The Nicho House: 4BD Ultra-Modern Adobe: Walk to Plaza
Experience staying in a living museum—'The Nicho House': an 80-year-old authentic adobe in Santa Fe, freshly remodeled into an ultra-contemporary masterpiece with over 50 custom niches (most in Santa Fe). 4 bedrooms (2 kings, 2 queens), 3 luxurious bathrooms (master soaking tub), kiva fireplace, custom furniture, polished cement floors, Italian granite, French white oak kitchen, Moroccan rugs. Private hot tub backyard. One block to river trail; 30-min walk to Plaza. Every corner photographic
This stunning 80-year-old adobe home sits in one of Santa Fe’s oldest neighborhoods and began life as a beloved local corner store, with living quarters that expanded as the family grew. In its recent complete remodel, we removed two load-bearing walls to create a breathtaking open-concept living space that flows seamlessly while preserving the authentic adobe charm.
The heart of the home is the expansive open living area—perfect for gathering—with gleaming white polished cement floors throughout and a traditional kiva fireplace that adds cozy Southwest warmth. The gourmet kitchen features elegant French white oak cabinetry and a dramatic Italian granite slab countertop. Handwoven Moroccan rugs add warmth and texture to the minimalist, ultra-contemporary design.
The home sleeps up to 8 guests comfortably across 4 serene bedrooms, each designed like a private gallery with signature nicho walls for art and display:
2 spacious bedrooms with king beds
2 additional bedrooms with queen beds
Nicknamed ‘The Nicho House,’ this home boasts over 50 custom-built nichos throughout — more than any other private residence in Santa Fe. These signature recessed shelves are a beloved hallmark of historic Southwest architecture, traditionally used to display santos, candles, and cherished objects. Here, they’ve been reimagined in sleek contemporary style, turning every wall into a curated gallery space for art, books, or personal touches. Each bedroom is a serene, private gallery with its own distinct cultural theme, curated to inspire and delight: one celebrates African artistry with a striking collection of sculptures; another honors American craftsmanship through beautiful ceramic pots; a third transports you to Bali with intricate masks; and the fourth pays homage to Santa Fe’s rich local heritage. These thoughtful displays, nestled in the custom nichos, make every room feel like a personal discovery.
Three full bathrooms feature luxurious Italian microcement finishes and elegant cashmere-cream granite sink boxes. The master bathroom stands out with its oversized soaking tub - perfect for unwinding after a day exploring Santa Fe.
A large, private backyard offers rare open space in the city, complete with a relaxing hot tub under the New Mexico stars. Despite its peaceful, residential feel (just one block from the Santa Fe River trail), the historic Plaza is an easy 30-minute walk away.
Experience authentic Santa Fe history reimagined as ultra-contemporary luxury—every detail custom, every corner highly photographic.
Full Access to Home except Utility Room
Guests can reach me or villa manger throughout stay

G’day! I’m an Australian who grew up in the magical, artistic world of Bali, Indonesia, before heading to Los Angeles for high school and eventually landing in Santa Fe. My life has been shaped by a blend of cultures, and that shows in every corner of this home.
I’m passionate about creating spaces that feel alive—ones that shift beautifully with the light throughout the day, yet still look stunning over time. This 80-year-old adobe, with its 50+ custom nichos turned into curated galleries, is the ultimate expression of that love. Each bedroom tells its own story through global art and objects I’ve collected from my travels: African sculptures, American ceramics, Balinese masks, and a heartfelt tribute to Santa Fe’s heritage.
Travel is my biggest joy and ongoing mission—I’m determined to visit every country on Earth! Hosting lets me share a little piece of that wanderlust with you, while giving you a peaceful, inspiring base to explore Santa Fe and beyond.
I love meeting fellow travelers, hearing your stories, and making sure your stay feels special. Whether you’re here for the art scene, the history, or just to relax under the stars in the hot tub, I’m here to help make it unforgettable.
Looking forward to welcoming you!

in love with Santa Fe the moment I saw its iconic flat roofs and the enchanting, almost magical quality of its adobe architecture. There’s something timeless and soulful about the way these earthy buildings blend into the high-desert landscape, with their soft, rounded corners and projecting wooden vigas casting beautiful shadows as the light changes throughout the day.
Adobe is one of the oldest building materials in the world—used for thousands of years—and I was drawn here to learn more about its history, craftsmanship, and incredible natural properties. This 80-year-old adobe home (originally a beloved corner store) became the perfect place to immerse myself in that legacy while reimagining it with modern luxury. The thick walls keep things cool in summer and cozy in winter, and the flat roofs honor the region’s arid climate while creating that signature Santa Fe silhouette against the big blue sky.
Living here has deepened my appreciation for spaces that feel alive and connected to their surroundings—exactly what I strive to create for every guest.

Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
In Santa Fe’s oldest neighborhoods, most historic adobe homes grew organically as families expanded—resulting in a charming but often cozy, compartmentalized layout with smaller, separate rooms. This 80-year-old adobe, originally a beloved local corner store, was no exception before its complete remodel.
What sets The Nicho House apart is the bold, rare transformation we made: we carefully removed two load-bearing adobe walls to create a breathtaking open-concept living space that flows seamlessly from kitchen to living to dining areas. To preserve the historic roof and flat adobe silhouette, we introduced exposed steel beams for modern structural support—a striking contrast that blends centuries-old tradition with contemporary design. This kind of open layout is common in brand-new builds, but achieving it in an authentic 80-year-old adobe home in one of Santa Fe’s most historic neighborhoods is exceptionally rare.
The ultra-modern updates take it even further:
• Gleaming white polished cement floors throughout the main living areas for a clean, light-filled feel that changes beautifully with the desert light.
• Over 50 custom-built nichos (more than any other private residence in Santa Fe) reimagined in sleek contemporary style, turning every wall into a curated gallery for art, sculptures, and personal touches.
The result is a one-of-a-kind stay: authentic Santa Fe adobe heritage preserved on the outside and in the soulful details, while inside it’s reimagined as ultra-contemporary luxury. Guests get the warmth and history of an 80-year-old home, plus the spacious, modern flow and high-design finishes rarely found in historic properties.
This unique blend is what makes The Nicho House stand out—history reimagined as modern magic. It’s perfect for guests who want authentic Santa Fe charm without sacrificing space, light, or contemporary luxury.
