We enjoyed our time at Encantada Guest House and the ElCastillo area. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, with an extraordinary birding experience, this is it. The house is perfectly outfitted and comfortable, the grounds are gorgeous and the owner and staff are easily reached for any questions. The area is great with lots of great restaurants and friendly locals. We will most certainly be back.

Beautiful stay in tropical paradise

Our stay at the Encantada Arenal was wonderful Marty and Nita are super hosts, and their property is amazing! It was fun sitting having coffe in the morning and watching the Tucans eat the fruit off the tree outside the cottage. The views are amazing and the people are so nice and warm and friendly. The view of lake Arenal is spectacular and the volcano is amazing. There is so much to do there you will never be bored.We look forward to our next trip back to Encantada Arenal.

Great Spot

Hubby and I were wrapping up 11 days adventuring around Costa Rica for our anniversary. Of the 3 loactions booked this was our favorite. This cozy spot is in a great location, checkin and out was super easy. The property is beautiful! Great food and adventures everywhere.

Lovely jungle experience

Beautiful property with lots of amenities. Flowers, birds, howler monkeys, etc…can be enjoyed throughout the property. The massage hut, on site, was outstanding!!! Many restaurants and activities within walking distance.

The casita was beautifully decorated and the surrounding gardens were stunning. We enjoyed waking to sounds of bird song and sitting on the front porch watching the humming birds as we drank our morning coffee. Nita and Marty did an excellent job sharing fun things to do and places to go in the area. The whole experience was restful, peaceful and fun!

Totally worth it!

This place was amazing. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle and with incredible views of the lake and volcano made this a special place. Our hosts, Nita and Marty, were very attentive and sweet. We had everything we needed and more. We did nearby hiking and zip lining and only had to drive a few miles so convenient.

We loved our stay

Getting to this location is not for the faint of heart. Once we settled in, we absolutely loved the place. The gardens are gorgeous the small pool was used almost daily as was the hot tub. Do yourself a favour, get out of your comfort zone and book this place! The white face monkeys and toucans where an extra treat!

Lovely Jungle Stay

We enjoyed our stay in El Castillo. The accommodation was clean, spacious and well supplied with everything we needed. Peaceful outside spaces were appreciated with chairs in sun and shade as desired. Nita and Marty are kind and accessible when needed. Previous reviews mention the road up - we found it easy up and down with a firm track. Enjoyed a few local restaurants as recommended by our hosts.

An Incredible Experience!

First let me say--- If you desire a truly authentic Costa Rican Rainforest experience--- why would you stay anywhere else! The Encantada Guest House was perfect--Incredibly clean, beautifully appointed, and perfectly situated. Wildlife galore, your own pool, shared hot tub access, on-site massage and yoga studios, trail to a private creek---- all just so incredible--- and the hosts Marty & Nita are second to none!!!

We found our new favorite place!

Encantada Arenal B&B and guest house is set on the edge of the rainforest with amazing views of the volcano and lake Arenal. The property is peaceful, beautifully kept and full of character. Marty and Nita treated us like family. We saw toucans and heard monkeys every day. The location is so close to everything we wanted to do: zip lines, hiking, great restaurants, but it felt like we were the only ones there. Can’t wait to plan a return trip.

Absolutely stunning guesthouse

An adorable home fully appointed with everything you might need to make yourself at home, including a hammock and a very comfortable bed. Hosts Marty and Nita were so helpful, sharing insights about nearby little town of El Castillo and helping us feel at home in the town as well as the guesthouse. We particularly enjoyed the new community center, Howlers Bar and Grill, and La Ventanita Cafe. We enjoyed the sky tram, sky walk that included two waterfalls and two very long very high suspension bridges! My kids will be proud I crossed those. Lots of memories at this lovely property...

Fabulous place and fabulous hosts!

We loved our week at Encantada Arenal! The guesthouse is beautifully decorated, and well-equipped, and the hosts, Marty and Nita are warm, caring, and incredibly helpful. They provide personal concierge service, such as making reservations and recommending all of the best activities. At their suggestion, we joined them on an amazing tour at the wonderful Bogarin Trail in La Fortuna, where we were able to see sloths with their babies, poison, dart, frogs, eyelash, vipers, as well as toucans, and a wide diversity of other birds. Marty made a reservation for us at sky adventure to do the hanging bridge hike, which was another terrific experience! We did the 8 AM tour which we highly recommend and saw lots of birds, and, of course, the magnificent rainforest. Other suggestions that we took included hiking both the Observatory Lodge trails for incredible views of the volcano, and the 1968 lava flow trail, as well as enjoying the Hot Springs at los Lagos, and visiting La Fortuna waterfall. Marty and Nita were always available to answer any questions, gave us a tour of their lovely B&B, and when I paid the small extra fee for a load of laundry, Nita even hung the clothes that couldn’t go in the dryer for me. It is clear that people are Marty and Nita‘s passion, and they truly love what they do. From enjoying the wonderful shared Jacuzzi that we had all to ourselves one evening to chatting about our mutual travels with Nita and Marty, we felt cared for and had an amazing time!

