great work retreat

Our law firm chose Prevailing Winds for a retreat and it provided the perfect setting to conduct business and relax. Secluded, yet close enough the quaint town of Mt. Horeb and Madison for the football game. The hosts were wonderful and provided as assistance with everything we needed.

Fanastic property

This place is really something special. It's built to host a lot of people, and it does it well. The kitchen was stocked with more than we expected (pots, pans, plates, glasses, etc.), the rooms had all the furnishings, the firepits all had wood; we really didn't have to do anything additional other than arrive and have a good time. Great host too - responded within the hour to inquiries.

Amazing place!

The house was amazing! It is as described in the listing. We had a wonferful time. There is plenty of room on the driveway, if you're a big group with multiple vehicles. The location is great and very well secluded. We would love to go again!

Perfect Christmas Stay

Our families had an amazing time at this home. It was perfectly setup for 5 families with beds for 16. Fully equipped kitchen with plenty of dishes, glasses, and cookware to host our 4 night stay. The check-in process added a welcoming touch and the owner stayed in contact throughout our stay, and was 100% responsive to our needs. The fireplace was amazing and there was plenty of cut, dry wood to burn. I highly recommended this home for your next visit near Madison or New Glarus!

Above and Beyond!!

The property was gorgeous. More importantly, the host was OUTSTANDING. Steve was extremely helpful, texting me each morning asking if we needed anything. He was very helpful in providing places to eat, things to do, and provide general information regarding the weekend! We were in town for the Alabama-Wisconsin game! He made us feel very welcomed!! The place, the host and the experience were all First Class!! Thank you Steve, and thank you Prevailing Winds Lodge!! PS-Definitely try out Hi Point Steakhouse for dinner and Driftless Social for the Martinis!! Friendly staffs and great atmosphere!!

Outstanding guys trip

Prevailing Winds Lodge was perfect for our group of guys. First of all, Jen and Steve were incredibly responsive and proactive with asking if we needed anything all weekend, so thank you to them for their hospitality. We had 16 guys stay, which was just the right amount. The whole setup is perfect with the large comfortable couch, multiple large dining areas, several lightweight Adirondack chairs, etc. We made steaks on the grill and played a 8 vs. 8 softball game on the land. Check out instructions were not burdensome at all and easy to do. The lodge is clean and feels very updated. Thanks again to Jen and Steve!

Best Hosts!

This property was phenomenal. Everything was clean and easy to find. There should be no hesitation if you're thinking of renting this place. The best part though was the hosts. Steve was so communicative. While we were there we got about 4 inches of snow and I was concerned about getting down the driveway and I texted Steve. He assured me they would have someone plow, and sure enough a few hours later a plow came and cleaned up the driveway. We also were looking to order in some food and he had plenty of recommendations. All around this was a 5 star experience and I can't wait to come book another stay.

Information For Your Consideration

The interior common areas of this property are monitored by video and audio surveillance at all times, by the owners. Common areas exclude the private bedrooms in the lodge. To me this is a major issue. Had the VRBO listing included information pertaining to the surveillance equipment, I would have had no interest in this lodge. The air conditioning temperature is preset by the owner. During the day it was very cold and at night very hot. Owner provides a gas grill but does not provide propane for the grill. It is the renter's obligation to take the necessary time to secure and pay for the propane. First time on VRBO for this issue. Usually the propane comes with the provided grill. Upon arrival at the lodge, guests must make their own beds. Sheets and pillow cases are stacked at the foot of the bed. Potential renters should request a copy of the owner's list of "Rules" prior to making reservations. This is a very nice lodge and had we not experienced the above issues, we would of granted a higher rating. For what we paid to rent this lodge, these issues should not exist.

Perfect Family Vacation

We had a small family reunion at this property. It was very spacious with plenty of different areas, inside and out, to socialize. The area around the house was fun for the younger crew to explore. The hosts were very prompt in communication and with any requests we had during our stay. Would highly recommend if you're looking to spend time in a secluded setting with a large group!

