We stayed at Bob's house here on Guanaja Jan.1-Mar.31, 2017. We love the privacy of this big house on the hill, 50 feet up from the ocean. The view is breath-taking from the screened in porch all across the front of the house. There is also a screened in porch to the back, so you can have open shutters and let the ocean breeze blow through the big, open house. The huge yard is just beautiful with all the fruit trees, palms, and hibiscus bushes lining the steps coming up.
The beach here is fabulous, and we enjoyed walking it each day, sometimes way to Michael's Rock, where the snorkeling is wonderful, with all the coral and sea fans, along with all the different fish.
My husband is an avid fisherman, and he had good luck fly fishing from docks and shore, wading out waist high, catching bone fish, grunt, snapper, jack. We ate fresh fish most days. With the full kitchen we cooked a lot of our meals. The grocery store is just a bit over half a mile walk, and they have what you need.
We loved eating at Crazy Fish and Barnacle as well. If you take a half hour boat ride you will eat fabulous food at Sea View, at the cay, Mi Casa Too, and Graham's Resort as well.
We climbed to the big waterfalls, the damned waterfalls,(where the locals get their water), and the small waterfalls by The Island House down the beach, climbed to a big cave, and went out on the ocean fishing, and sight seeing.
It has been a wonderful three months on this friendly island and we can't wait to come back again next year!!
First, my review is not of the property, but the owner. I had inquired of availability, so when we decided to stay at a resort instead, I wrote Bob to let him know. He extended his offer for information, and corresponded with me several times knowing he had nothing to gain from the effort. His advise was helpful in our trip plans and we appreciate learning about the island from a resident's perspective.
We spent a week in this home on Guanaja. It was everything that the add said. Very relaxing. The house was nicely furnished, and clean. We hired a lady to cook Honduran meals for us, and they were delicious. We also hired a man to take us to Michael's rock to snorkel and on a tour of other areas of the island. snorkeling around the dock isn't very good, but you can swim to the reef, although its quite a swim, and could be a little dangerous because of passing boats. The people were very friendly. It is approx. 50 steps up to the house from the beach, so if you have limitations it could be difficult.
We stayed at this house for one full month. As soon as we stepped foot into this beautiful 1600 square foot home we were struck by all the beautiful Honduran Wood everywhere. The owner had arranged for my daughter and I to have matching guitars so we wouldn't have to go for a month without playing. This made us very happy. Many of the islanders were happy as well to hear live music being played in their little town of Mangrove Bite. The house has two screened in porches. The North porch looks out over the Caribbean and you can rock in your hammock while listening to the surf and the sounds of the jungle. This home is on about 2 acres with plenty of bananas, pineapple, coco nuts, mangoes and giant bread fruit. What every else you might need is just within a short walking distance to Mangrove Bite's several stores. The house has a big bathroom with a glassed in shower, giant bath tub for two and two sinks, a regular toilet and a bidet. The kitchen was my favorite because it was all open so I could entertain my guests and cook at the same time. The whole house is fully furnished with overstuffed couches in the living room with the Caribbean Life Style in mind. The master bedroom has two queen sized beds and one giant king sized bed. This room is air conditioned and completely sealed from the rest of the house so it stays nice and cool. Also provided is a Satellite dish TV plus wi-fi for the internet. Guanaja is more beautiful than anywhere I've ever been. The diving was amazing and getting around the Island was fun and adventurous. We hiked up to waterfalls and explored caves and hiked trails. The local people there in Mangrove Bite were lots of fun, very friendly and spoke English well. Everything was perfect and I can't wait to go back.
