As someone who spends her summers in the Hamptons, I’m particular about beach houses—andthis Ventnor City home absolutely charmed us. We stayed for a week with four families plus twodoting grandparents, and everyone had real space to breathe. There are two primary suites in afour-story home with six beautifully kept baths, so mornings were effortless and no one everqueued for a shower. Two driveways handled all our cars without a second thought.
The proximity to the ocean changed the rhythm of our days. We drifted to and from the beach aswe pleased—back for naps, a quick snack, or a fresh swimsuit—then right out again. Thegrandparents sat on the upper deck with that unmistakable look—equal partspride andcontentment—watching our family in motion. From the top deck you can even see the familydown on the sand; it’s lovely. In betweenplans, the children loved playing out on the decks,where we could watch them from inside while still enjoying the view. After day one’s inevitableavalanche of sand, we instituted a cheerful rule: outdoor shower first. The kids made a ritual ofit, and the house stayed spotless.

What truly surprised me was how gracious the community felt. The neighborhood has that “oldfriends” ease—quiet, established, and wonderfully welcoming. On the boardwalk, people wereunfailingly kind to the children; smiles and compliments were the default. It was lively yetrespectful, and we felt impeccably safe the entire time. An open lot next door meant no housepressed up against us, which translated to rare privacy at the shore and blissfully quiet evenings.
Mornings became our favorite routine. We’d wander up Atlantic Avenue to sample a new caféeach day—there are so many stylish little spots within a short walk. Bruno ’s market across thestreet treated the children like family, and Queen Bee on the boardwalkbecame our regularbrunch stop before the beach. After the beach, the kids begged for the “castle” playground a fewblocks away; they bought lemonade from local children while the dads rotated betweenpickleball and a quick game of volleyball.
Evenings were easy and elegant. Some nights we lingered on the top deck under the moonlightwhile the men enjoyed a cigar; other nights we dressed up and strolled over to Ocean Resort toadmire theambiance and have a cocktail.
Practical touches sealed it—wifismarthomelights-2 primaries-set itand forget itbeach gearinto the washer/dryer and ready by dinnertime; quick, walkable access to everything; ice creamon nearly every corner; consistently excellent restaurants; and that comforting sense that thepeople around you are established, thoughtful, and well-mannered. My husband joked that Islipped into “Beverly Hills housewife mode,” but truly, it felt like an effortless week of goodtaste and easy living.
