FURTHER INFORMATION FOR YOUR STAY
The nearest beach (pebbles, rocks) is at San Nicola a Mare (ca. 3 km). If you prefer sandy beaches, stop by the smaller beach near Agnone and the marvelously wide sandy beaches near Acciaroli. Villa Marina is located in the district of Roviscelle. Grocery stores and quite a number of café bars are found at Montecorice 2 km off.
A worthwhile hike along the coast, with stretches along the seaside and through fragrant macchia, takes you to Punta Licosa, the Sirens’ cape. The cape and the offshore island are named for siren Leucosia, who according to legend sought death there as she seemed unable to ‘capture’ Ulysses with her song.
If you wish to explore the Cilento hinterland on foot, you might consider hiking, for example, from Pioppi to Acciaroli. Walking along traffic-free roads and country paths you meet with marvelous views. Climbing Monte Stella is also worth the effort. From its peak you can look far into the south of Campania. It is really worthwhile to take in the rural face of the Cilento!
Also on the rambling, terraced premises, but sufficiently apart from Villa Marina, lie the residence of the owners and across from it the fenced ‘residence’ of their three donkeys.
