Information for guest about Douglas lake Set against the backdrop of the foothills of the Smoky Mountain, Douglas Lake is a popular recreation for all types of vacationers. The dam that controls the reservoir was built in 1942, stretches 202 feet high and 1,705 feet across the French Broad River. Douglas Lake provides 513 miles of shoreline and 28,420 acres of water surface for recreation activities. In a year with normal rainfall, the water level in Douglas Reservoir varies about 44 feet from summer to winter. Although most of the shoreline along the 43 mile-long lake is private. Amenities include restrooms with showers, picnic areas with tables, a boat ramp and a swimming beach. Birdwatching: From late July to early October, birdwatchers will witness the fall migration of shore birds, wading birds, and other waterfowl that flock to Douglas Lake. The birds rest and feed on the muddy shoreline and in areas of shallow water exposed as the level of the reservoir is lowered to winter flood control levels. Fishing: Nourished by three rivers, Douglas Lake has become the premier crappie lake in East Tennessee. Other good fishing includes: white bass, sauger, black crappie, striped bass, spotted bass, walleye, blue cat, flat head catfish, channel catfish, red horse, red breast sunfish and bluegill. Fishing is a year round sport at Douglas although spring and fall are the preferred seasons. From November to May, the wide shallow embayment, fertile creek hollows and stump beds, attract the crappie in huge numbers during the spring spawning season making crappie fishing excellent! Spring is the best time for bass fishing but you'll find there's good stock year-round. Trails: If you want to add a hiking adventure to your time at the lake, the trailhead to the Trotter Bluff Small Wild Area (trail map) is adjacent to the Douglas Dam Headwater Campground. Hike the almost 2 miles of trail that winds through 30 acres of hardwood forest and limestone sinkholes to an overlook of the lake's tailwaters. Springtime hikes are enhanced with colorful wildflowers that dot the landscape. The Dandridge Partnership Trail is a 1.2 mile out-and back that winds through wooded terrain. Douglas Lake is one of the cleanest lakes in Tennessee, and the only lake convenient to Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Douglas Lake attracts nearly 2 million visitors each year. It's an anglers paradise and is the site for several bass fishing tournaments each year, including the Tennessee B.A.S.S. State Tournament. The resort is convenient to all this area has to offer: water parks, nascar rides, mini and regular golf, horseback riding, hay rides, zip lines, craft and antique shops, outlet malls, not to mention Dollywood, Dixie Stampede, the Titanic Museum, etc. There are restaurants to suit every taste within minutes of the cabin. Don't forget beautiful Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains where you're sure to see deer, wild turkey, and if you're lucky, a bear or two. *****Douglas Lake is a seasonal lake regulated by the TVA. There will always be water in the main channel however, during certain times of the year there will not be a lot of water at our shoreline. The TVA starts to fill the lake over Memorial Day and it is usually full by the end of May.. The TVA then starts to empty the lake after Labor Day and by the end of September, there is not a lot of water at our shoreline but there is still water in the main channel and you can drop your boat at one of the marinas on the main channel.

Dirty Hot Tub Gave Us All Folliculitis

  • 1 von 5

Upon arrival, there was a clear plastic cup in the hot tub, and the water was cloudy and had a slight odor. Over time, the odor seemed to get worse and we began noticing very painful bumps all over our bodies. Obviously at this point we could no longer safely use the hot tub (the whole reason we booked this cabin) 3 days into our 6 day stay. We tried calling the manager, but she did not take our concerns seriously, saying she “can’t do anything without a doctors note”. So several of us are planning to visit clinics soon and one of us which has already was diagnosed with Hot Tub Folliculitis.

Not only did the hot tub give us bacterial infections, but several of the appliances didn’t work well at all, including the dishwater that didn’t wash dishes and the microwave that could barely handle popcorn. Not to mention the grill which had only one functional burner (making cooking for 8 people a challenge). Plus, the sheets on one of the beds had cigarette burns. Also, be warned that this cabin doesn’t have WiFi, which we found odd in 2018, but in fairness they do not advertise otherwise.

Really hoping we can get a full refund for the cabin, as we are not fond of spending thousands on lodging, gas, food, and now medical bills ($160 doctor’s visit plus more for antibiotics, just for one of us). If you think having to clean dishes by hand and using up all of your cellular data is worth the medical bills, then this is the place for you!

Vermieter-Kommentar: First of all the hot tub was not cloudy or have a slight odor. You called us the day you arrived and said while you all were in the hot tub and after an hour or so that the hot tub lost power. We sent someone there to look at the hot tub within an hour and i was there when they showed up to look at the hot tub, as soon as i came around the corner there were tons of water all over the deck and the water was already below the jets and there was plastic cups in the hot tub that had alcohol in then and beer bottles and the lid was not over the hot tub. you and your guests got water in the circuit board and shorted the board out. I did explain that to you and also advised to keep the lid on hot tub when not in use because there are wild animals, i was down there the next day to make sure everything was still good on the hot tub and it was working correctly after it was fixed the previous night, the lid was off the hot tub. We do have well water and sometimes it does have more calcium and lime and iron in the water at times and iron will discolor the water and it can have a smell, but the water did not have a smell or discolor on monday. When you get 8 people in the hot tub then the water will not stay as clean if there was 2-4 people. I also want to say that that i did get an email from you about one of the guests going to the dr, IN NO WORDS did it say that she got Folliculitis from hot tub, that statement you made is wrong and not truthful, and I can't post the report due to privacy concerns for your guests. You called us on Wednesday and said that the water was looking dirty, that was 4 days into your stay. We have in our rental agreement that we do not go out during your stay and change water in hot tub. we will check the grill, There are no burns on sheets!!!! some small microwaves vary on times for popcorn, i think there are directions on popcorn boxes that explains that. IF I WOULD HAD BEEN SO UNHAPPY I WOULD NOT HAD WAITED UNTIL THE EVENING YOU CHECKOUT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THESE ISSUES. I also want to discuss once again that the water was tested and you were advised of the results and then you wrote the review and then added other things that was never discussed with this and when i told you no refund because the water test was normal. maybe next time you stay in a cabin make sure they have wi-fi before you reserve it. We tend to ask our guests to come back but in this situation we will not. My previous reviews on here speak volumes. u left cabin nasty

Great location, secluded and peaceful

  • 3 von 5

My family and I had a really nice time at the cabin this past weekend, didn't get to spend much time at the cabin but it was peaceful and relaxing while we were there, no Wi-Fi (blessing for me, not so much for the kids) very clean and tidy inside and out. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a great place to stay that's away from the noise of the city!
