Das Merrydale Valley führt hinunter nach Slaithwaite (nirgendwo in der Nähe von Ripponden - was ein Google Maps Fehler ist). Es gibt 3 Unterkünfte in Merrydale Hamlet. Unser Haus (Tyas House), unser Ferienhaus (Tyas Cottage) und das Haus und die Scheune unserer Nachbarn, die an Tyas Cottage grenzt. Obwohl die Häuser gruppiert sind, haben sie alle absolute Privatsphäre. Wir sind Rentner, also sind sie meistens zu Hause.

Unsere Gäste scheinen besonders die ruhige, abgeschiedene, ländliche Lage zu genießen. Sie wandern oft durch den Wald auf der alten Packpferderoute, die zu Rose und Crown mit seinem köstlichen Bier führt (es ist nicht für die Alten und Kranken geeignet). 

Auch unsere steile, schmale, gepflasterte Zufahrtsstraße ist sehr interessant. Wir sind glücklich, die Gäste über den Berg zu bringen, wenn es auf der Straße Schnee oder Eis gibt, aber selbst große Krankenwagen können bei normalem Wetter auf und ab gehen.

Das Haus ist mit sehr speziellen antiken Möbeln eingerichtet, von denen viele aus Südafrika stammen. Dies beinhaltet ein handgeschnitztes georgianisches Mahagoni Himmelbett.
Die Gärten enthalten mehrere skulpturale Merkmale. Die Metallhülsen, die an einem Baum neben dem Mühlteich hängen, werden sehr gut benutzt.

Es gibt 3 Unterkünfte in Merrydale Hamlet. Unser Haus (Tyas House), unser Ferienhaus (Tyas Cottage) und das Haus und die Scheune unserer Nachbarn, die an Tyas Cottage grenzt. Obwohl die Häuser gruppiert sind, haben sie alle absolute Privatsphäre. Wir sind Rentner, also sind sie meistens zu Hause.

Slaithwaite ist ein lebendiges Dorf und definitiv "auf dem Vormarsch". Es ist ein schöner Spaziergang hinunter Merrydale nach Slaithwaite (ca. 25 Minuten). Als Sitz der industriellen Revolution, ist die Topographie dieses Bezirks sehr abwechslungsreich mit seinen engen kleinen Tälern zwischen weiten Heidekraut-Moor. Es gibt viele abwechslungsreiche und interessante Wanderungen in der Umgebung. Tunnel End könnte ein Ziel sein, wenn man den Kanal von Slaithwaite nach Marsden entlang laufen würde. Der Pennine Way ist ganz in der Nähe von Tyas Cottage.

Beautiful, secluded traditional Yorkshire cottage

A very beautiful and comfortable cottage hidden in a Yorkshire valley. Access could potentially be tricky in winter as it's down a very steep cobbled track but it was in a beautiful place.

Wonderful country cottage

We had a wonderful stay, the cottage is perfect in so many aspects from the location and the grounds. Inside we loved the furniture, it totally felt like home from home. Also it was very warm which is something that for me is a must. The owners were delightful. Excellent walks and pub. Great place to take a dog too. We had a wonderful time!

Wonderful stay for a short notice business trip.

Wonderful stay for a short notice business trip. I decided to stay here because I couldn't find hotels during my business trip. I'm glad I had hotel problems because I had a lovely stay at this cottage. Victoria's gardens are very beautiful and inspiring. I enjoyed the fresh flowers in the cottage during my stay. I hope to come again, next time I'll bring my family.

Beautiful home and gardens in a lovely area

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Tyas cottage. The gardens are surroundings were beautiful when we stayed in July. We all enjoyed playing in the garden, walking into the village, and exploring nearby. Our hosts were friendly and helpful and it was nice to be welcomed with a tea tray. We stayed with my parents who are in their 70s and our children aged 8 and 10. The cottage was perfect for these ages. Thanks for a lovely stay

Peace and quiet

We stayed here to attend a nearby wedding.. 4 generations together . Cottage is fantastic, equipped with everything you could possibly need . Beautiful garden where we played croquet. Ages ranged from 9-93. Such amazing hosts, listening to John’s history was fascinating. They couldn’t have been more helpful. Mum didn’t attempt the spiral staircase but was able to climb the exterior staircase to the lounge . If you’re looking for a peaceful, quiet, get away this is your place.

A Hidden gem

This wonderful property is found down by the water in a quiet, peaceful valley. Our hosts were so lovely and the cottage is a piece of living history. Place with history in the heart of England ! The most magnificent garden and endless trails right from your doorsteps.Hosts John and Victoria nice people who can answer any of your questions. We’ve been in Louvre and Versailles , Buckingham Palace and many other gardens but this little garden above them all. Sorry, Kings and Queens you’ve lost this battle! Five days at Tyas Cottage

Property was everything we wanted for 40th birthday celebration. John and Vicky were very keen that we had all the things we needed for our stay, and were able to tell us about the cottage and the local area. A lovely location even in winter - it must be even better in spring/summer. Sadly we had chosen the cottage because a hot tub was advertised as it would have helped with the children. This was not the case. After a long time on the telephone Vrbo did compensate in part for this misrepresentation.

