I have never been to Cedar Key or anywhere like it, and I have only great things to say! I love the location, overlooking the dreamy sunsets and mangroves from your porch or private dock. The charming town--with artists, restaurants, and interesting people--is within a walk or bike's reach. Check out the bookstore--something is always happening and books are on sale for a pittance. You will live in the equivalent of a personal home--decorated tastefully and comfortably. The accommodations are spacious, and as a cook, I found everything I needed. I was surprised I could find fine wines in town. I wish I had had more time to clam, kayak the inner canals, and walk deep into the ocean (forgot my water socks). Though we did take a day cruise, which was delightful to get to know the islands. There is something about the quiet atmosphere of this "Old Florida" approach to life; you will find yourself rested and grateful for this memorable experience!
We have been to Cedar Key several times and Shore Leave is our favorite rental. Sitting on the upstairs porch looking at the Gulf through the Live Oaks is a piece of heaven. The perfect place for morning coffee and relaxing after our daily meanderings through the town. The place is comfortable with many thoughtful and artistic touches and everything was clean and ready, with many extra towels, pillows etc. Arrangements were easy - Anne was most responsive and helpful. The 2nd bedroom is in a wing, separate from the living room and from the master bedroom on the ground floor, so perfect for more than 2. The location gives you an "away from it all" feeling, while being within walking distance of all of Cedar Key..Our only quibble is that the cable television is very limited (about 15 channels) and the internet dropped regularly, which may not be a problem to you for a short stay and there is a DVD player.
We loved our stay on Cedar Key and enjoyed fishing and watching the sunsets on the private dock every night. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook and serve with. Our group of 6 had plenty of room to sit and enjoy the house. Parking was a slight issue because we had two cars and the garage was used for storage so we could not park inside. We had to park in front of the garage and on the street. We can't wait to come back and visit again,!
This was a truly wonderful place to stay! We stayed for a week at the end of March and our family of 5 loved this villa! It had everything you needed for a perfect holiday - we wanted for nothing! The best part was the easy walk to restaurants/stores while we enjoyed the sheer beauty and vibe of this lovely place. We spent time almost every day on the dock fishing and crabbing! We rented kayaks for a day and explored the barriers islands and even packed a lunch and enjoyed lunch on the white sands by ourselves on a nearby island. And, the rental company was fabulous to work with!! Great experience all around - don't hesitate to book!
If you're looking for laid back, Cedar Key is it. If you're a birder, fisherman/woman, and nature lover, this can't be beat. We could watch an osprey eat his lunch most days right outside our screened-in 2nd floor porch. We had fresh caught sea trout for dinner and watched thousands of bats come out at dusk in the nearby national wildlife refuge. Plenty of places to hike, islands to explore, even lectures at the local library and openings at the local art gallery. Several good restaurants to choose from. The condo is comfortable, fully equipped and located within easy walking distance from the quaint center of town. The property manager was very responsive and quickly took care of any questions. We stayed almost 3 weeks and never got bored, just relaxed. Shore Leave is the perfect location from which to enjoy this area.
We had a fabulous week in Cedar Key, Florida at Shore Leave. Everyone in our party (a family of 4 with 7 and 10 year old girls) and my mother, enjoyed this quaint little town in Florida.
The accomodations were clean and comfortable. In fact, the beds were probably the most comforable beds away from home we've ever had at a vacation rental! The kitchen is well appointed - we found most everything we needed to cook breakfast and lunch in house. My only suggestion would be the addition of some plastic cups to take down to the dock.
We spent the week fishing, biking, kayaking, touring historical museums and sites (Shell Mound, Cedar Key State Park's St. Clair Whitman House, and Atsena Otie Key, and Cedar Key Museum), playing board games, taking in a tour at a Southern Cross Sea Food Clam Factory (Cedar Key is the largest producer of farm raised clams in the country), going on a shelling excursion on a boat, and more! We enjoyed watching the sunset on the screened in porch where we could see some of the most beautiful reds and oranges. The fishing was successful too - we caught catfish, redfish, a sea turtle, a barracuda, and blue crab right off the dock.
We enjoyed trying out all the local restaurants for dinner, all are within walking or biking distance from the townhouse. This was a refreshingly different "beach" vacation. If you come to Cedar Key, bring water shoes, a good book, and some bug spray if you plan to visit any of the outlying islands. It also helps to do your grocery shopping on your way in to the island, as the market on the island has a limited selection of items.
Thank you for sharing your home away from home with our family!
