Roamed the Dallas streets while owner refund

I booked this property several months in advance for a family vacation. I messaged the owner letting them know we had a late flight and would not be at the apartment until 11:30 p.m. We arrived to the apartment, and someone was parked in our spot- huge red flag. Called the owner several times. When she decided to answer, she told us to park in the next spot and not worry about being towed since she owns the building. We get to the apartment door, and to our disbelief, it was occupied by other guests!! We called the owner back at least 20 times, and she ghosted us. The owners left our family in a very dangerous situation. We had nowhere to go and were roaming the streets at midnight frantically calling hotels to find somewhere to stay on a holiday weekend. Thankfully we found a hotel that had one room left at 1:00 a.m. As a walk in, we spent an extra $400 to secure the room for the weekend. The owner got around to calling me back around noon the next day. Said we could stay at the apartment and would not charge us. This was an empty offer as our hotel's checkout time was 10:00 a.m. We had already paid for another night. Super shady. I would avoid at all costs. FYI.. VRBO does not have a customer service line to help you in situations like this. Knox Henderson owners, if you read this review, feel free to send me a check for the extra $400.00 I had to spend as a walk-in on a holiday weekend.

Old and Musty

Great location. Very old unit that has not been maintained very well. Like all older buildings it had a strong musty odor that wasn't helped by old, cloth sectional that has spent the last 15 years absorbing the odor. All fabric furniture needs to be replaced and a commercial grade air purifier needs to be installed. A little updating and this could be a great place, outstanding location.

Great Stay

Great Location. Comfortable apartment. Feel free to go grocery shopping because everything you'll need to cook is in the kitchen. Close to many nice Dallas establishments. I would recommend renting a car. Not entirely necessary to get around but it does make things a lot easier.

It is an old apartment , it is clean and safe. Miss Joan is nice lady and offered help when AC unite not working, she brought a heater. I wish it can make clear indication on the information list that how many room, how many beds, and what kind beds. It indicates it can sleep for 4 people, I thought there will be at least 2 beds there, but when we arrive, there is only bed, 2 sofa (it is not sofa bed) I would not book it if I know that.

Great stay

Clean and convenient. The photos are accurate as the apartment is just as portrayed. Roomy and the location is ideal. Can walk to shops, restaurants, etc. Didn't need a car although there is a parking space. The apt is on the 2nd floor so if someone has mobility issues, it's a caution. The stairs at the back of the building are a bit easier. Jerry was very responsive and returned calls immediately. The stovetop is a bit dated but its functional. Would happily stay here again.

Home away from Home

I and my wife from India visited Dallas to be with my son and daughter both studying in the US and booked this place for a month mid May - mid June 2018. The whole process of booking on VRBO and the communication we had with both Joan and Jerry were both seamless and prompt. The property is clean, quiet and located in a very central upmarket neighbourhood and the description of the property was accurate. We enjoyed our stay and would like to thank Jerry very specially for making our stay comfortable. We would also like to mention a word of appreciation to Ralph who takes care of the maintenance and Daniella who looks after housekeeping. Both of them made sure that our stay was comfortable and special. The purpose of our visit was for a family get together and indeed this place served the purpose fully and we returned back with fond memories We would surely stay at this place should we be visiting Dallas again.

A truly enjoyable "Home Away" experience at this property

We would say it's all about the location, which of itself is great for access to local places like neighborhood restaurants, grocery (Trader Joe's just 2 blocks away), and the Katy trail for jogging or walking, getting to downtown or Deep Ellum 10 minutes max, so very central. Now about the apartment - it was much better for having family guests who live in Dallas visit with us and be able to cook and have visiting space around the kitchen and living area just like a home setting. The kitchen was stocked with all the cooking essentials - pots, skillets, utensils, flatware and plate, glasses, coffee mugs.etc., plus the spices, salts, peppers, sweetener choices were all available pretty much like home stuff, and not all in little disposable pouches like in a hotel room. All the comforts are there as expected, and the privacy is a huge plus if you're not a fan of service carts tracking the hall. Obviously, don't expect room service - this is all DIY, but if you have some good take-out, this is the spot. Property owners are accessible with a call, as we needed the option to stay an extra day on the fly which was not a problem. One bonus to mention: if you like sleeping with a fan on at night, there's one in the hallway closet so you don't need to bring that one from home.

Perfect space during difficult time

My husband recently had surgery at Baylor University Medical Center. He had to stay in the hospital for 6 days and we have three kids. I don't love staying in hotels with three small kids, so I always use HomeAway when we travel so we have our own space and a full kitchen. This apartment, though one bedroom, was truly the perfect space for us and the location was just right, less than 10 minutes from the hospital. The bedroom and living room are very spacious and we had family coming and going throughout the week and there was plenty of room. Jerry and Joan were responsive and very helpful. The small apartment complex was quiet and clean and the area was great. Walking distance to parks and restaurants. We hope not to have to return for medical reasons, but if we do, we will definitely try to stay here again.