Excellent; but not suitable for all

The property has been extensively renovated to a very high standard, and combines modern and historical features; and is well-equipped, and the bed was comfortable. Property owners are readly available, and care for the property, described its utilities, and answer questions. Access by car is challenging due to steepness and narrowness, and manageable with very slow and careful driving. There are local walks, as well as nearby villages/ towns within easy driving distance. Although described as "...Kid friendly...", I would not recommend this for young children as there is a risk of young kids damaging fine looking old furniture; and vertical metal rods that are part of the staircase have wide gaps between them that could be climbed through/ fallen through even if a gate were to be used. Internet connection was easy to connect to but had no password. Mobile phone reception was fine. We enjoyed our stay, and recommend it for most (although not suitable for all), and would be unlikely to return.

Of course we are well aware of the too wide spacings for children on the spiral staircase which is why we advertise a specially made adaption and gates which are fitted for young children. The free to roam surrounding woodlands, millpond and stream and swings make an ideal location for children.

Unwelcoming

To say that pets are welcome at this property is a misnomer, indeed to say that humans are welcome is misleading too. Upon arrival anyone over 18 is instructed to read the rule book .. what to do if you get a stain on a towel, no moving of furniture, leaving bed sheets in a certain way upon departure so they can be inspected for stains amongst some of the many rules. Lots of information about the history of the property and the importance of caring for the furniture ... My dog could only really stay in the kitchen, and was not welcome in the garden. We felt like the owners wanted our money but did not really want visitors. The cottage is in a very secluded and beautiful location so if that what you're looking for go ahead and book, otherwise read the small print. For the price I would expect newer towels, that were soft, good quality pillows and duvet, a more powerful shower ... and most of all to be made to feel welcome.

I'm so sorry she was offended by me mentioning that I had problems removing brown stains that appear on the lawn after dogs have pooed on them. We are surrounded by free-to-roam uncultivated woodland and fields which is where pets are usually taken before entering the shared garden. It was a delight to watch our previous guest's 2 golden retrievers playing on the large lawn.

Charming cottage full of character.

Tylas cottage is full of charm and character. It is very comfortable and spacious. The garden is a gem. Lovingly cultivated and quite stunning. There are some lovely walks from the cottage including one that leads to the local pub that has a breathtaking view of the valley below. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth the stay.

A fantastic cottage in a wonderful location.

We had a such a lovely stay at Tyas Cottage. The cottage is beautiful, spotlessly clean, and uniquely furnished, with everything we needed. The location itself is wonderful - waking up in bed with a view over the beautiful woodland was amazing. The hosts were very helpful - nothing was too much trouble and they made us feel very welcome. We can't recommend this cottage enough - and we hope very much to return.

I was working in Brighouse for a couple of weeks and decided to rent a cottage for the weekend so the family could visit. Could not have been happier with my choice. Beautiful setting in the middle of nowhere, walked through the woodland and backstreets to the main town with the dog and kids having an adventure as we went picking blackberries. The hosts are lovely and helped us feel very much at home and the cottage is stunning, a complete labour of love i’m sure. Would rebook again without thinking

Beautiful cottage in a picturesque location

Tyas was a beautiful, well appointment and well located cottage perfect for a nice easygoing get away. Everything you'll need is included and the lovely owners are just over the road if you need anything. I'll be coming back for sure

Kelly and her party were the perfect guests. They left the cottage beautifully clean and tidy. I hope that they, or at least some of them come back and if they do, would be happy to give them a 10% discount.

I left South Africa when I was 18. After spending 6 months in Chile, I came to London to study the piano at the Royal College of Music. I switched to singing and moved north to the opera school at the Royal Northern College of Music. During this period we found our dream property in the valley of Merrydale. We have lived here ever since. The singing petered out when we had our family and at the age of 40 I re-trained as a Landscape Architect. We are now both retired.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft

As an avid gardener, it was a relief to move from our rather windy upland home above Holmfirth to Merrydale, which is wonderfully sheltered. We were particularly attracted by its historic millpond, waterfall, bridge, wonderful birdlife and its seclusion.

Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig

There is a timeless quality about Merrydale. We are just off an ancient packhorse route. The lanes are made from stone setts and there is no tarmac to be seen. We do have electricity (and WIFI), but all the wires are buried underground. Apart from bird song and running water, it is very quiet.
However, we are within an hour's travelling time from Leeds, Manchester, Bradford, Halifax and Sheffield, so there is ample cultural stimulation available.
