Pleasant and a fantastic experience staying here. Loved the place
We had a fantastic week at Cedar Hill. Jim and Sherri were great hosts, and very accommodating! The cabin was exactly what we had hoped for, and it was a great time relaxing, swimming, canoeing. Our dog loved the water, and both she and my wife & I are thinking of ways to return soon. Thanks for the great vacation!
An experience so good my extended family wants to do it again next year, longer. We had 4 families--including octogenarian grandparents and 5 teengers--take up the entire place, and it worked out perfectly. Each family had its own cabin, with a common picnic area for meals and evening fires; private grassy lakefront down a good-sized set of stairs; and classic "cabiney" cabins that were clean, well-maintained, and cozy. Jim was the ultimate host, providing as much support as we wanted without being a helicopter, so we felt the place was our own. They were clearly concerned with helping us get the experience we wanted. He set up a pontoon rental from a nearby resort (he has a canoe and the lakefront is rocky with no dock, but we swam, launched & landed our kayaks & paddle boards, and fished without problem). Additionally, he and his wife are delightful people who provide a great cabin conversation, vital pointers, tips, amusing knowledge, and a good laugh. Really great, get it before they figure it out and triple their rates. They've only been at it 43 years!
The property is very well-maintained. The cabin was clean and furnished nicely. The owner was very attentive, great followup on questions prior to our stay and during our stay. This property has 4 cabins. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing, off-the-grid, reconnecting vacation.
One day we went to the other side of the lake and rented a pontoon from a resort. It was fun. He does not have a dock which is fine and I completely understand why he doesn't with the rocks, etc.
He just outside of a small town which had a small grocery store, a couple restaurants that we didn't eat at, gas station, etc. It is a pretty remote location, but that is what we enjoyed the most.
My wife, my 2-yr old son, my parents in law, my wife's grandma (78-yr old) and I stayed two nights at cabin #3 for the entire weekend in late July. Jim and Sherry were extremely sweet, considerate and wonderful hosts. The stay was cozy, and we enjoyed the peaceful environment at their lodge on a highland by the beautiful lake. Sherry showed us her art studio and fabulous clay works, and Jim took us to go fishing on his boat in the evening on Moose Lake for two nights! For the first time we have experienced fishing in the MN wilderness, and big walleyes and northern pike we caught under Jim's professional tutoring and with his fleshy leech baits! They have a canoe for rental; Jim took us to the other side of the lake where a sandy beach is good for swimming, and he also contacted his neighbor to rent a pontoon for us to tour on the lake. The experience was far beyond what you usually have at a resort or B&B, and we'll definitely visit them in the future.
My boyfriend and I stayed at this cabin over July 4th weekend. Jim and Sherri were extremely welcoming to us and were wonderful hosts. They own and operate 4 small cabins behind their lake home on Island lake in Northhome, MN. The cabins are located quite near each other, but being up north, there is quite a lot of lake and woods to go out and explore so that we never felt claustrophobic.
We went during the summer so we got to see a far amount of pelicans, loons, and deer. We brought up our canoe and got a lot of fishing time on the large yet quite lake. I believe Jim has a canoe available for borrowing to guests too if they don't have their own. The horse flies and mosquitoes are quite bad during this time of year up there so make sure to pack accordingly. The only thing we felt was missing was a little bonfire pit outside of our cabin for roasting marshmallows etc, but Jim had mentioned that its in the works so hopefully it'll be there by next year's cabin-ing season!
Wonderful hosts, relaxing getaway, beautiful scenery - we'll be back!
