Infinity Pool Villa, Ocean Views, 1.5 Acre Retreat with Solar Backup, AC & WIFI

Casa Vieques is a modern 2BR/2BA villa on 1.5 acres above the south coast of Vieques, with a private infinity-edge saltwater pool and the Caribbean in front of you. Two king suites, each with its own bath, plus a queen sofa bed in the living room, so the house sleeps six. Full solar with battery backup keeps the AC, WiFi, refrigerator and lights running when the island grid goes down. Under 5 minutes to Esperanza for bio bay tours and some of the best beaches in the world.

THE POOL & PATIO

Your own infinity-edge saltwater pool sits at the center of a 2,000+ sq ft patio, with the Caribbean running out past the vanishing edge. The spillover basin below the edge is tile-fronted and lit at night, which is worth walking down to see after dark.

Inside the pool there's a shaded tanning shelf with in-water loungers, about a foot deep, which is where the kids and the drinks tend to end up. The pool runs from 4 to 5 feet, so there's no deep end to keep an eye on.

Outdoor dining seats six. Two oversized loungers and a sofa sit in the shade for the middle of the afternoon. It's made for sunrise coffee and sunset drinks, and most guests end up spending the whole day out here.

THE VIEW & THE NIGHT SKY

The villa faces the legendary south side of Vieques. Open water all day, and after dark, a sky with almost no light pollution near it. Guests keep writing about night swimming under it. The coquí tree frogs start up at dusk and sing you to sleep.

POWER THAT STAYS ON

Casa Vieques runs on a full solar array with battery backup and the grid as automatic fallback. When the island loses power, and on Vieques it does, your AC, WiFi, lights and refrigerator keep running. Most guests never find out an outage happened.

WHERE EVERYONE SLEEPS

Two private king rooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom and its own air conditioning, so nobody shares and nobody negotiates the thermostat. Sheets are 100% bamboo viscose, silky and genuinely cool in Caribbean heat.

There's also a queen sofa bed in the living room, which brings the house to six. It's a gel mattress on a proper pull-out, linens and pillows are in the closet, and it opens in about a minute. The living room is open to the dining area and kitchen with no door, so think of it as the kids' bunk rather than a third bedroom. Families with kids or teenagers use it constantly and it works beautifully. Two couples traveling together will want to treat this as a two-bedroom house, with the sofa bed as a bonus rather than a third suite.

THE BATHROOMS

Two full bathrooms, one attached to each bedroom, so nobody shares and nobody waits. Both showers are open-air: walled for privacy, open to the sky above. Showering under the stars is the thing guests mention most, and on a cool rainy evening it can be brisk, so plan for that if you're visiting in winter. Towels are oversized Aegean Turkish cotton. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion and laundry detergent are all stocked.

KITCHEN, LIVING & DINING

The open living and dining area flows straight out to the patio, so the indoors and outdoors blur together. Fast WiFi throughout at 100+ Mbps, which is genuinely fast for the island, plus a dedicated workspace if you're stretching a trip into a work week.

The kitchen is equipped for real cooking, not reheating: full pots, pans and tools, a drip coffee maker and a French press, and a blender for smoothies and real piña coladas. Guests who cook a few dinners rather than eating out every night tend to be the ones who stay longest.

THE BEACH KIT

Every beach day on Vieques means hauling gear from the Jeep down a sand road, so we keep the house stocked and you don't have to rent or buy any of it. You'll find beach chairs, a large umbrella, a pop-up sun shade, a folding beach wagon for getting everything to the sand, a cooler, sand toys, and a stack of dedicated beach towels so the bathroom towels stay home.

There's also a bin of snorkel gear: masks, snorkels and fins in assorted sizes. It's a mixed collection rather than a matched set, so bring your own mask if you're particular about fit.

THE GROUNDS

1.5 acres to yourself, with room to breathe, quiet nights and Caribbean scenery in every direction. Wild horses, a Vieques trademark, wander by regularly. A big mango tree drops fresh fruit in season.

You're on a quiet residential hillside, not a resort strip and not a compound in the middle of nowhere. There are a couple of other homes on the hill, none of them on top of you. The whole place is yours while you're here: no shared walls, no common areas, no host on site.

THE BUILDING

Purpose-built in solid concrete: hurricane-rated, well-insulated and quiet. The walls stay cool through the middle of the day, so the house is comfortable without running the AC hard.

GETTING HERE & GETTING AROUND

Fly into Vieques (VQS) from San Juan or Ceiba, or take the ferry from Ceiba. A 4x4 or Jeep rental is strongly recommended, since several of the best beaches are down unpaved roads.

From the villa: under 10 minutes to Esperanza, about 5 to Sun Bay, 10 to the Mosquito Bay bio bay launch, 15 to the airport and 15 to the ferry dock. The central location means you can reach beaches on both sides of the island without spending your vacation in the car. Book bio bay tours near the new moon if you can, since the darker the night the brighter the water.

GOOD TO KNOW

The pool is unfenced and the deck sits 10 feet above grade, so children need supervision outside. Pool depth runs 4 to 5 feet.

The sofa bed is in the open living room with no door. Ideal for kids and teens; two couples should plan on the two king suites.

Both showers are open-air.

This is the tropics. The coquí frogs can be loud after dark, geckos can turn up indoors, and the occasional insect might find its way in. Horses, humminbirds, and the occasional dog may also wander by.
