Fantastic view of the sea from the front bedroom. The host was contactable at any time. The location of the house was a great and it was a lovely walk to the harbour. We drove to visit different beaches each day. Tesco was 5 mins drive up the hill and walking distance for people fitter than me. I can honestly say, the double bed facing the sea was the comfiest bed (and pillows) I’ve ever slept on. 2 lovely bathrooms and spacious kitchen. Can definitely recommend the Thatched House for food 2 mins walk down the hill, don’t go too much later than 5pm as it gets full, no bookings but first come first served. We found the locals very friendly too

This property worked really well for us (a family with two children and a dog). It's in a great location - nowhere too busy, but close enough to the centre and the coast, and right by a great nature area for walking.The host was helpful whenever needed. Thank you!

First up I would like to say how lovely the house it situated, it is a great base & lovely views from front bedrooms.*The neighbours are not very welcoming, even when smiling at them they made us feel awkward, they are purposely difficult with their parking right up to the drive. I imagine they dont like this house being used as a holiday home for guests. Thats not the hosts fault though. Next door neighbour has scaffolding and building going on, works start around 8:30 on weekdays but we were up anyway so something to be aware of.* The housekeeper could do with cleaning a bit better, surfaces are clean but there is dirt build up everywhere like the floorboards/showers/mouldy washing machine/excessive lint in dryer, dust.*one of the single beds on the first floor doesnt have enough slats.*sofa's really uncomfortable*The house is damp and without windows open constantly it really smells. I believe the worst of the smell comes from around the boiler in the kitchen*In my opinion, this house is not suitable for babies/toddlers (absolutely fine for older children/teens) you cannot use stairgate other than on the 1st floor bedroom door.*there are also stairs to the garden which is not very well maintained *there isn't a brick bbq its a standalone bbq (but it did the job)*check in extremely easy*host was in contact when needed to be, and answered questions, no issuesIt's a lovely house, just small things that would make a holiday nicer

Thank you for your feedback, I will pass this on to the housekeeper. Normally we get very good reviews of cleanliness. This is the first time i have heard about smells. We have babies and toddlers in our family too and I do explain, if asked, that the stair gate fits in any of the bedroom doorways but not on the stairs as the victorian banister posts are not compatible with anything on the market. The boiler was serviced in August with a gas safety cert. The house is not damp. The outside steps are concrete steps with a freshly painted white safety edge line done at the beginning of the summer holidays, with hand rail. They were cleaned of any foliage then too and are solid. I agree that small children do need to be accompanied in the back garden due to the steps. I'm sorry if you felt the neighbours awkward.

A lovely base

Great place for our group of 4 adults. Having 2 bathrooms was perfect. The house is lovely - really homely and one of the cleanest we have stayed in. The garden area is great. Just a shame we didn’t have a couple more sunny days to enjoy it.

A lovely house with beautiful views and a perfect location to explore North Devon

The house was comfortable and well equipped with a lovely garden and great views. There was plenty of room for to families and we enjoyed eating in the garden on sunny days surrounded by the beautiful anemones. The location was perfect for exploring Ilfracombe and coastal paths with a beautiful beach a 10 minute walk away. We had a wonderful week.

Bright and Spacious with lovely views.

Family of 5 + dog, plenty of room, light and bright within easy access to centre of Ilfracombe, beach, cliff tops...lots of places to explore locally and further afield. House well equipped, shower was great, beds comfy and enough storage space - separate washer and drier which was helpful. We had a lovely time.

3 generations Family holiday

Loved the layout and the spaciousness of this house. It was very comfortable. Two bathrooms which is an essential feature for us. The weather was very changeable so we didn't get to use the garden but there is room to sit out. There were 6 of us and the property sleeps 8. Efficient dishwasher and washing machine. Decent size fridge and freezer. Plenty of cups, crockery and cutlery which was great. The dining table seats 6 so it was fine for us. Lots of board games etc which we didn't use but was a nice to have. The area is well kept but very hilly, fine for us but something to bear in mind if you struggle with hill walking. About 10/15 minute walk to the harbour and the town. Lots of shops and cafes. Best beach is Woolacombe which is about a 20 minute drive away but worth the trip.