Wonderful house!

We were a party of 14 and everyone slept comfortably. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook at home. The property and house were beautiful. Pictures didn't do it justice. The hosts couldn't have been more helpful from beginning to end. Highly recommend this rental.

Idyllic

This was such a great stay! The property is beautiful. You know you've arrived someplace special right away: the long driveway winds through a lovely little wood with a stream and delivers you to the front door of the lodge. The lodge is spectacular. Comfortable and spacious with a fabulous kitchen and great beds. Our hosts were so thoughtful - they checked in to make sure our visit was going well, left us a welcome basket with goodies to celebrate our daughter's graduation, and accommodated our 8:45 pm arrival time with such generosity (thank you Karo!). We enjoyed the fire pit just steps from the front door, the welcoming front porch, and particularly loved our twilight walk up to the meadow with it's sweeping views of pasture and sky. There were visits from deer who bedded down for the night in the ferns just steps away from the house and a plump woodchuck in the field along the driveway. Mourning doves and all sorts of birds provided birdsong. Coyotes sang at night. The whole weekend felt restful and magical. Highly recommend.

Perfect for our group

Everyone in our group was in awe of the beautiful lodge! We made good use of the spacious and well-equipped kitchen and enjoyed gathering around the toasty fireplace. We had one small request during our stay and it was addressed immediately. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Wonderful weekend!

I rented the lodge for my birthday weekend so I could spend time with my kids & grandkids (8 adults & 6 kids) without anyone having to host. It was my best birthday ever!!!!! Magical time!!!! Plenty of space, awesome kitchen, beautiful well appointed lodge, and lots of land to explore. Hosts were super attentive and super chill which I appreciated ( it really took the worry out of clean up & check out. ). Everyone agreed that we should make this an annual event!

Exceeded Expectations!

Large family gathering. 2 grandparents. 7 adult children/spouses and 6 grandkids all stayed. Plenty of room in the house for each family to have their space in their room and also several areas to gather for meals/hangouts. Lots of different gathering spaces in the outdoor areas. Property was very well maintained. You could tell the owner took pride in the property. Very good attention to detail - every room has it owns sink, comfortable sheets, plenty of towels, kitchen was very well stocked, lots of firewood, plenty of chairs. We enjoyed the walks around the property, especially the sunset up by the big tent. The kids had a great time and plenty to do. Owner was very receptive to our needs and checked in frequently. We were looking for a property where the kids could play, adults could relax and we would feel like we could enjoy ourselves without having to go “into town”. And this met our expectations and more!

Breathtaking Home and Location

I don’t even know where to begin. This place was AMAZING. We had 15 close family members stay with us for a baby shower. There was plenty of room for everyone and house had everything you could imagine. All of the kitchen drawers were labeled and organized nicely. There are numerous windows throughout the house that brought in natural sunlight. The porch was amazing and the fire pit is right out front. The property itself was gorgeous. I can only imagine how perfect a wedding would be there. Truly remarkable! We’re already thinking about another girls weekend getaway in the future. The hosts were accommodating and the communication was outstanding.

This property was perfect for 12 guys in their mid 30's looking for a chill, relaxing bachelor party. Great Kitchen, tons of eating space, plenty of room for sleeping, and great outdoor space. The hosts were wonderful to work with. We would highly recommend this property.

Wonderful For Family Events

A beautiful experience. Large home with unique room and board. Games and activities, including a shuffle board table. This is a perfect location for family reunions or weddings. Lots of space surrounding the property for large events. Only concern (which didn’t impact us) is a long driveway. Snowy days may cause issues for some. We look forward to booking again!

Relaxing Retreat

We rented this property for a family gathering of 8 adults and two small children. We had a wonderful time enjoying the property and the trails on the property. The house was beautiful and everything was exactly as described on the website. We will return to this property in the future.

Growing up in a major city out west (Phoenix, AZ), I never expected to find such an amazing property in such a secluded location. We stumbled on this property while living and working just north of Madison.
