Charming Vermont Home in Johnson - Near Smugglers' Notch & Stowe
Experience Real Vermont in Johnson. Small yoga studio included.
Welcome to our beautiful Johnson home — a peaceful, light-filled retreat just one mile from downtown and within walking distance of a beloved local swimming hole. If you’re looking to experience authentic Vermont living rather than a cookie-cutter rental, you’ll feel right at home here.
The spacious primary bedroom features a king bed for a truly restful night. Two bathrooms offer both a shower and a bathtub. The home is equipped with heating and air conditioning for year-round comfort, plus practical touches like a hair dryer. It has office space with a spare monitor, and even a small yoga studio.
This is our first time offering the property as a rental, and we’ve reduced pricing accordingly. We are experienced hosts, but this home works best for independent guests who are comfortable in a true Vermont setting. This is our primary home when we're not renting. We find it to be magical and hope you do too.
What to Know Before Booking
- Winter access: 4WD or AWD with proper winter tires (all seasons may not always be enough) in winter is required. Plowing follows a rural route schedule and may not occur until after a storm has passed completely, which may be more than a day. We have always been able to come and go as we please during any storm with AWD and studded snow tires. (Without the right car, you may find yourself walking up the slippery driveway at your own risk.)
- Driveway: Some guests find the driveway steep or a bit tricky even in summer. Parking at the bottom and walking up is always an option.
- Heating: The home uses a single direct-vent heater with gravity flow to the rest of the house. It works well, but some rooms may feel cooler or draftier during deep winter.
- Propane: For stays longer than one week, guests are asked to monitor and communicate propane levels.
- Porch & snow: Guests are responsible for shoveling the porch area. The porch gate is sturdy and may require a firm push to latch; we often leave it open.
- Roof: Due to the height and Vermont weather, roof snow cannot always be cleared immediately. Please avoid standing directly under the eaves during winter.
- Dogs: Dogs use the place year round so you will likely run into dog hair. Well-behaved dogs with references are welcome. The fenced yard is helpful but not guaranteed to contain all dogs. Pets must be under control outdoors and respectful of neighboring dogs.
If you’re comfortable with a bit of rural character and appreciate fresh mountain air, quiet nights, and a truly local setting, this home offers a wonderful base for your stay in Johnson. NOTE: 2nd entrance off of porch is a room used for owner storage. No access. Owner or designee may access storage area or maintain grounds during stay. One camera monitors driveway, front porch and two front doors.
