Given the unique location along with the photos, we expected a beautiful stay and yes, we got that...and more. It is difficult to explain just how much our family (7) enjoyed and got so much out of this experience, that we will walk away with a treasure full of fantastic memories. The 190 acre ranch is so beautiful that it is truly awe-inspiring. My son said to me while cooking steaks on the barbecue that "this is the best vacation he has ever had".....and I must agree. The 3 children fell in love with the donkeys, the peacocks and especially the extremely friendly cats. My granddaughter brought in fresh eggs every morning for breakfast, a truly wonderful experience for this city-girl. The care-taker couple just were terrific and added another adventure/education experience to our vacation. Of course, we visited nearby Sequoia but couldn't wait to return to our mountain ranch "home" to settle in and enjoy the evening sunset on the surrounding hills and mountains and of course the ever-rushing South Fork River that flowed by our ranch/barn/home. My 5-star rating doesn't accurately reflect the joy and pleasure this stay brought us; I only wish there were 10 stars. What more can I say....we will return!
This place is unlike anything I've ever seen before. Every little detail just makes it absolutely magical, from the gorgeous, modern barn-house to the swimming hole. My fiancee and I recently got married here (stay was Sep. 29-Oct 1), and although we had to provide every element to make it a venue, the backdrop was the most beautiful! Every guest commented on how lovely the river and mountain landscape was, several saying it was the most beautiful place they'd ever been. The bridge and swimming hole not only made for a great time with friends before the wedding, but a perfect setting for photos. Although the water was chilly, our friends had the best time swimming and relaxing among the butterflies and birds. The ceremony site overlooked the river, and the reception site worked great with the tables, chairs, and dance floor we brought in. We hired a DJ, caterer, and ran shuttles from a local hotel, and everything went perfectly. The caretaker, Phillip, was warm, welcoming, and helpful. His friendly puppy Rufus even came to visit us at one point! I can't recommend this location highly enough for anything you may need, from a family reunion to a work retreat. Honestly, all of our friends said it was one of the best getaways they had, and they were helping to set up the day before! Nobody wanted to leave because everything we needed was right there. We were shocked to see how well-stocked the kitchen and rest of the house was, so we left behind a few of our spices and rolls of toilet paper to say thank you for all the supplies we used. It slept the 12 we had with us more than comfortably, and I'm sure it could have slept more. The two kitchens made it incredibly convenient, and our caterer had no trouble using the upstairs kitchen to prepare a fantastic meal. If you don't feel like bringing all your food for the weekend, you can travel to town, about a twenty minute drive away. We purchased take and bake pizzas from Sierra Subs and Salads and made our own pizzas at the house. Every morning we collected eggs from the chicken coop...nothing like fresh eggs! The owner, Andrew, provided excellent service, and takes great pride in this property. If you are willing to put in the work to make this blank canvas your dream location, this is the perfect venue for a rustic wedding. Thank you Redwood River Ranch - we hope to find another reason to come back!
I was overly impressed by this place! We came here to celebrate my husbands 30th birthday and we couldn't have picked a better place. Andrew from the beginning was amazing with communicating and answering all my questions. Once we arrived at the property Phil was great and we took him up on his tip of going night swimming in one of the swimming holes and it was the best advice ever. It was a beautiful place that makes you feel like you we on a private mountain. I would recommend this place to everyone.
Thank you for the amazing time!
We had the most amazing time playing in the river - probably for 6-8 hrs each day. We almost had to spend that time in the water as it was so hot outside! Kids loved every second from building dams in the toddler friendly middle swim hole to riding the natural water chute in the lower swim hole to diving in and having water fights in the 7 ft deep upper swim hole (which I am told is much deeper in May and June). The upper swim hole with the water fall is truly idyllic and will remain in the memory bank for years to come. The House itself was exactly as advertised - very comfortable and everything worked - including the AC which we needed in triple digit heat. Only niggle is that there could have been a few more plates, pans and utensils as I love to cook. Clearly most of the food is expected to be cooked on the enormous grill, which we did for the first few days (and loved btw). We decided to make Italian food one night; however, which is where we came up a little short on utensils. Come prepared as the nearest store is a solid 20 min drive. The property is very remote, which we welcomed but some folks may not. The kids loved feeding the horses, donkies, and chickens and eating the fresh eggs every morning. By the afternoon of our 4 th day (and last day) the older kids (12 and 11) were starting to get bored of the river but the younger kids(2, 6,7,8,9,10) could have stayed for weeks longer. A true gem of a find that I suspect we will be revisit in the not so distant future. Thanks to both the owner and on site caretaker for catering to our every question quickly and courteously.
We spent a week with 8 adults and 5 young children, everyone had a great time. The house is well designed and furnished comfortably. There are two kitchens, pretty well stocked especially with spices and cleaning staples - allowing us to limit trips to the grocery store on vacation. Other highlights: long picnic table and second story deck for watching the evening arrive.
The grounds are beautiful with lots of spaces for fun. The river has three access points with various activities and we enjoyed all three. Even the little ones could wade in and, of course, throw rocks in the water. Open area for ball games and other play. And there are chickens - the kids loved gathering the eggs.
The caretaker is welcoming and helpful.
I expect we'll be back.
We had an amazing time here. We were a big family with kids ranging from 2-21 and everyone enjoyed it. Having the river pools in our own backyard was an experience we won't forget. Make sure to check out the 3 of them because we didn't go to the lower pool until our last day and missed out on some huge flat boulders to lay and relax on. Everyone enjoyed all the friendly animals on the property from my 2 year old niece getting our fresh eggs to my 21 year olds feeding the horses. I also need to thank Phil the caretaker for making sure that our handicap daughter was able to feed the horses and mules. He lent us his 4x4 utility truck to get her to the animals. None of us complained about not having phone service it was great to disconnect from reality. Our friends and family were jealous of our pictures. We are not a typical family that returns to the same places for vacation but we all agreed that this is one we will be coming back to. Once again thank you Phil and Mike for accommodating to our every need and Andrew for sharing his beautiful property.
