It is one of the most accessible beach destinations in Texas, roughly 5.5 hours from Dallas and 4.5 hours from San Antonio.
The island's main strip along Padre Boulevard has a great mix of casual restaurants, seafood spots, surf shops, and beach bars all within a short drive or bike ride. Dolphin watching tours, parasailing, kayak rentals, and deep-sea fishing charters are all easy to arrange nearby.
For something quieter, Padre Island National Seashore is a short drive south and offers miles of undeveloped coastline.
