We've been vacationing in the North Georgia for years and have experienced many beautiful places there, but none of them can compare to the lovely cabin at Dennis Mill!
From the moment we entered the charming cabin, we felt like we were at home(don't we wish!) and were charmed by this magical place!
Even on the heels of a 2 month drought, Rocky Creek could still be heard gurgling from the peaceful screened porch.
Wonderful hosts that have thought of every comfort and detail! We were even greeted by fresh cut flowers!!
Thanks for a wonderful stay! We can't wait to return!!
We really enjoyed the cabin and the area. What a perfect location. Even though it was smoky from the North Georgia fires, the views were excellent. I brought my three children and a couple of their friends for two nights and we all had a blast. The cabin was really clean and was stocked with all the necessities. The décor was really charming and warm. The kids fished most of the day and there were countless areas to explore. We all agreed that we need to come back and stay a lot longer next time. Thanks for sharing your cabin and land!
This is not your typical cabin rental. The cabin is surrounded by a beautiful environment and has enough creature comforts that you're not sacrificing because you're in the wild. It seems the owners have thought of everything, including the layout and design of the cabin to maximize exposure to the streams. The water was very low when we were there (several weeks with no rain), but it did not seem to take anything away from the experience of being there in that rare moment of time. Different setting from any cabin I've ever rented. Just far enough away from it all, but a fairly big grocery store is still about 5 miles away in case you forgot something. For those interested how resourceful people were when the gristmill was operating (maybe a century ago?), I suggest you check out how the old timers managed to channel the water from the creek to the gristmill (no longer functions) and see the depth they dug through rocks to get it there. Pretty impressive considering they had no heavy equipment to dig that long and deep channel. Even if you don't see that, you'll love the beauty of God's creation that surrounds this place. Sweet spot!
Ok, look you know the routine with renting online. I mean you read the other reviews and hope and pray that you have done your research and don't rent a "stinker". Well rest assured with Dennis Mill you can relax knowing you did the right thing. Breathe deep, just relax on this spacious property with super easy access to hiking (our favorite), thousands of acres of National Forests lakes and waterfall trails, fishing, boating all within minutes of the cabin.
Mr. Rick built these cabins and did a fine job. The location of the cabin is so fantastic. The creek can be seen from all three sides of the cabin through big windows. Standing in the living area by the woodstove gives the impression you are outside. Beds are big and comfy. Bedrooms have plenty of space, not cramped. Great windows upstairs open to the sound of the creek waters babbling. (I personally believe that doctors could stop prescribing sleep aids if everyone had a creek outside their window, but I digress).
The character of the cabin and the coziness of the furnishings plus the property and where it's located is just prime for losing yourself for awhile... That crap back home and at the office will be the furthest thing from your mind.
Angie and Rick are super host. After a minute or so chat with Rick about where to go and see, Angie emailed me with great local hints about trips away from the cabin during the day. Can't beat local knowledge.
We had an unbelievable time, set our own schedule or lack there of, hard to describe how peaceful this little slice of heaven is. We will be back, we might even bring some family members that we like, ha.
These are a few things you need to know. They were a negative briefly... Then turned into humor and then a positive!
1. The washing machine takes awhile, dryer takes no time.
2. The Internet/TV connection is almost always out. You must understand you are surrounded by hills on all but one side, read "valley". It's a satellite provided link an modem has signal only a few times a day. Anyone's guess when the sat flys by. 4 lights solid on modem and you are gold. Any other combo of lights, nah.
Remedy for no internet found!!! GO OUTSIDE, simple. Lots of books to read, some are very interesting including history of area. Some DVDs to watch as well. Phone signal good.
Thanks to the Hix for sharing this place with us.
My family and I love going to this cabin! So perfectly peaceful! We love the creek, cave, screened in porch, and the decor. We highly recommend it! And the owners are lovely people!
We love the Dennis Mill and we will be coming back!! It's a peaceful getaway with town close enough to get groceries or whatever else you may need. The cabin was perfect with all the amenities you could possibly need. Great for kids! There were toys for our toddler and he LOVED the creek! Great sitting area outside for s'mores and a fire. Dining table on screened in porch perfect for dinner. We love this place!
