Unique apartment for four persons in castle with swimming pool

Enjoy our beautifully renovated apartment in Schloss Gröbitz during the summer months. The historic building is a true experience. Discover the culture in the region, visit cities such as Leipzig, Weimar and Dresden or relax in the quiet shady garden. Also ideal for a holiday with children!

Apartment
The apartment is located on the second floor of the Schloss. You reach it through the beautiful vaulted reception hall on the first floor, the unique spiral staircase in the tower and the stately hall on the second floor.
You enter the apartment through the living room. What immediately stands out is the decorated stucco ceiling on from 1721 and the large original double doors. The two high windows that lie in an alcove overlook the garden and heated pool. The living room has a sitting area, a dining area and a fully equipped kitchenette, including a combination microwave and dishwasher. From the living room you go left to the master bedroom, and right, through a hallway, to the second small bedroom and the bathroom. All rooms are fully and tastefully furnished.

The entire Schloss, and therefore this apartment, has been renovated in recent years. In the summer of 2022 will be rented for the first time, so everything is like new! When renovating, we kept as many original details as possible and worked with traditional, building organic lime and chalk products. This means that each room has its own unique character.

The apartment does not have its own garden, but you are free to use the shared garden and pool. Garden chairs and a barbecue are available. Also the hall and the dining room on the first floor can be used freely. Furthermore, in front of the Schloss there is a municipal playground, which children can use.

The apartment is suitable for 4 persons, if necessary an extra bed or crib can be added. The apartment is rented including towels, bed linen, kitchen textiles, Wifi, energy, etc.. If necessary, a washing machine or other facilities can be used.

Schloss
'Schloss Gröbitz' is actually the ‘Herrenhaus des Ritterguts’ or ‘Gutshaus’. However, in the village the building is called ‘Das Schloss’, a name which we have taken over. In 1512 the Gutshaus was built by Rudolph von Bünau. The stairs tower and some walls and vaults on the ground floor remains from that era. The building was largely rebuilt in 1721 and has taken its current shape. After World War II the property was nationalized. First it served for the reception of 52 German refugees from Silesia. Later in the GDR-time, it was used for different functions in the community: Town Hall, nursery, volunteer fire department, doctors practice, youth centre, library and so on.
In 2012, we adopted the property, which had been vacant for five years at the time, to make it a nice place for vacations. The rebuilding and renovation took a long time. We did most of it ourselves and of course we also had to deal with regulations and the protection of monuments. But now the building is largely finished and we are proud of the result, which we like to share with our guests! In 2022 we will rent out two apartments on the 1st floor, in 2023 two more apartments will be added and we will also start offering more services.

Gröbitz
Gröbitz is situated no more than 5 minutes from the Autobahn A9 (Berlin-Munich). So it’s easy to get there, and ideally located for day trips.
The village, with about 500 inhabitants, is built against a steep slope. The Schloss is at the top and is the heart of the village. You walk along a picturesque stream down the slope, into the Valley for a shorter or longer walk. Children can go safely on their own into the Valley, because the village as good as car-free.
In Gröbitz itself there are no shops. Three times a week a baker comes into the village. There are small shops in the neighboring village Stößen (2 km). A large shopping centre is located in Leißling, at about 6 km.

Surroundings
Gröbitz is located on the outskirts of the Saale-Unstrut region, in the south of Sachsen-Anhalt. This area, not far from cities such as Leipzig, Dresden, Halle, Jena and Weimar, is also called the Herzland der Deutsche Geschichte. As early as in the Roman time (from 1000 a.d.) this region flourished. Bach, Luther and Goethe, who each in their field, have determined the history of the world have their roots here. World War II and the subsequent Communist era have left their marks. But now takes self-awareness in former East Germany is growing. A vibrant cultural climate prevails in the cities, you feel that there is a new dynamic.
In major cities like Leipzig and Dresden you can easily spend several days shopping and enjoying culture. But there are also many pleasant smaller towns such as Naumburg and Freyburg, and countless castles, monasteries and ruins that are worth a visit.
Have you had enough culture? Then a walk through the wine-growing areas is recommended (with of course a visit to a Weingut), a canoe trip on the Unstrut, or a visit to old Brown coal mining. Also there are some long-distance bicycle paths in the region. You can swim in the Freibaden (open air swimming pools), that you can find in many villages as a legacy from the GDR-time. Also old brown coal excavations are now often turned into nice beaches where you can spend a day.