Cozy apartment in a great location!

We were in town for 4 nights for the Cotton Bowl Classic and chose to stay in this charming area of town. We flew in/out of Love Field, just a 10 minute drive from this apartment so it was very convenient. Getting to AT&T stadium was a quick hop onto I-30 and just a 30-minute drive. The building is an older brick style, but is in good repair and there is parking for each apartment on site. The unit and furnishings were as pictured in the listing. The apartment was clean and tidy and we had what we needed in the way of supplies in the kitchen and bathroom. Although there were cars in the parking lot that led us to believe most apartments were occupied, it was a very quiet property. Within a few blocks, safe to walk, we found a brand new Trader Joe's as well as several restaurants and shops. A mile in the opposite direction is the West Village area that houses many shops and restaurants. The Katy Trail is a half dozen blocks behind the property where you can bike, walk, hike and find additional watering holes. The owners were very quick to reply to our questions with an email or a phone call. Whether in town for business or pleasure this apartment is a comfortable place to stay in a charming and convenient location.

Enjoyed our Thanksgiving weekend in this roomy ,clean apartment in a nice neighborhood.

The apartment was larger than it appears in the pictures it was comfortable and very clean, it has its own parking space in the back. It is within walking distance of stores, restaurants and pubs. We felt safe walking in the neighborhood even at night. We enjoyed our stay and will consider staying again. The sofa is not a sleeper but can accomodate someone to sleep on it but I would not recommend it be an adult. There was also not a hair dryer, so make sure to bring one if needed. We were late sleepers and were awakened by lawn work and another morning by the maintance man working next door. I am sure these are not regular so don't let them keep you from this great vacation rental. It is about 25 to 30 min to AT&T stadium, not bad. Thank you and hope to stay here again in the future.

Great Location

Property was located away from traffic noise and has a carport. It is within a few blocks to excellent dining. Trader Joe's is just a few blocks away. There is a great walk, run, bike path very close by.

This is very much a family-run business my son is actively involved in running our 11 wonderful apartments Hello, I am Joan. I was born in Czechoslovakia and I have lived in Czechoslovakia, Austria, Canada and now Dallas, TX. I have traveled extensively in Europe, Canada, Costa Rica and the United States. My favorite places are Tuscany, Italy; Prague, Czech Republic; Toronto, Canada; San Jose, Costa Rica; and southern California, plus Dallas. I speak fluent Czech, understand most Slavic languages, and even speak a little German. I enjoy life, exercise, the coasts and the beach, good dining, theater, music and travel. I love my work managing my apartments and caring for my tenants and guests.

Fabulous neighborhood that's great now and getting better by the day. There are lots to do in the area; there are plenty of good restaurants and bars within walking distance. Trader Joe's supermarket less than two blocks away. Also, there are many areas to go for a walk, a run or a bike ride if you wish.

The apartment is located in the heart of the trendy Knox District area on the cusp of Highland Park. There is a lot to do within safe walking distance. This is a great area in which to be hungry. GREAT NEWS! Just opened is Trader Joe’s just over 2 blocks away. At your fingertips is a wide selection of fresh foods and groceries along with great prepared meals. If you don’t feel like cooking, there are about 30 restaurants, bistros, bars and other entertainment options within easy walking distance. You will discover a wide variety of food choices and restaurant styles to pick from. Some restaurants are cozy and intimate, some with outside seating and other places that help to bring the night life alive. It is too hard to describe how vibrant and alive this community is; along with being known to be one of the friendliest pedestrian areas in Dallas. We can’t forget to mention the plethora of shops, boutiques and stores including a large Apple Computer Store, Crate and Barrel, Z Gallery and other exclusive shops for that special something to wear, and more.

After enjoying some guilty pleasures there is the Katy Trail, the backbone of our community. Only three blocks away, it is a 3 1/2 mile long walking, jogging and biking trail that goes from SMU to Downtown Dallas. The Katy Trail is nicely paved and landscaped; it gently rolls through the beautiful communities of Uptown Dallas. Hundreds of people take advantage of the Katy Trail every day. Our guests have commented “we didn’t need our car” or “we’re glad we brought our bikes”.

For those guests wishing to go further afield, our apartments are centrally located in the trendy Knox District of Dallas, adjacent to Highland Park, one of Dallas' premier neighborhoods. With easy access to the Central Expressway; it is only 7 minutes to downtown Dallas, 15 minutes to North Dallas, and downtown Plano.