The house is in a great location, close to some lovely beaches, nice outdoor space to eat in. Could have been cleaner when we arrived but overall a great place to stay to explore local area, and you didn’t have to far to find some fabulous activities. Kitchen was well equipped, bedrooms were nice with good storage, we had a great stay.

Great house for a family stay

The property was in a perfect location in a very quiet and lovely neighbourhood, with easy access to the open spaces of Hillsborough Fort and footpaths for walks into the harbour and out into the countryside. The accommodation was just as described and great for us with two young children and a dog. It was well equipped and very comfortable. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a holiday by the sea but with lots of walks and things to do in the area as well.

Great Location

Across the road is the leisure centre and, beyond that, there are paths to the harbour (10 minutes walk and you can see it from the house), to Hele Bay over the cliffs or a flatter, more direct path (20 minutes by the direct path tops) and to a couple of little bays and the sea. It is doggie heaven as around the leisure centre there are fields where the locals let the dogs run off lead - playtime. The house is nice and the garden is lovely, enclosed for the dog too.

Lovely house, with sea visible over rooftops. Close to swimming pool and Chambercombe Manor ( historic house) which is lovely. Fifteen minute walk downhill to harbour and town was fine for us.

Great House for Family Break

Location - 15 walk to harbour and pub within 5 mins walk. You have to be mobile as house is on a fairly steep hill but cab only £5 if you can’t walk back uphill from harbour. House - clean and tidy and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Kitchen well stocked with utensils and appliances. Would only say that more wardrobe space is needed other than that in main bedroom. Great views from the front bedrooms. Garden - steep steps to garden which some people will find difficult and a handrail on both sides would be a welcome addition. Also, the garden was a bit unkempt (tidier in photos) and would benefit from cushions on the metal chairs as they were pretty uncomfortable. It’s a good house in a good location with plenty of space for the 5 of us. Alison’s communication was both quick and helpful, especially when the previous rental failed to put the keys back in the safe on departure leading to a delay in getting into the house. Big thanks to the lady that was urgently scrambling to clean whilst we sat in garden.

Great stay in Ilfracombe in a well appointed town house

Impressed with the property - better than it looked in the listing I think was the general consensus. Great for us - a bathroom and bedroom for each couple and space enough for a bigger family with the twin rooms. It's a shame the weather was awful so no chance to use the BBQ or the terrace - which was inviting, as was the log fire but we didn't bother to use it. A nice place to shelter, eat, drink and play games as the wind howled and rain lashed! Close to a good local pub and when the weather held a nice walk down into the town and along the quay. Accurate listing - furniture is decent and price reasonable enough I think. A good find so would definitely stay again

Beautiful old home

This property was beautiful and well located relative to the town. It comfortably fit 4 adults and a dog for our week long stay. We ran in to some issues with the boiler water pressure, and it seems like this was a recurring problem for this property. But the property owner was very responsive and quick to send someone out to address it.

Hi, the plumber went back on Tuesday after you left and I’m afraid found that you had left the back door wide open. Thanks for the review. The new boiler had a faulty valve and that has now been done.

My husband and I love restoring houses. We both come from art and architecture backgrounds with a wealth of experience in the antique and restoration trade. My husband had his own London based landscape business before moving into property renovations. He has lovingly landscaped the rear garden, creating an intimate yet spacious eating area in our south facing garden and surrounding by pretty, fragrant planting.

We love this house. It has high ceilings, tall windows and full of light. South facing rear garden dining area that has been carefully landscaped to include brick built BBQ. The three storey house has sea views from all floors too! We have carefully restored original architectural features and flooring to a high standard, decorated with Farrow and Ball paint and selected comfortable mattresses. We have chosen new and antique furniture, modern and traditional original artworks. We have created a most energy efficient home, without spoiling the Victorian structure.

Ilfracombe was established as a Victorian holiday destination and built in the 19th century. It holds the charm of the 'Victorian holiday' with an active fishing harbour but with all the expectations of a 21st century holiday. It is full of life and with lots to do. The house is 4 miles from the popular surf beach of Woolacombe, 8 miles from Croyde and in shooting distance to masses of amazing attractions or activities. Unlike the surf beach locations, Ilfracombe has lots to see and do on bad weather days and in the evenings-all within walking distance and for all ages.