December Trip Review

The grounds were immaculate and the hosts were friendly and responsive. We stayed in the 2 Bedroom, 1 Bath Guest House. All the rooms except the living room was spacious enough. The living room is fairly narrow. It had a TV that a 3 person couch can utilize that we couldn't figure out how to use, but luckily we were able to connect our phones to it. During our stay, the weather was nice enough to not even need the A/C turned on. You get your own private pool, but the separate B&B building has the much nicer pool, but you don't get to use it if you stay at the Guest House. They have a nice hiking trail that leads to a stream that is also nice to lay/sit in. It would be nice to have a bench to sit on while down there, maybe even over the water. It looked like there was a bench with a cover there, but was all torn apart. Some of the debris could of been removed as well. The road to there is 1 way only and you drive over two concrete strips on step inclines, so it's best to have AWD/4WD. I'm sure a 2 wheel drive could make it as long as you keep momentum going. Early in the day, you will hear the landscapers, but I suppose that's the trade-off for the well kept grounds. There are no views of the lake & volcano at the Guest House, but if you stay at the B&B you do. You can also see it from the Hot Tub. There isn't much to do for night life as it's a small town with a few restaurants, so you'll need to drive 25 min or so to La Fortuna for that as well as other daily activites.

Great Hosts!

Nita and Marty were great hosts. Providing us with detailed instructions to get to their place, as it’s definitely off the beaten path, and we would be arriving straight from the airport in Liberia at night with no cell service (getting a Costa Rican SIM card the next day). The place was very clean and they provided lots of food for a few breakfasts as well as spaghetti for our arrival dinner (which I had requested as I knew we would be in late and not wanting to go out again). We managed to use the pool and the hot tub on the last day as it was a sunny day still once we got back to the Casita. The welcome book has lots of details about where to eat that is close by and we even managed to get the technology to work to watch a couple of DVDs (perhaps cause it’s old school and something we are familiar with). We didn’t do much cooking but the kitchen is well stocked. We ate two dinners at the Linda Vista restaurant (just around the corner) and one at La Ventanita (across the valley, near the Butterfly Conservatory - which we also visited and it was very good). We went to Eco Termales Hot Springs, which we booked ahead and that was great. We also did the North Fields Coffee and Chocolate tour with Alberto which was very well organized, informative and tasty. These are on the way into La Fortuna. You need your own car for this area I would say. The sky tram and the volcano hiking area are near by but we didn’t go to either. Very lush area. It did rain really hard one night and it comes quickly and then passes almost as quickly.

This property was amazing with it situated in the jungle, high up in the mountain side. Our first morning, we saw all the wildlife you normally have to pay for in La Fotuna, we saw 20 plus Tucans, howler monkeys, and other monekys shortly after. There were so many wonderful sounds with a wide variety of birds. We did not need to use the AC on the property as the nights were cool enough to sleep comfortably. The only thing I can point out with caution, is make sure you have an SUV with 4x4 as the road leading up to the property is pretty steep and treacherous especially during the rain. The hosts were amazing, they provide you with a welcome basket with breakfast items that last you a couple of days and any left over food, they provide to their workers, very nice jesture. I aske them if it was possible to have a bouquet of flowers for our visit, and boy did they ever. Their landscaper Pastor made an amazing bouquet from the flowers on the property. The proximity to La Fortuna was amazing, we were able to see the volcanoes and made the trip to Mistic tours for the suspension bridges, which was incredible. I would definitely stay at this location again and i highly recommend this for any nature lovers looking for a true Costa rican experience. Thanks for the wonderful stay

A Gem in El Castillo

We loved our stay at Encantada. It was clean and well equipped. And it was perfect for the two of us, whether drinking coffee and listening to bird song in the morning to hiking in the jungle by the property (and seeing capuchin monkeys and hearing the howlers) to excursions to various attractions in the region. Nita and Marty are kind and generous hosts. They will make sure you have everything you need and are full of great suggestions on what to see and do. They will do just about anything to make your stay perfect.
