Sweet cabin in the forest
Bark Cottage was in a great location, easily accessible from the M-190, a short stroll to the convenience store & tavern, and about 1 mile from the entrance of the Camp Nelson trail. The cabin itself was cosy - lots of linen/towels, crockery and cutlery provided, and a great spot to rest in-between walks. We especially loved the fenced in backyard for our little dog. Only drawbacks were the lukewarm water temperature and low pressure shower (although not surprising given how remote we were), plus it would have been nice for there to be a guest manual detailing nearby trails, grocery stores, etc. Overall we had a lovely time.
Thanks for your review of this lovely cabin. We have previously placed trail guides in the cabin which I have to pay for, only to have renters take them and not leave them in the cabin. They are always available at the General Store for $4.50. I am in the process of putting together notebooks that have USFS printouts of various locations in the area that hopefully don't disappear.
I'm not sure what is going on with the water pressure because when we go there and check it it seems to be a nice normal flow. But thanks for that input and we will have that checked out.
Take care and hope you can come back to us in the future.
Cute cabin/big yard with good location but needs maintenance
Cute cabin in good location. Fun to walk to the great Camp Nelson Tavern and drive to beautiful Sequoia forests for hiking nearby. Large fenced yard with fire pit and BBQ, great for dogs. Quaint mountain-themed decor inside with lots of books provided. Sheets smelled fresh but other than that the cabin had barely been cleaned prior to our arrival - hairs in bathtub, dust on every surface, large cobwebs. Shower had very poor water pressure. Pans were scratched up beyond use. I informed the owner of these maintenance issues as well as a sewage smell upstairs by voicemail and two emails but never received a response. If I had received a proactive response I would have spared them this negative review.
I haven’t replied because I’ve been gone, but I was annoyed at your email and do not care to respond to anyone in anger or frustration. We actually did clean the cabin one week prior to your arrival. My assistant was complaining about how much hair was in the bathtub and shower when she was standing in there cleaning it and I simply responded to get a wet paper towel and wipe all of the hair out of it. She must have missed something but I saw her in there wiping all the walls and cloroxing the bathtub so figured she had it covered. Large cobwebs everywhere is an exaggeration. You make it sound like you were entering a haunted mansion. We checked all the pans in the cabinet and did not see that they were scraped beyond use at all. I pulled every pot and pan out of the cupboard to see if I or the owners had missed something and neither of us saw what you claimed. The owners had come prior to us going in and were the first to view their cabin after you left. They found a big footprint in the middle of the sofa in the living room and complained that you had gone into their private cabinet and took their American Flag and hung it outside. I have very high standards for my cabins and in 8 years, this is the first bad review I have ever had on this cabin or any other cabin. This is a very popular cabin and is frequented by people from all over the world who love it. As far as me not calling you back, I did call twice and it just rang and rang with no answer. I drove over there and saw your truck in the driveway but didn’t want to bother you since I knew you had an infant and possibly nursing or catching up on much needed sleep. I didn’t want to disturb you. You never once left a message so I never knew you even tried to contact me. I also never received an email until after you left. Something you are totally clueless to is that I have worked this business by myself, and now with lots of help, for over 8 years and have been the only vacation rental company that has lasted and thrived up here. We have worked very hard to get all of our cabins that we manage to a 5-star rating and I know personally what level of detail goes into each and every cabin, especially the cleaning end. I read your email to another renter who stayed there after you and she laughed and said, “Obviously, she doesn’t get mountain living!”
What else can I say? You are not someone I would ever want to rent any of my cabins to again. Period.
Nice quaint Cabin
Peaceful are, nice cabin, great for kids and pets.
brought a friend from Indiana who had never seen the mountains...he was awed by the vistas...and the cabin...wow! warm, welcoming, had everything we needed.....beautiful views from the loft windows in the morning, nice firepit, cozy couches...what more can I say!! convenient to the Tavern, great for walks and of course, naps, thereafter....thank you
We stayed between Christmas and New Year’s with our son and daughter and my son’s girlfriend. They are in college. The goal was to have an “off the grid” rest with games and reading and laughter and hopefully snow. All of these expectations were met. The cabin was more spacious than we imagined it would be. With five adults it never felt crowded. The kitchen had all the requisite equipment and the dining table made a great game table as well. Enjoyed sitting and watching the snowfall. We even heated up the bbq, and built a snow fire in the pit. The heating was amazing ,and we were never uncomfortable, except the upstairs people who got a little warm in the loft when the hot air rose. Camp Nelson is a charming area and Bark Cabin a real gem.
Recommendations for guests: Bring all sorts of paper products and food storage wraps. We had to go to the store and buy toilet paper on day two. If coming in winter bring a small shovel and chains, or a four wheel drive vehicle. Kind of hairy on one part of the road which we nicknamed the little hill of death right before you reach the cabin. The stairs to the loft are narrow. My husband and I elected to sleep downstairs.
Memorial day get away 2015
My wife ,2 sons and their wives and a sister in law with her son, stayed for 3 days and let me tell you ,it was 5 stars. Their were deer sightings and all the fresh air one can muster !
We reside in San pedro,ca and now I want to retire at Camp Nelson. I thank the great team at VRBO that takes care of the old cabin for the style and character you gave it. We'll rent again soon. One tiny pet peeve, the chess game was missing the white queen. The cabin was already packed with linens and blankets and anything you'll need in the kitchen. Again thank you for having us.
