABOVE the ALREADY PAID cleaning fee. OUTRAGEOUS! Also, if privacy is what you are after DO NOT RENT THIS HOUSE!. Shortly after we arrived, a policeman came to the door asking if someone was home. He had certified papers with him. We told him we were renting. There were cameras in the home. We had a creepy feeling she spent her day watching the our every move. When we requested the location for the air mattress we were told the neighbors would report an issue if more guests than what she told them were onsite. CREEPY! Lastly, VRBO was no help to us. we contacted them immediately after she threatened to keep the deposit money. They favored with Meg's ridiculous claims and fees without sufficient inquiry. STAY AWAY!

Yes, please read the listing information, look through photos, and read the Rental Agreement and reviews! :-) Guests who treat homes as poorly as Tasha did should reserve elsewhere. Tasha lost her security deposit and has retaliated with a false review. Tasha booked through Expedia, which has created a lot of problems for hosts. Expedia recently bought out VRBO / HomeAway, and imported all rental properties into their platform. Guests who go through Expedia often treat private rental homes like hotels (which they are not). Hosts also have no control over what Expedia writes on the listing, so the information is incomplete (the PDF of the Rental Agreement is identical, though, so guests are responsible for reading and agreeing to all information before making a reservation). As VRBO does not require proof for reviews, no proof was provided by Tasha of her dishonest statements - her claiming that a police officer came to serve certified papers (which never happened), that there are roaches and ants in the kitchen (which there are not), and more ludicrous claims. There are roaches in all homes in Texas - they like wood, books, paper, and cardboard - but actually seeing one in my home is a rare, rare event, because they creep me out, so I am diligent in safe pest prevention! Tasha was difficult to communicate with from the beginning - she failed to read and follow the simplest of rental criteria and rules (accepted by her before her rental), brought more guests with her than she had put on the rental request (people that she did not even know, to split costs during a triathlon, to fill the house to the 6 guests included in the rental cost), left the property a ridiculous mess, removed items from the property (and lost them), damaged items, failed to protect the property as required with the alarm when she was away from the house (which was most of every day, because she was doing the triathlon), and more. Exhausting! I submitted documentation of this to VRBO, which is why they supported Tasha losing her security deposit. VRBO has a very involved process for this, to ensure that hosts are not scamming guests. I wish that VRBO had any process for verifying that reviews are valid, but there is zero process. Responsible guests have a great experience here. :-)
