Welcome! A Few Things to Know About Our Unique 1887 Home
Please note: this charming home is full of character—and stairs! It spans three levels, with a sunroom and a great outdoor space featuring a BBQ grill, patio furniture, and a heating lamp for cozy evenings.
Layout Overview
Entry Level: Just off the front door is the queen bedroom with an ensuite full bathroom.
Second Level (14 stairs up): This is the heart of the home, with the living room, TV area, kitchen, and a half bathroom, walk out to the sunroom and the outdoor patio area.
Third Level (15 stairs up): The primary bedroom with a California king bed, a room with two twin beds, the washer and dryer, and a split full bathroom.
The toilet and sink are located inside the primary bedroom.
The shower and second sink are located in the twin bedroom.
The Back Cottage
At the rear of the property is a small cottage with a full-time tenant. He has a private entrance from the back street and you may only see him occasionally. He’s friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about San Francisco—feel free to say hello, but please respect his privacy as this is his home.
Fun Facts & History of the House
This is a very happy home with a rich and colorful history. Over the years, it has seen many renovations, but some original quirks remain:
The original front entry was where the current window seat is. Back then, steep switchback stairs led up from the street.
The back cottage was originally a carriage house, with horses and carriages entering from what is now Ohlone Way.
During World War II, the cottage housed 9–12 soldiers for over four years. The owners at the time generously opened their home to support the war effort, housing and feeding the soldiers while raising their own family of six. A beautiful slice of San Francisco history!
Parking Info
Street parking in front of the house is limited to 2 hours between 7am–6pm, Monday through Friday. For long-term parking, you’ll need to find a spot 1–2 blocks away or use a nearby paid parking structure.
Pet Policy
We allow small dogs under 25 lbs with a $100/month pet fee.
Utilities are covered up to $150 per month, the guest is responsible for any overage. If you are conscientious of running the heat, you can keep that cost low.
Guests have access to the entire home. The tenant in the back cottage is on the property, but no spaces are shared.
A lease is required to be signed when booking.
The neighborhood is ideal for those who find enjoying the outdoors an absolute must. Glen Canyon Park occupies nearly 70 acres and offers miles of hiking trails. Walter Haas Park sits atop the hill and could definitely compete for the title of best bay views from a swing set.
Glen Park BART station 0.2 miles away. Many Bus stops and Muni close by.
Street parking, 2 Hour Limit 7am-6pm, Mon-Fri. Street Cleaning 2nd and 4th Tues of month. 11am-1pm.
What Our Guests Are Saying
Our home has hosted guests from around the world—families, friends, reunions, and getaways—and we’re so grateful for their kind words. Here’s what they’ve shared:
“Perfect location—we were just 10 minutes from Union Square, yet felt like locals with a beautiful little village just around the corner. Restaurants, shops, and even a Sunday Farmer’s Market! We felt like we were living the San Francisco life.”
“Super for our needs—two couples meeting for a reunion. Each had our own floor with bedroom and bathroom, giving us privacy, while the main floor was great for spending time together. The deck and views were a real treat.”
“Lovely walking neighborhood, very accessible to transit and downtown. Quiet, nicely furnished, with high ceilings and all the comforts of home. Priced right for a short-term stay in San Fran. We’ll be back!”
“A gem in the hills of San Francisco. I hosted family here for a week and we loved cooking meals in the well-equipped kitchen. It’s close to restaurants, museums, shopping—and with the BART station just a 3-minute walk away, we never needed a car!”
“My sisters and I stayed for a long weekend and the house was perfect: beautifully decorated, safe, quiet, and in a charming neighborhood. Public transit options were excellent, and we loved how easy it was to grab groceries or essentials nearby. Highly recommended.”
