I can't even begin to tell you how amazing our trip to Elk Water Fork Cabin was. If you are looking to use your cell phone, watch cable tv, or browse the internet during your vacation this place is NOT for you! If you are looking to relax on a porch, listen to the stream burbling while you lose yourself in a book, go hiking in the woods, make s'mores by a fire, then this is your place. Frank and Micki are so kind and have thought of everything you could need for your stay. The beds are amazingly soft with thick cushy blankets, the couch and easy chair are huge and overstuffed, and the kitchen has all the pots, pans, and miscellaneous items you'll need. They graciously have us a dozen fresh eggs when we arrived and came down two of the days to bring firewood and build us an outdoor fire. We are already planning Mountain Mama Getaway 2017!
Great place to stay. Private and in the middle of nature with access to plenty of national, state and local parks. Snowshoe close by for skiers in the winter and mountain biking in the summer. Cass, WV close by for steam train rides up the mountain. Spruce Knob the highest point in WV as well as other locations you can travel to on a day trip. The owners are friendly and the cabin is well furnished. Great place to get away from the city but keep in mind no mobile phone service or tv cable service but they have a DVD with plenty of DVDs and a telephone land line. However I came there to enjoy nature, hike, sit on the front porch and by the fire pit. Beds and linens were wonderful. Everything was comfortable and the kitchen was supplied with everything you need to cook. Bring your own supplies cause it's a good distance to a grocery store or restaurant.. Would stay there again!
We needed some time to disconnect from the stress of our every day lives and this cabin was the perfect place to do that. The setting is spectacular. Frank and Mickey have thought of everything--the cabin is better equipped than any other rental we've stayed at...from kitchen utensils to a huge selection of DVDs and firewood. The location is remote (well maybe not for WV)--so make sure you are well stocked for food before you get out there. Cell phones won't work and there's no internet but you can use the cabin phone to make any kind of call you need. Many thanks to our hosts who made our get away care free!
The house was cozy and secluded, clean. Great place to relax with children and perfect for pets to roam. Only drawback for families is no closed walls for privacy in sleeping areas. Bring games and videos to watch, a variety were at the cabin, or just enjoy the area and breeze on the deck. Owners were gracious and available if need be. Would go again.
We stayed 3 nights and met both our hosts, who are wonderful folks. If you really want to get away from the rush of everyday life, this is the place. Frank and Mick have done a great job in figuring out what items are needed to have a great stay.
We highly recommend this wonderful cabin.
We stayed at the cabin as a stopping point between Raleigh, NC and Cleveland, OH. The cabin was absolutely spotless with quality furnishings and linens, completely stocked kitchen, a great bathroom with very strong water pressure, a great supply of music CDs and plenty of DVDs too. The owners thought of everything you might need -- books, maps, games, extras of everything you would want. We spent some time with the owner, Frank, running around the property on his little 4-wheeler vehicle (which was very, very fun) and he graciously supplied us with firewood and some fresh eggs! It was too good to be true. I love staying at a place owned by someone with pride in their property and a great story to tell, and Frank was very hospitable and accommodating to us during our short stay. He is the kind of guy you love to hang out with, with a very nice, low-key personality, and yet he gave us privacy to enjoy our stay after making sure we were set up well. We got to see the beaver pond and walked through the woods. According to Frank, there is no poison ivy because the property is located at such a high altitude, so that made walking through the woods feel much more comfortable. We had no problems during our stay, everything was perfect. It rained that night and we could hear the rain on the tin roof over the porch. I wish we could have stayed longer! If you need a place to get away from it all, the drive is well worth it to this cabin!
