We had an overall great experience staying in this log home. It had everything we needed to enjoy a relaxing stay. This home has some attractive features that make it stand out: a wonderful balcony with a gas grill and table, a nice warm loft, a basement for entertainment, and it's in a great location in the forest.
It's furnished comfortably, is well lit with large windows, and stays warm inside on cold nights with the central gas furnace. There is a washer and dryer in the basement, a pool table, and everything else already mentioned in the description. The only thing missing was a coffee grinder for the nice coffee machine already in place. We bought one and left it for others to enjoy some good fresh coffee.
If you're reading this far, you're likely looking for some dirt since everyone know nothing is 100% perfect. I'll just mention the few things that got the frown during our stay but were easily taken care of. First, the towels and sheets weren't washed, they did look clean but the wrinkles were a sure sign they didn't get washed before we arrived. That easily got resolved with the downstairs washer & dryer, no big deal. The other thing was the numerous spider webs inside several window screens, I suppose they get cleaned once a year and not after every visitor stay, no big deal either.
It was a really pleasant experience staying at this log cabin. It has all the comforts of home, located in a quiet forest, with great access to city things. Also worth mentioning is the area not far from the home offers many trails for hiking and mountain biking, which we explored everyday. This home gets 5 stars for sure.
The cabin was exactly as described, we had a wonderful stay and will be renting again for upcoming trips!
Loved Flagstaff. The Grand Canyon South was within a reasonable distance. The cabin was ideal for our needs.
My wife and family stayed here on a family visit to see my oldest daughter who is starting to attend NAU. While the cabin was generally clean and it has many nice features and curb appeal, there were a couple of things that annoyed us. We eventually decided to leave a day early. I travel for my career and can sleep on just about any type of bed without any issues. Unfortunately, this cabin has a very uncomfortable bed that felt worn out and was trying to be disguised with a foam top pad. Ultimately, there was a very noticeable sag in the middle of the mattress and I didn't get a good night's sleep during the entire stay. My wife also slept poorly during our visit. The second major drawback for us during out stay was the wifi didn't work. When I contacted the property owner his suggestion was to drive into Flagstaff and "borrow" a wifi signal from Barnes and Noble or a Starbucks. He said he was aware of the problem and "probably should come up and look into it." He stated he talked to the internet provider and everything seemed to be working from provider's end of things when they pinged the modem. My hunch is the modem needs replacing which is a 10 minute fix. Although we were on vacation, too many situations kept coming up from my workplace and I wanted to take care of them after my family went to bed in evenings. To drive back into Flagstaff was not a pleasant solution. The two frustrations mentioned above were the main reasons for us leaving early. Still, for future renters, I would just let you know the overall "first impressions" didn't set well with us either. The instructions on the counter asked us not to use any of the base-board heaters as they would blow a fuse. One would think we wouldn't need heat in August but we had cool temperatures during our visit and the evenings cooled off significantly. There were also a few outlets that didn't work. Ultimately, it really made me wonder what kind of craftsmanship was used. As you drive up and open the door, the cabin looks very nice...but the more you experience the cabin, the more you wonder. Was really hoping for a great experience as my daughter will be at NAU for at least 4 more years and would like to have a place we could book routinely for our visits. Overall...an okay stay but definitely not 4 or 5 star worthy.
A problem arose at the beginning. We did not receive the lock-box info. We contacted HomeAway and got the information in a couple of hours.
The cabin is very comfortable and charming. The first day was hot so we retreated to the basement area which was cool and played some pool. After that we aired the place out during the nights with fans and it remained comfortable all day.
This is an exceptional property with a highly responsive owner. Very clean, very accessible, and so close to all the major attractions. The upstairs loft has two queen sized air mattresses that my kids loved. The main floor has two bedrooms with wonderful queen beds. The lower level has tons of games, and the pool table was a nice bonus. There are laundry facilities in the lower level for free, also a huge plus. The kitchen has all necessary utensils, and the deck is amazing. The owner was so concerned about our welfare, he contacted us a few days before our trip to offer a full refund if we wanted to change our minds since Flagstaff weather was unusually hot and the cabin did not have AC. We had NO issues with the cabin being too hot, and in fact it had a pleasant breeze that kept it on the cool side. The only thing keeping it from a 5 star for us was the shower that is a little small and the shower doors were very hard to slide open and closed, although the owner does mention that the shower is a little quirky. We would absolutely stay here again and we're sorry our time went so quickly.
