If you are looking to get away from it all in the middle of a cow pasture, this is your place! Quaint house north of Roanoke VA is far enough away from it all to see a million stars and not hear a single bit of traffic, yet close enough to visit some of the area attractions if desired. This is our second year having a mini-family reunion here and we will be back. We recommend it.
The location was beautiful and very remote. My family and I had a great time there. There were plenty of things to do in and around the house, even without the wi-fi. I would love to back there with just my wife and I to do some exploring of the surrounding area.
We stayed here for a long weekend in a group that included a 5 year-old, 3 year-old, and 1 year-old. We wanted somewhere remote because we were bringing a telescope to do some stargazing and astronomical photography, and it was a great place for that. The kids also had a fantastic time playing outside, and we really appreciated how safe the fire circle is in the back, with a nice, high ring of cement blocks around it. We had a campfire and did hot dogs and s'mores, and we never had any issues with kids getting too close. The inside of the house was very clean (even when we had to retrieve a toy from under furniture!), and I appreciated the owners' detailed instructions for using the media equipment. Really my only complaint (and it's not one they could likely do much about) is that there was so much cow manure in the yard from calf escapees from the neighboring farms. I grew up around livestock, so I'm used to it, and I know how difficult it is to keep calves from getting out, but it was tough to keep telling the kids to watch their step. It just made it harder for everyone to relax outside. But I think it just comes with the territory -- this house is a rural experience, and that's what we were going for. And at least the kids enjoyed watching the calves meander through the yard every evening. Also, Roanoke was only a 30-40 minute drive, so if you want a nice restaurant or something to do on a rainy day, it's really not hard to find. The Virginia Museum of Transportation was really fun for our train-lovers. Thanks for a nice stay!
We spent Liberty College graduation weekend at the property. The view is absolutely incredible. The general feel is very peaceful and after fighting traffic and spending half the day at graduation is was a wonderful place to return to. The house itself was wonderful. There are 3 bedrooms, keep in mind, one looks like a child's room, so the bed looks to be a twin bed. The main bedroom has a half bath and the other larger bedroom has a queen bed and t.v. Everybody agreed the beds were very comfortable. There was a full bath, living room and kitchen/dining room. The kitchen was a nice size and we made use of it for breakfast and dinner. I did not go into the basement but my older daughter and son-in-law did and they said it was a nice size room, like a man cave. We spent a wonderful evening just sitting outside enjoying the scenery and peace and quiet. My grandson loved watching the cows on the neighboring land. The house was very welcoming and Valeria was greatly helpful in making sure we could find the house. Honestly, finding the actual road can be a bit daunting. My daughter had Waze on her phone and had trouble finding the road. It is a very small gravel road that leads you to the house. You need to be very careful and take your time going down the road. We were probably about 20 minutes from some restaurants like Applebees, stores (Wal-Mart) which was good in case you wanted to stock-up before arriving at the house. Valeria and Michael leave you instructions in the house as to what they would like you to do prior to leaving which was a great help. I also appreciated that Valeria was very accommodating on arrival time. The house was very clean and well looked after. They have a fire pit, which we did not use and a grill. There is a nice deck on the back of the house. However, be aware that if you are bringing your laptop, they do not have internet. I would definitely return to the house again and would recommend them to anybody travelling to the Roanoke area. I greatly appreciate them opening their house to us during that time.
My husband and I met some friends here since we live north and they leave south. It was the perfect meeting point for a weekend hangout. There were 4 adults and 2 children (5 and 2). We definitely fit comfortably with plenty of room. The house was clean and kitchen well stocked that after a quick trip to the grocery store, we were able to make our own meals. There is a fire ring in the back and one night we had a campfire and roasted marshmallows--an added bonus we weren't expecting! This home is definitely in a secluded area and arriving after dark with a dirt driveway that seemed a little treacherous, we were wondering if we were lost, but alas, we came upon the home and all was perfect. Despite being muddy, our cars had no issues with the driveway. We went into Roanoke one day and it was an easy 30min trip. Our communication with owners was quick and easy and they were timely in their responses. All in all, we had such a great time here, there was talk of making it an annual destination. Thank you! This location recommended to all. Owners polite and easy to work with.
We stayed here for a month when we first moved to the area. It worked out well to have a fully furnished house because all of our household goods were in storage. The neighboring cows and horses were fun for my son. We also spotted several rabbits, deer and turkeys. The only drawback was that the driveway was rough and sometimes difficult to get through when it rained or snowed heavily. I would recommend an suv or truck if you are planning a trip.
